Cox's Bazar (Bengali: কক্সবাজার) is a city, fishing port, tourism centre, and district headquarters in Southeastern Bangladesh. It is located 150 km (93 mi) south of the city of Chittagong.
The city covers an area of 23.4 km2 (9.0 sq mi) with 58 mahallas and 27 wards and as of 2011 had a population of 223,522. Cox's Bazar is connected by road and air with Dhaka & Chittagong. The rail line connection is also under construction and expected to be completed by this year.
The modern Cox's Bazar derives its name from Captain Hiram Cox, an officer of the British East India Company, a Superintendent of Palongkee ( old name of Cox’s bazar) outpost. It is one of Bangladesh's main tourist spots. The city has the longest uninterrupted natural beach in the world. There are a lot of modern hotels & restaurants for the tourists including a few five star hotels.
Cox’s Bazar is a town on the southeast coast of Bangladesh. It’s known for its very long, sandy beachfront, stretching from Sea Beach in the north to Kolatoli Beach in the south. Aggameda Khyang monastery is home to bronze statues and centuries-old Buddhist manuscripts. South of town, the tropical rainforest of Himchari National Park has waterfalls and many birds. North, sea turtles breed on nearby Sonadia Island.
We visited Cox’s bazar as tourists and stayed at Hotel Sayeman, which is situated at the bank of the sea coast. We had a great view of the sea beach directly from the balcony of Hotel Sayeman. Their premiere suit was very nice to live in and compared to a five star hotel. Their complimentary breakfast was huge & delicious.
