    ABOUT Jennifer "Jensuya" Carpenter-Peak
Dancer JENSUYA began her training in 1973 when most of her childhood was spent overseas immersed in other cultures. In 2002 she began belly dancing with classes, workshops, self-guided study, and more travel to the Middle East. Two years later, she and her husband, musician Robert Peak, founded their music and dance ensemble, TarabRaqs. Since then, Jensuya has produced and performed in hundreds of live music and belly dance shows. With honors bestowed by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, the American Turkish Association, and a feature profile on the U.S. Government-funded Alhurra TV network broadcasting to over 24 million viewers in the Middle East, Ms. Carpenter-Peak is on the forefront of Middle Eastern dance in America.

One of the most difficult things to do is CRITIQUE OURSELVES because it's hard to dissociate and see our performances as others see them and it's seriously humbling (or humiliating!!) But if you can force yourself to do it, you WILL improve your dancing. In this video, I give you some of my thoughts on a practice session with Drummer Bob. That was really good. I wish there some kind of list "vocabulary", like a list of moves we can do for each rhythm! To have these in our mind.

Like the standard names in ballet, right? Yes, that would make it so much easier! That being said, many belly dancers have their own style and even their own concepts on each move. To learn our nomenclature, check out the videos in our Shorts playlist and in this playlist: bit.ly/JBDHowToBDPlaylist ❤
