It's so nice to watch a lesson from a drummer incorporate stuff I learned as a percussionist into drums and work it around the kit! Gives me hope that I can work on my confidence and creativity!
I know you went into it briefly on drumroll. But the “Monster Fill” from sorry. Or the intro fill to XO Tour Lif3 would be super awesome. Thanks a ton. Much love
I’m just in awe of you. Such a privilege to watch you. The first time i saw you play is in your 1st Cinema cover, then from there I was inspired and motivated to play drums even back then I know nothing of it. Then now I’m 15, I know how to play drums and I play in Church. And that feeling to wait everyday just to see if you post anything in this Channel. Man! Time is fast. And I just want you to know that your the “Reason” why I’m able to get at this point, “Reason” why I can read music, “Reason” why I play drums, “Reason” why I learned gospel chops and metal chops. Your a blessing in my life and Thank You Luke. God bless
That's the Dirk Blast. But thanks for throwing in that Pataflafla explanation, I've used that before and never knew or realized what it was. Very cool.
Hello! I am an amateur drummer from Vietnam. I have been following you for quite some time and after the show "Không Cay Không Về" , I have officially become a fan of you because of your talent and funny. Wishing you lots of health and success. Love you from Vietnam!
I remember when you uploaded your Cinema remix, I was so awestruck and mindblown I've been considering getting myself a drumkit ever sense. You are truly a master of your craft. I can't tell if you just woke up or you've been overworking yourself but you seem tired Luke, haha. You're a great musician 🤘
Great breakdown of something that sounds complicated. Can we please leave this guy alone and drop the Dirk blast. This is his channel and I doubt that most of HIS subs know who Dirk is. Can't we just appreciate that he has opened this up to new drummers or maybe even old drummers that would not have found this otherwise.
Why would we not give credit to the actual creator of this blast. That’s like saying “I came up with Moeller technique” without actually crediting Moeller. Don’t be an idiot.
I remember this fill for sure but the reason this video was shared to me and why I shared it to others was the stick tricks. I know, nothing musical about it but it was fun as hell to watch!
This blast pattern is what I remember the most from the cinema remix, sounded so damn good. Cannot believe its a pataflafla in disguise, shows how useful rudiments can be in the right hands.
Dropping in to give much deserved kudos. That was so clean and interesting to hear. I play music, and have only dabbled in the drums, but this encouraged me to focus more on percussion. Thanks again!
I'm not a drummer but I can appreciate these lessons you put out. I do have a question for you though... Do you and Jason plan to do anything together again?
Hopefully you can put out some of your drum beats. I know people love the fills and fun stuff but I would love to break down some of your drum beats like you did with this fill. Thanks !
So here I am watching your Cinema vid on 25% speed....pause...back 5 seconds....pause...wait.....back 5 seconds. Eyes glued on rapid movement. Oh, ok. Now its this.....🤣 Then I find this video today...Pffff Keep killing it man. Good stuff. Thanks for the vids. Would love to see the breakdown for the 2:32 fill in the song.
keep doing this king of tutorial video, i love it : You are one of my favorite drummer on the internet ( with mac mc guire ). Could you make a video about the push pull technique or something with hand dexterity ?
I remember being a freshman in college when you uploaded the first remix haha. Damn man, we’re getting old bro lol. Only kidding. Have a good day Luke 🙌
In that Cinema video what are you doing after you catch the cymbal and after the double bass part? Too me it looked like 3 triplets: snare + rack + floor tom + double bass. Is that correct? It's dope as hell. It's a nice triplet motif, including the way you flip the sticks 3 times right before you catch that crash. Bad ass. Please respond. I want to figure it. I watched the video a hundred times even on super slow motion but I can't quite figure it out.
@@MEnubnub try learning a few different grips, I generally use American and German grip. You can also do some finger exercises, get a heavy stick and pinch it between your thumb and index pretty tight and do 8th notes at around 60 bpm. Heres the trick tho. Only use your fingers, no wrist, or arm, and you arent hitting the drum, your just putting the tip of the stick to the drum slowly. do that for 4 counts "1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and" "Number= down" "and=up" times. Then go to the next finger, and so on, once you get through all the fingers, switch to 16th notes. "Numbers" and "and" is down. Itll get those hand and finger strong.

@kidi grimmjow Eh, a professional drummer who's trying to teach a new kind of blast beat should be expected to know a little something about the standards that already exist.
The dude takes his time to breakdown something that he probably got asked about alot and gets blasted with 50 different ways to make the same Dirk comments. Its two rudiments strung together. Do you give credit for every single thing you "come up with" on the drums to whoever did it first? Guarantee someone else has done it. I don't see anyone giving credit to the first person in the comments to call it out when they write their same Dirk blast comment..lol
Not sure what I expected from the RUclips comments section but man, I did not know that sad neckbeards made up the majority of the online drumming community. It's embarrassing seeing all these smart ass comments as if he needs to be corrected repeatedly about "the Dirk blast", as if Dirk Verbeuren needed you chumps to defend his work. If you have to tear a person down for giving a drum lesson, newsflash: you're compensating for some inadequacies in your own life. Seek help.

Luke, your merch link is broken, man. This one does work: merchnow.com/catalogs/luke-holland
You should blast that left hand next pimp...
Luke on his OG RUclips grind was the reason I started playing drums and now his new lessons are gonna have me pick up the sticks again 🤘🏽
This lesson was a super helpful and simple breakdown of what you’re doing. Honestly super great, i look forward to more of this style of content!
Anybody else remember him teaching this on 180 drums back in the day?
Always! 🤘🔥
Old Luke fans squad
or how about when he released his OG breakdown of this fill when he was recording Real 👀
lol I remember when he uploaded this lesson on his own channel with Jeremy Tremp.

