One of the reasons you don't notice a huge difference in the stances is because the difficulty level is a little lower. When it's on higher, the enemies are much tougher to fight and the stagger attacks are really useful to break their stances and get good damage through! You're doing great now, so dont stress it too much. The game skills you up nice and slow, so by the end, you legit feel like a freakin' Samurai!!

The shakuhachi flute can change the weather depending on the song. If its raining, play the summer song. Want more fog for stealth, play the Fog song. Etc.
Don't worry about making mistakes, to be honest that's when your commentary is the best. I'm here because you're entertaining and make me laugh and that's more important than flawless game play.
The thing that made me enjoy this game, that "one thing" that clicked for me was the Flute Playing. Once i unlocked the second song, i stopped rushing through the roads, a literal wandering samurai, playing flute going wherever it took me. I know , its different when such a long open world game needs to be on a playthrough channel, but give yourself some moments to just walk and enjoy the view!
I love the combat in this game. You CAN just button mash, at the lower difficulties anyway, but once you get good enough, you'll never feel like you need to grind. Just look at an encampment, and if they don't have hostages, you can basically walk in through the front door like buffy badass, knowing they don't stand a chance.
There is much more than just the heavy attack in regards to the stances. There are different dodges, parries, and quick attacks associated with them as well.
Loving your playthrough... heads up golden birds are easily missed. Especially when lost in awe and admiring the lush lively majestic landscapes of this world. 18:33 - 18:44 at the end you can hear the distinct sound the golden birds make, so u know when u hear it one is near by.
I wish there was a quick change button for armors because I usually would switch to travelers attire while exploring or traveling from place to place and then switch to a more protective armor when I’d be entering combat. It got a little annoying having to open up the menu and manually change it. Btw, if you swipe down on the touch pad, you bow to people and if you swipe right after killing a foe, Jin flicks their blood of his Katana before sheathing it…which is really cool.

Another tip for when you get other outfits. Each outfit has its own set of perks. The traveler outfit for example is good for finding artifacts and other collectibles but it doesn't serve you well in combat. There are other outfits suited to combat (more health/more damage/more protection etc). Like your stances, you should get used to changing your outfit often. At least until you max out all the stats of your weapons and outfits and you have all the skill in every category. Once this happens you can do and wear what you want because at this point Jin's a BEAST lol.

YEA! You got the stances down. You're right about the Square Button basic attack just being a quick attack. The heavy attack is good for 2 things. When you have the right stances selected for the right enemy then that enemy is much weaker to heavy attacks, but not only that, they're weaker to it in 2 different ways. I'll explain. When you attack an enemy with the heavy attack (appropriate stance as well) their stagger bar shatters much faster, leaving them open to attacks. No stagger bar means they can't block you, and you can kill them with basic attacks, but here is the 2nd thing the enemy is weak to, heavy attacks! When you attack an enemy with your heavy attack you take away so much more health than with a basic attack. There is definitely a learning to it but you've been doing great already, you're gonna be such a fluid fighter way way way before you're even done with the game and it's DLC I also want to say that you can change the settings to make it more realistic. 1 sword strike will kill your enemies, but 1 sword strike can also kill you. That's how I played it and it took so many hours of failing and trying again and learning, and it was so worth it. It was my favorite way to play

Hi Miranda, a little thing that might put a smile on your face. One of the many easter eggs you'll find (or not) in the game is the bowing. Look for small signs scattered across the environment depicting a silhouette of a person bowing. If you bow facing these signs something cool will happen. It also works if you bow at certain graves. See if you can find them all!

