    Those were some scary winds. Glad that you and your rig are safe. You never know what is ahead so it is best to always be prepared enough to never run out of your supplies. Better to carry a little more for a day or two than run the risk of some terrible weather that you cannot get out in to get the supplies for you and the pups.

    Chicken tender on the grill. Soon my belly they will fill. I think there's a Country song in there somewhere. Winds a blowin' over trucks. It's even too windy for the ducks. We lived in a mobile home between 2004 & 2008. Every windstorm felt like the Noah's Ark ride at Kennywood Park.

    We live in Billings, MT wind blowing here now close to 40-50 mph which normal for us. A lot of time the winds gust as high as 60-70 mph throughout the state. We have lots of wind socks on the highways around the whole state. Be smart and pull over someplace and wait it out

    You can definitely see the low on the map. At 80 mph winds, it is technically a category one hurricane. Rotella or Delvac is fine for that generator too. But, please do be careful of that wind with a high sided vehicle.

    Good call on the wind. I drove through one of those wind storms from CO to Albuquerque late last Dec. It's hard and risky driving. The wind was still gusting up to 45 mph. the next morning. I was behind schedule, but my gut was telling me to just hunker down and let the storm pass. Returning to my rig at the park, I found my license tag which had been ripped off of the rig by the wind. I guess that's what you'd call a message. I booked an extra day ( happily at the 50% Passport America rate) and settled in to catch up on other things. GetHomeitis can be very dangerous: don't let it corner you into bad choices. I got a lot done, had a nice meal and was in great shape to drive the next day in more normal conditions. I even had time to do a parts run and get what I needed to reattach my license plate!

    I live in very windy Southern Alberta Canada and the advice we give people driving through is plan on leaving between 4 - 5 am and driving as far as you can. The wind seems to start about 7:30 am but with a three hour head start you should avoid most of it. I have seen semi's blow over and it is just darn scary.

    That animated weather chart showed that New Mexico was getting strong winds. I lived in New Mexico for 5 years and have to say "surely they jest!" ; ) I've lived in 4 western states and Texas and Oklahoma are not considered western states for those of us near the "left coast." You must be from somewhere east of those states.
    We had a fairly good blizzard this winter that had very strong winds. We have a couple of spots with anemometers hooked up to flashing lights and a "high profile vehicles - do not enter" message on a sign. There are windsocks about every half mile in the worst spot that extends about 4-5 miles on the highway. There were 4 tractor trailer rigs and 2 fifth wheel trailers on their sides with 3-4" per hour snowfall and the wind was probably somewhere above 90 mph. This would be similar to 70 mph at lower elevations, but at 7,000 feet the same effect involves higher wind speeds as the air is thinner. This incident closed the highway for 12-18 hours.

    • @PippiPeterson
      @PippiPeterson  5 лет назад

      I’m from Oregon originally but live in Arizona, lived in CA too. Texas is definitely Central US but it feels west to me because it doesn’t have that east coast feel.

    • @wannabetowasabe
      @wannabetowasabe 5 лет назад

      @@PippiPeterson The western U.S. is defined as 11 different states and Texas and Oklahoma are not on that list. Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota don't have an east coast feel either, but they are not part of the west either. Just because something doesn't feel like the east coast does not make it part of the west.

    We were driving down interstate on Easter in our class a to camp for the weekend and the wind was blowing around 30mph and it ripped our awning off the rv and blew it up over the roof so we are getting that replaced now. I was watching another full time rver and she was in Colorado and they were getting 80 to 90mph winds and she could feel here class c lifting up of it wheels on one side so she went to a shower house fearing her rv was going to blow over which it didn't but that was terrifying for her.

    I glad you spent an extra day waiting out the winds. I was on the road with a fifth wheel in northern New Mexico in the same storm and I waited a couple of days for the winds and snow to leave. I seen more than one fifth wheel blown over in Wy. because of 50 mph side winds, it is better to error on being safe than cleaning up a problem. How much younger is Chase than Pearl? Chase always seems to run around and Pearl looks on.

  • @kitteno726
    @kitteno726 5 лет назад

    Yep, one trip out west in 1988 we actually got to see the whole side of the fifth wheel while towing in hellacious gusts, glad you chose wisely to wait it out. We have the same question as several others: what weather app do you have? We really liked the detail it showed.

    I know many women who could not figure out how to do your camping Procedures.. Things like Dog Food you need to purchase at Sam's Club or Walmart.. So expensive at a local grocery store.. Propane is normally referred to as a gas. I can fill my Propane tanks from a bulk tank for 1/3 what you pay for refills.. So the wind blew your pilot light out ..
    Not many trees in that Camp Ground ..

    I never understood why they put those types of lights in RV's? You have to check the screws often as they come loose traveling. We changed all ours out for that reason. There are times a storm just pops up and you have no choice. We had one happen in ND last July. Gusts of 100 MPH in that storm and glad it lasted only mins. Snapped our awning as we were headed to Alaska. It was fixable once we got home but scary as all heck and we bought a lock for the awning so it hopefully won't happen again.

    Pippi so far this year weather has been unusual. It seems like for the past month we have had thunder storms, lightening, rain and once a tad of hale where I live. Once when I lived in Washington State the winds were so bad that driving was horrible due to the blowing sand. That's a bummer about the light. Glad you were still able to get electric for the time I guess you did. Just a part of living on the road. But then with all the storms we have been getting a few days ago my electric went out until they fixed it. Happy to see Chase and Pearl out having a good time.