This fill was iconic. When I read this title I knew exactly what fill this was.
I’ve shown this beat from cinema to everyone that would watch😂.

I love Dirks OG dirk blast video 🤣 He’s like the Gandalf of drumming. Soilwork is love, soilwork is life.

Love you from Vietnam!
Yeah dirk blast is really fun, I like to do it around the toms to transition out of the blast.
4:21 The coolest thing i ever heard.
yes! the ghost beats being moved around was something i didnt know i needed in my life, but i'm grateful he blessed us once again haha
Its my favorite part too.
Xanthan Gum when people say stuff like that.. it's not meant to be taken SO literally..

Well then perhaps his subs should learn who Dirk is?
Thank you so much for those drum lessons! They really help a lot. Clean and on point in a short video, exactly like a good drum teacher should be.
Yupp, this was it The first LH video I saw and left me mind blown! I’m not a drummer but appreciate how you break down your techniques ✌️
LOVE the level of psychology u seem to use when crafting parts!
I've always been a huge fan of that fill 🤟🏼🔥

Dirk Verbeuren blast from 1994. Recorded in 1996.
I'm not a drummer but I can appreciate these lessons you put out. I do have a question for you though...
Do you and Jason plan to do anything together again?
They're working on album 2 atm
perfect question

One of my Faves of yours. Good job
Nice DIRK blast buddy
These tutorials are on point man, love seeing you teach! Stoked for more content!
Your drum skills are too great.
Besides, handsome!!!!!!
My role model is!!!
Dude that’s awesome thanx for that lesson
Hopefully you can put out some of your drum beats. I know people love the fills and fun stuff but I would love to break down some of your drum beats like you did with this fill. Thanks !
Rudiments, stick heights, obsession with being clean - this has to have come from marching percussion
just awesome, just awesome, i love this type of video Thanks men, I really appreciate this
So well explained and useful, thank you.
It is so true I love that cover and that part is cool as hell.
Nice beat and fill, really professional style 😎👍👏
Boss. I'd be sad about how much I suck, but greatness makes me happy! :)
Best fill I've ever seen
The shells on that DW are beautiful :0

Would love to see the breakdown for the 2:32 fill in the song.
I was waiting exactly for this lesson. Gonna try it out later.
i think that this is called "the Dirk blast" and it is recorded on many albums already.
Who else remembers the original breakdown of this from back in the day?
Thank you for sharing your "secrets" with us :D
Dirk blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honor a quien honor merece... Maybe Luke does not know where this blast comes from...

Thanks boss I always wanted to learn this crazy to think i can do it. 🙏
Welcome back to Malaysia...soon✌
The fact that you played that slow is more impressive to me. Wow dude.
Am I imagining things or did he release this same lesson like 3 or 4 years ago when he did the tesseract one?
Nick Markellos thought the same thing 😂
He did. Not entirely sure, but it may not have been on his channel
I believe he broke it down on Drumeo or something like that, but not on his own channel.
He did.
So dope! Keep up in helping others improve their skills!
ive been wanting to know how this fill was done for forever. thank you!
Bruh that fill is legendary still remember it lol
Coolest guy on internet 👏
3:56 "it's kind of a hard one to do slow"
I'm like whaaaaaaaa
I can't play the drums, but when i watching this i love it 🖤
Make a video of you showing off your tattoos! They are fire 🙌🏻
So sick 🔥🔥🔥
That cover is incredible. I'm personally responsible for about 30 of those video views!
Still getting the hang of the first one...😭 But keep them coming luke i absolutely love these videos.
My fvrt drummer....🤘🤘💙💙💙💙
You’re so tight as a drummer I follow you as a guitarist.
I've shown this to everyone who would watch at my work 😂😂😂
Good lesson sir....
Wow that's cool
Amazing, bro!
Too cool! But if I start randomly biting people in the mall…it’s because I’m still not getting it and…it’s all your fault! (Maniacal laughter)😈
Awesome stuff Luke!! But unfortunately, I've seen this lesson on Drumeo. We need more of your chops😊🤘🤘
Nice technique. Could you cover Archspire - 'Involuntary Doppelgänger' or Spawn of Possession - 'Scorched'?
Cymbals sound great in this video
Vlw cara mesmo estando inglês eu consegui entender o rundimento
dude i love this please go into lessons on youtube. I would watch and like everyone of them.
Thank you. I really needed this...also plz teach the one from sucker
Epic!!

I need to practice this !!!
I just bought an electric alesis drumkit..l if you have any tips or lessons for that.. and also would be cool to see you playing an electric drumset
4:28 how do you get your stick to fly straight up? mine always fly off to the sides
Its the way youre holding your sticks. And the angle of impact. If you're coming off at an angle you might be slicing (hitting at an angle)
Mine flew into mouth and gave me a fat lip for a few days

Can you come up with some more tutorials, especially on ghost notes.
You were literally 1 years old when Dirk made this blast lmao
youve gotta be able to play this song in your sleep now lol
I’m looking for the drumless version of Cinema. I can’t find it anywhere :(
how is this guy only on 600K subs....
Muy guapo el redoble
Sooo its basically a Dirk Verbeuren Blast?
It's exactly the Dirk Blast. And he's claiming to have created it... not a good move.