When wearing traveller's attire and searching for objects you may have noticed a green firefly darting around. These will also guide you to the object.
If you swipe down on the touch pad Jin will bow. Try doing that on dead bodies you find or signs that tell you to bow. If you swipe right on the touch pad Jin will wipe the blood of his sword. It's cool detail.
I'm the same way with side quests, I gotta do them all! This game has fantastic side quests, they add so much to the world and characters. Jin isn't just trying to save his uncle, he is also trying to save his home. Helping out every person who asks for his help completely makes sense for his character imo
Yes Miranda this game will satisfy your desire for side missions. I was the same way when I first played this game. I couldn't stop doing them all cause they were so good and fun and so rewarding. Hey Miranda. Here's a spoiler free tip: look for the charm of Inari. Basically increases the supplies, bamboo, yew and predator hides you loot. Very handy for upgrading armor, bows and swords :) have fun!
Stances just let you kill an enemy quicker and safer. Eg: to kill a a shield enemy with stone stance you have to parry or dodge an attack and then hit. If you use the water stance you can hit directly breaking his defense. Heavy attacks are just the "break-defense" technique
Speak for yourself, we definitely did not all go through this. The combat is very intuitive if you actually comprehend what it is that you read in the style descriptions. The difficulty should come in dealing with the fast pace and fairly high damage output of enemies, rather than not understanding Jin's abilities, which are largely quite simple.
19:50 For the “Stone” stance stab, you only need to hold the heavy attack long enough for the elbow to start going back. Then you can release to thrust earlier. Experience with practicing that technique will help with understanding just how long the hold needs to be. That said, I tend to favor the “Water” stance flurry strikes and invest in that line as soon as I unlock the stance. That is my go-to default in Lethal difficulty outside of duels.
Love Lady Masako. She's such a real character. Nothing left to lose, only one thing for her to do: Vengeance. She's one of my favorite characters. Meanwhile I just wanted to kick Ishikawa in the nuts every time he opened his pride-filled mouth. 🤣
It's nice to see you getting the hang of combat and switching stances on the fly. Before too long you won't even need to think about which stance to use, you'll just do it instinctively. Each outfit has perks which you can upgrade. Don't worry about finding enough supplies for your upgrades. As long as you look in every nook and cranny in every building or tent, you will have enough to do all upgrades that are in the game. By about half way through the story I tend to settle between only three outfits for the rest of the game, and that's it. One of them is the travellers attire and the other two I'm not going to tell you, as it will spoil some of the story for you. Let's just say that my favourite is one of the best looking and OP in the game. Waiting in anticipation for the next episode.
You know it's an unblockable attack when the indicator above an enemy's head is red. When you purchase an ability that allows you to block an unblockable attack, the indicator changes to show that you can now block it.

