HI, I have a question over the remote communications. If you were to program remotely, is their a way to make sure the data is good like a crc check between client and server of the transfered data? Someone's internet may not have good connection as well and possibly time out or drop packets is why I ask.

Yeah, it's called reading the ECU after.

@Marc_Wolfe some scantools will time out if a communication is not there and fail. With it being real-time data transfer from a scantool, it could have a communication problem if the internet goes bad let's say in the middle of a write process. Then the ecu potentially gets bricked and you best make a bdm backup before starting to do any live writing over the internet

@@CLGPerformance You must have good internet for sure. The CAN speed is at 500Kbps, the internet should get you 10M at least. I have not yet found the timeout was an issue. Actuially DC706 itself requesting the seed/password sometime caused the timeout due to heavy loaded server server.

@@usbbdm definitely need a quality connection. It's a great feature for over LAN. Most users wouldn't know how to remote access an IP through firewalls and port forwarding. My ISP blocks ports so being able to change the port would be handy

@CLGPerformance yes the port can be changed as the IP address. Just override the default one.

neat. do it with HPTuners LOL

With HPtuners remote devices, it sends commands to the device and stores it locally on the tool and then sends it over the net that way. It's not a live transfer like this. Thats why I asked if their was a crc check or some way of verification of the data being sent and received correctly in real rime

@@CLGPerformance None of that matters even if there's any truth to any of it. HPTuners still works over CAN.

@@Marc_Wolfe I'm talking over the internet not the CAN side of the device. I open vcm editor and it communicates to the remote tool over the internet, then that tool then communicates to the ECU and vehicle via CAN. Data stores on the RTD device as a file and then gets sent over the internet to the remote tuner. This is totally different

You question is what now? If you don't trust internet traffic, don't use this.

HPT was used to program E38 over internet and one laptop was on WIFI!.
