I agree that this is a surprisingly fun sword! Regardless of your background, this is a piece that gives the user an instant connection. This is one of my favorite pieces from LK and easy to recommend on the dynamics alone but it is also a durable little guy. I pushed one to failure and found it to be a very durable little sword, the heat treatment and such seemed to be done quite well. The newer blades seem to come with a decent edge too. Great video sir.
Agreed on all points. Very nice sword. I honestly wasn't sure I'd like it, given how short it is, but it feels so comfortable in the hand that it won me over immediately. The shorter blade makes recovery very quick and easy compared to "standard" length blades. Highly recommend.
It's got a really interesting feel, and cuts well. It's size and weight allow for my gf who has wrist-issues to cut with it comfortably. Awesome vid, as usual! Curious, where did you get those Ming Dynasty soldier prints on the wall?
My wife has pretty much claimed the sword at this point :D and it's been great to get her into cutting. The prints I found somewhere online, from a search of Ming Dynasty Banner Men. Then I just printed them up locally. I was surprised how nice they came out.
Any insight as to the often minimalist-to-virtually non-existent handguards on many Chinese swords? Like the one featured in today's video, almost nothing there to protect one's hand from a downward sliding weapon(a common technique to 'de-fang the snake')...
I really can't say. There were guards on other swords and long handled weapons of the time so why they weren't on the dao is truly a mystery. My only guesses would be from technique and equipment: having a shield to guard and the sword to chop, hack, and slash. It could also be how the swords were worn, perhaps a guard made it difficult to access and draw the dao depending on how it was tied on to the body. Or lastly, it could have been the elongation of a knife, which had no guard for ease of carry and use, so maybe that part of the original design stuck with it. However, it is really only supposition and speculation since there are no records of notes that specify the reasons for the design.
I learned much of my gymnastic movements from my first kung fu instructor who was a classically trained gymnast. There is no "kung fu method" to it in my teaching, so I would suggest looking up gymnasts and coaches who teach these movements all the time as they will probably have videos up online, and more depth in their teaching method.
As far as stabbing, speaking for myself, the iron ring lends itself for a lanyard. If I was going into battle, I would tie the sword to my hand! I would NOT want to chance dropping it! Your life depends on keeping your weapons in your hands!

Thanks!!! To be honest I was surprised how much I ended up liking the sword. It both met and exceeded my expectations!
I wanted to learn Iaido...I always loved that swift sword work. By the way, nice vid on this blade

Bonjour Sifu 🙏🏼
Arme très intéressante. Merci 🙏🏼
It’s a great sword! The heavy weight at the end of scabbard? Perfect for using as a club!
Simple and elegant. Well presented.
Nice video! 👍
Thank you!!!
Great review. I own one of those and she is a very fun sword to cut with and just to look at. Love it's lightweight agility and historicity.
I completely agree!!!

the user would tie their hand to thie handle through the ring. a handkerchiefs or a scarf . It won't drop or slip out of your hand