The Key to defeating enemys in this game is 1:multiple Heavy (Triangle) Attacks to stagger and break the guard of an enemy which is then open for deadly strikes. And when in water stance you break the guard against swordsmen faster and the same goes for water stance and shield men and the other stances. But when using the water stance you apply less stagger damage to swordsmen and vice versa 2nd:wait for the enemy to strike then perfectly parry at the very last moment to instantly follow up with a deadly strike
I especially enjoyed doing the shrines in the game. They are so pretty and peacfull and it's a great change of pace from all the fighting you usually have to do. The charmes you get from the shrines are Major charmes. they are usually a lot better then the regular minor charmes but you can only put them in the first two slots you have in any armour you got. You should really checkout all the charmes you get and assign them to the different armours, They help a lot. Notice you can assign the same charm to multiple armours at the same time.
I'm really enjoying your play-through's. One tiny tip given from humility of learning first hand, try keeping your health above 50%. Some enemy combo's will 2 shot you if you're under 50% in the early game before you get more max health. I started watching (and subscribing) with both Spider-Man games. Excellent mix of enthusiasm and skill. From what we've seen you play so far, maybe in the post Tsushima future check out the Horizon series to see if you're into it. It's a great mix of combat and story in a beautiful world space. Oh, and if you like open world collectables it has looooads.
The flowers can be collected for the merchant, he makes all kinds of dyes for your armor sets! You can also trade the flowers for sword kits, hats/headbands, even dyes for your bow! You should take a look next time you find a merchant, i’m sure you’ll find something you like!
You should equip your powerful yellow charms you get from those hard to reach shrines first. There are some good ones. Double loot, regenerate health when not in combat, and more.They only go in top 2 slots. Also, if you find anyone or anything interesting, Swipe down on pad to bow at it. Occasionally get interesting results. 😁 oh, and legends mode is a multiplayer you play with a partner.
I don't think it is spoiler-y to say, the flute playing changes the weather. Background info on Masako (in case you missed it) her husband was the one set on fire and beheaded in the intro. The two of them are also the first couple in white during the funeral pyre scene when Jin was a child. Sensei Ishikawa was the other one in white as you go up toward the pyre before you confront your uncle.
I found out yesterday that you can swipe down on the controller pad to bow down yourself and I love this detail. I do it to every NPC who does it to me haha
Easy Standoff tip: As enemies get harder, they will feint and be harder to anticipate. The trick is to watch their feet! When the feet actually move, strike
I have never taken photos before in any game, until this game. Took so many, and even used them as screensavers on the PS4. Unfortunately PS5 won’t let me have that lol. Lady Masako's story is one of the saddest I've ever seen written for a game. In a way I feel Lady Masako is in the end like a surrogate mother and Jin a surrogate son for the ones they lost. Lady Masako is also the least likely to turn on Jin for becoming the Ghost. Lord Adachi had a mentoring role to Jin as well, he was like an uncle to Jin and got an unjust ending. Lord Adachi deserved to go down fighting.
If you look at the control mapping you'll see that you can sheath your sword by command, and that you can bow on command. One of them is just cool, the other has use...

These aren't major differences, but I for example never really got used to the stance that has the kick in it - wind, maybe? Also, each stance has a few advanced techniques to unlock - using a technique you're comfortable with and know the flow of, you're going to do better than using one you don't "get", even if that stance was supposed to be better against that enemy.
Legends is the free multiplayer. Basically Jin divided into 4 - You can play as an Archer, Ronin, Assassin or Samurai. There are special abilities for each class as well as weapons. It's separate from the main game but has elements of it. You can play the stories without PS plus but if you want to play Survival, invite friends or join a group, you'll need it. Fight waves of zombie Mongols and Oni. Go on a massive raid - you'll need a mic for that tho. Can be addictive if you like a constant challenge. All gear and fashion is earned in game. There are plenty of youtubes with gameplay.
there are a lot of amours in the game but as you progress you'll just accumulate lots of materials naturally through side quests and looting so I'd say upgrade whatever armours you use most
Personally I would wait a bit to Starr upgrading until you have a few more armor sets and you have a playstyle you prefer. So you can upgrade to augment that. But you are right, resources are plenty, so it's more a matter of what you upgrade first.
stances gives you advantages over specific enemies. think of it as elements, water has advantage over fire, fire has advantage over wood etc. you can off course fight fire with fire, or even use wood and still win fire through skill, but why not use the correct element to your advantage.

Hi Miranda, a little thing that might put a smile on your face. One of the many easter eggs you'll find (or not) in the game is the bowing. Look for small signs scattered across the environment depicting a silhouette of a person bowing. If you bow facing these signs something cool will happen. It also works if you bow at certain graves. See if you can find them all!

You could do as much side quest as you like until you can’t anymore until you proceed through the main journey to access more. When wearing traveller's attire and searching for objects you may have noticed a green firefly darting around. These will also guide you to the object.
If you swipe down on the touch pad Jin will bow. Try doing that on dead bodies you find or signs that tell you to bow. If you swipe right on the touch pad Jin will wipe the blood of his sword. It's cool detail.
I'm the same way with side quests, I gotta do them all! This game has fantastic side quests, they add so much to the world and characters. Jin isn't just trying to save his uncle, he is also trying to save his home. Helping out every person who asks for his help completely makes sense for his character imo
Lady Masako is bad ass!! ❤ her story in this game is sad😢
In addition to the controller vibration, you can notice a small firefly flashing and hovering around Jin whenever an artifact is close by.

