Well i hope you get arround all these car troubles with the cars , especialy Nigel . My estate, Dennis Waterman has been retired for a bit , leaking diesel pump , hopefully will be sorted in the new year . Like you say when a car is special to you . Ive been driving the silver mk4 golf for now , cost me a couple of hundred to get to mot standard , one new lower arm because of bushes and a cv boot . Was looking over the wifes new car and i can see already thats going to need a few thinhs doing in the future . Keeping cars on the road is never ending . May be shison just needs a gear box service ?. I took Dennis round the block today and realised i miss driving him , with a jump pack on he started first time after a month .
I forgot to mention that in yesterday's video I noticed a brief flash of Rochdale Town Hall with what could be your yellow Peugeot bicycle outside. Must say its a rather grand structure with a clock tower reminiscent of Westminter's Elizabeth Tower (the one that's not actually called 'Big Ben). According to that fount of knowledge Wikipedia, a certain notorious moustached German gentleman had designs on dismantling Rochdale Town Hall and shipping it brick by brick back to Germany. You'd really think that anyone with inclinations of world domination would not need to nick Rochdale Town Hall! Poor Nigel! 🙁 CVT gearbox trouble unfortunately seems inevitable. I wonder the feasibility of simply replacing the gearbox with a standard manual?
In the scheme of things the problems with Nigel are to be expected in a 20+ year old car, a few years ago the 25 was considered by the majority as a disposable car and indeed most were scrapped accordingly. However, times have changed as these cars are truly becoming rare and more importantly any car being easily repairable is a rarity hence through hell and high water I have persisted in keeping my old nail on the road. Keep at it Mustard, he will reward you through his continued loyalty and “it” factor !
What a coincidence! Same has happened to my 75 1.8. After I replaced head gasket and all other gaskets and seals. Apparently the cam seals starts too leak quite quickly if they are pushed too far in. They are supposed to sit absolutely flush with the outer surface on the cylinder head to seal correctly!
Yes one of the holdups when "the Man" did my Lagetha's (75 1.8 n/a) head gasket was the parts kit did not include cam seals - so this added a couple of days waiting during the rebuild.
I think when lying under a car which is supported only by a single car jack you‘re risking way more then just a few drips of oil in your face… pls use axle stands or similar 😮
My rover 1992 416gsi failed the mot last week on a track rod end. so I decided to replace the both track rod ends and the inner rods got the parts from autodoc for under £40 I aso replaced the cam seals not that long ago it really isn't a hard job. Much easier than a headgaset.
Having reached the end of the line with a 2006 Volvo XC70 - 175,987 miles I know how this feels. When do you call it a day? For me was when I calculated between the first owner and me over £16,000 in 18 years and then the prop shaft went for its second time, the swirl flaps arm snapped, and the EGR needed changing. So off to WeBuyAnyCar and £819.00 later I was off to find another ‘reliable’ Volvo. Another one owner, main dealer serviced example but this time an S80. Dealer I bought it from [paid £2,000 for it] had spent close in £500.00 for new lower suspension wishbones and new vacuum engine mounts. But now I need a new duel-mass flywheel, radio as its lights have stopped working, and a Turbo because the vanes have seized and new glow plugs too. But on we go…
I'm absolutely gutted about Shison. I wonder if they have a broken heart after being parted from Boaty. Given the sentimental nature of them and the fact they are the only known non binary Rover in existence, I'd happily contribute to a crowd fund to get them back running
Its a 20 year old car you will get problems my focus with full service history and 30 thousand miles and I've had to do bottom ball joints and a wheel bearing and only one plate on the sill and the rear arches need rust treatment and paint on the arch lip but like your rover parts are cheap and easy to get and more simple and reliable then the electrical junk wats built now and costs a fortune in the garage
Why not just rip nigels engine out and put a new one in easy to do and engines are two a penny then rebuild nigels engine in the interim on a engine stand
Oh dear that's not gone well. Unfortunately they are both old car's these things happen. I am sure you will get them both fixed I have faith in you 😊

I’ve seen this on mine, the ends of the camshafts corrode and swell up causing the leak
Bugger! Sorry to hear that Paul. 😮

It's (almost..) always something eh, Captain? 😦 But these are just minor setbacks. You'll sort it. 👍🚗💨

That soup 🤢
Nigel can be fixed as for the CVT on that other Rover that so much money in repairing that CVT they are absolutely terrible transmissions
