This classic never fails to make me laugh,...and Steptoe & Son is up there with the very best this country as ever produced.....miss those great times in British comedy
This is just about my fave scene in the movie, the way Albert is looking at him and his Facials especially when he changes from nodding to coughing, crafty old Devil, after Harold said how much meat cost, he fully went into butcher just to pull that off, Absolute Gold!
Best scene, really, is when dog runs away from Harold all the way home and Steptoe bashes into and then calls it a "pillock" At that moment, he sees the neighbours pigeons flying in the sky, and then nods to himself.... Just fantastic
I’m going to go into a butcher shop (if I can find any nowadays) and ask if he has any chickens. When he says “yes”, I’ll say “good, could I have half a dozen eggs, then?”.
Classic comedy from the 60s/70s,.. at a time when free expression was allowed uncensored,...until the PC Brigade came along and destroyed the very fabrics that made British comedy the funniest and the best in the world.
Western Unity people are stupid though mate, they saw love thy neighbour as the opposite to what you described, same with Alf garnett, the joke was on them not the other way round. 👍🏼
I can tell you jim.i was a butcher and if he had done that with some of the old guys i worked with they would have hung drawn and quartered him bloody funny though
it's hard to say really - the other film has been on tv a lot more & I'm inclined to swing more to the other one . This was a bit darker in places despite the absurdity of the greyhound training :)
@ Jeremiah Bodine That's perfectly true! And, i'm glad that you mentioned 'politics' because even though this film was shot back in the early 70's; it just goes to show that a butcher who has all the shit of the day - in the form of sawdust and breadcrumbs all over his floor, deserves everything he fucking gets! Its only fit "for the dawg." LOL
always enjoyed step toe, as people have already said here proper British comedy. Is it me or do all Morden comedy's if you can call them that try make them like friends the American comedy? they all have something missing, like they left something out its all goodie to shoes, the feel of a children's tv program. no wonder the world is so childish now a days.