Yes Miranda this game will satisfy your desire for side missions. I was the same way when I first played this game. I couldn't stop doing them all cause they were so good and fun and so rewarding. Everyone's story is so good and I got so invested in them. I'm sure I don't need to tell you NOT to skip ANY side missions. Trust me, you won't regret it. No spoilers obviously.

Hey Miranda. Here's a spoiler free tip: look for the charm of Inari. Basically increases the supplies, bamboo, yew and predator hides you loot. Very handy for upgrading armor, bows and swords :) have fun!
You can swipe right on the ds5 to sheath/unseath the katana, jin will also clean the blood before unseathing and it makes for some cool animation

Stances just let you kill an enemy quicker and safer. Eg: to kill a a shield enemy with stone stance you have to parry or dodge an attack and then hit. If you use the water stance you can hit directly breaking his defense. Heavy attacks are just the "break-defense" technique

Speak for yourself, we definitely did not all go through this. The combat is very intuitive if you actually comprehend what it is that you read in the style descriptions. The difficulty should come in dealing with the fast pace and fairly high damage output of enemies, rather than not understanding Jin's abilities, which are largely quite simple.
19:50 For the “Stone” stance stab, you only need to hold the heavy attack long enough for the elbow to start going back. Then you can release to thrust earlier. Experience with practicing that technique will help with understanding just how long the hold needs to be. That said, I tend to favor the “Water” stance flurry strikes and invest in that line as soon as I unlock the stance. That is my go-to default in Lethal difficulty outside of duels.

You ARE Samurai! Samurai do not sneak behind. They face their enemy head on, with honour. That's what the Standoff Mechanic is for.
I just finished watching part 2 ❤❤ yes more please. The game is huge, it may take you a pretty long time to complete.
It's nice to see you getting the hang of combat and switching stances on the fly. Before too long you won't even need to think about which stance to use, you'll just do it instinctively. Each outfit has perks which you can upgrade. Don't worry about finding enough supplies for your upgrades. As long as you look in every nook and cranny in every building or tent, you will have enough to do all upgrades that are in the game. By about half way through the story I tend to settle between only three outfits for the rest of the game, and that's it.
One of them is the travellers attire and the other two I'm not going to tell you, as it will spoil some of the story for you. Let's just say that my favourite is one of the best looking and OP in the game. Waiting in anticipation for the next episode.

You know it's an unblockable attack when the indicator above an enemy's head is red. When you purchase an ability that allows you to block an unblockable attack, the indicator changes to show that you can now block it.

The Key to defeating enemys in this game is 1:multiple Heavy (Triangle) Attacks to stagger and break the guard of an enemy which is then open for deadly strikes. And when in water stance you break the guard against swordsmen faster and the same goes for water stance and shield men and the other stances. But when using the water stance you apply less stagger damage to swordsmen and vice versa 2nd:wait for the enemy to strike then perfectly parry at the very last moment to instantly follow up with a deadly strike
Getting the utility charm from the shrine will be very useful

I especially enjoyed doing the shrines in the game. They are so pretty and peacfull and it's a great change of pace from all the fighting you usually have to do.
The charmes you get from the shrines are Major charmes. they are usually a lot better then the regular minor charmes but you can only put them in the first two slots you have in any armour you got.
You should really checkout all the charmes you get and assign them to the different armours, They help a lot.
Notice you can assign the same charm to multiple armours at the same time.
You gotta love her smile throughout this episode

I'm really enjoying your play-through's. One tiny tip given from humility of learning first hand, try keeping your health above 50%. Some enemy combo's will 2 shot you if you're under 50% in the early game before you get more max health.
I started watching (and subscribing) with both Spider-Man games. Excellent mix of enthusiasm and skill. From what we've seen you play so far, maybe in the post Tsushima future check out the Horizon series to see if you're into it. It's a great mix of combat and story in a beautiful world space. Oh, and if you like open world collectables it has looooads.
The flowers can be collected for the merchant, he makes all kinds of dyes for your armor sets! You can also trade the flowers for sword kits, hats/headbands, even dyes for your bow! You should take a look next time you find a merchant, i’m sure you’ll find something you like!

You should equip your powerful yellow charms you get from those hard to reach shrines first. There are some good ones. Double loot, regenerate health when not in combat, and more.They only go in top 2 slots. Also, if you find anyone or anything interesting, Swipe down on pad to bow at it. Occasionally get interesting results. 😁 oh, and legends mode is a multiplayer you play with a partner.
It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played and I really really hope they make a part 2 to this game

Jin's having to act more like a ninja than a samurai to stop the Mongols but apparently the game's set before ninjas were a thing in ancient Japan.
I don't think it is spoiler-y to say, the flute playing changes the weather. Background info on Masako (in case you missed it) her husband was the one set on fire and beheaded in the intro. The two of them are also the first couple in white during the funeral pyre scene when Jin was a child. Sensei Ishikawa was the other one in white as you go up toward the pyre before you confront your uncle.

I found out yesterday that you can swipe down on the controller pad to bow down yourself and I love this detail. I do it to every NPC who does it to me haha

I have never taken photos before in any game, until this game. Took so many, and even used them as screensavers on the PS4. Unfortunately PS5 won’t let me have that lol. Can’t wait to see what May come from a sequel. Also, if you’re loving the Mongol culture and Shamanism you will love the DLC and animal interactions there lol. 👍
Lady Masako's story is one of the saddest I've ever seen written for a game. In a way I feel Lady Masako is in the end like a surrogate mother and Jin a surrogate son for the ones they lost. Lady Masako is also the least likely to turn on Jin for becoming the Ghost. Lord Adachi had a mentoring role to Jin as well, he was like an uncle to Jin and got an unjust ending. Lord Adachi deserved to go down fighting.

If you look at the control mapping you'll see that you can sheath your sword by command, and that you can bow on command. One of them is just cool, the other has use...
Try investing in your fighting techniques. Specially stone and water stance. Them strong attacks become very beneficial and with faster precision

Well, not exactly - each stance also has different quick attack combos, with different timing, stagger effect, and reach. These aren't major differences, but I for example never really got used to the stance that has the kick in it - wind, maybe?
Also, each stance has a few advanced techniques to unlock - using a technique you're comfortable with and know the flow of, you're going to do better than using one you don't "get", even if that stance was supposed to be better against that enemy.

I've beaten the game once (minus the DLC) and had no idea you could observe AND kill the leader to get double the progress towards a stance.
Legends is the free multiplayer. Basically Jin divided into 4 - You can play as an Archer, Ronin, Assassin or Samurai. There are special abilities for each class as well as weapons. It's separate from the main game but has elements of it. You can play the stories without PS plus but if you want to play Survival, invite friends or join a group, you'll need it. Fight waves of zombie Mongols and Oni. Go on a massive raid - you'll need a mic for that tho. Can be addictive if you like a constant challenge. All gear and fashion is earned in game.
There are plenty of youtubes with gameplay.
You can break guard of you enemy by doing multiple heavy strikes with triangle.

there are a lot of amours in the game but as you progress you'll just accumulate lots of materials naturally through side quests and looting so I'd say upgrade whatever armours you use most
Legends mode is entering the multiplayer, which is really fun, but it takes you out of the main game.

Personally I would wait a bit to Starr upgrading until you have a few more armor sets and you have a playstyle you prefer. So you can upgrade to augment that. But you are right, resources are plenty, so it's more a matter of what you upgrade first.
stances gives you advantages over specific enemies. think of it as elements, water has advantage over fire, fire has advantage over wood etc. you can off course fight fire with fire, or even use wood and still win fire through skill, but why not use the correct element to your advantage.
