- This is my Sig Sauer P229 DAK that I bought used at Barney's Indoor Range. This weapon was used by the LSU Campus Police Department.
DAK Version
SIG released an altered version of the double-action only (DAO) pistols called the DAK (for Double Action Kellerman, after the designer of the system). The DAK capability is available in 220, 226, 229 and 239 models. When firing the pistol the first trigger pull is 6.5 lbf (compared to 10 pounds for the standard DAO).
Sig Sauer P229 DAK- The P229 DAK is the standard issued Coast Guard duty weapon. This weapon features the DAK trigger system which makes it a very safe pistol. Here are the specs of the Sig Sauer P229 DAK:
•Caliber: 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 SIG
•Action type: DAK
•Trigger pull: 6.5 lbs
•Length: 7.1 inches
•Height: 5.4 inches
•Loaded weight: 32 ounces
•Capacity: 13 rounds for the 9mm and 12 for the .40 S&W and .357 SIG
•Grips: Black Polymer
•Frame: Black Hard Anodized
•Slide: Nitron
•CA Compliant Спорт
Carried this as a duty weapon for over ten years. I keep it yet for concealed carry when I can use a larger weapon. Very accurate!
Beautiful weapon
Just got the same one I amin Louisiana love it
Nice video, I own the P226 DAK chambered in .40SW and love it
My husband uses this, also HK lem is his favorite trigger. But i got him a p30sk and he's getting a p30l and 229 da sa. Whats great is dak and LEM triggers help you with all triggers in terms of trigger control.
Great gun for people who like to use revolvers. Hk p2000 lem is one he recommends for lighter carry
Very nice review, love sig firearms. Thanks for sharing!
Great review Blaze!
Nice Gun!
Nice video with some good info!
Great review! Everything I wanted to know, nuthin I didn't. Really liked all the measurements and the take-down too. Thanks and keep em coming!
Love the gun, and the twin Sebenzas in the background.
it's damned good - no doubt about it. it & the 226.... keepers for life..... that's how good.
Your using what my mom uses everyday. USCG!
My local pawn shop has one....would like to know how I can tell the difference between DAO or DAK ? It is in 40 S&W with 3 12 round mags......
THE BIG BLAZE!
Nice review. I have two of these both with siglite. one in .40 and one .357sig, also have the .22 conversion kit
I ordered a 229 Monday. It's the standard double to single. I can't wait until it comes in.
Blaze, that may be my next choice in handguns. Good review
@thecajunblaze, I have watched many reviews on various pistols and am quite impressed with you video editing and duration of the video. Many other reviewers tend to carry on and interject opinion often. This video was well put together and I particularly enjoyed the use of the magnifying glass to examine the spring. Keep up the good work!!
Beautiful firearm. That would make a nice bedside gun. What flashlight are you using to hold the Sig up? Thanks for sharing Blaze!
This was a great gun I carried it everyday in islamorada florida for the coast guard. And I like the double action only trigger and function. once you get used to the trigger you can group nice shots all day. when I joined they were fazing out the m9 (92fs) so I trained on that in basic and then qualified on this on ppc (practical pistol course). its a great gun opinions on why its inferior to a double/single action 229 dont matter. if these are hard to find ill get a double single but I would rather have this just because.
What rate where you in the Coast Guard? I'm looking to join and am interested in being an Electricias mate.
@@alfonsorivera8734 id guess he fucked with wires around a few unarmed choppers. Then maybe a crew chief. The over all sense of importance these bozos have is so weird....its like the TSA agents at the airport checking baggage and asking some grandma to take off her shoes....its frankly disgusting and unAmerican. Its gross.
The entire coast guard should be staffed by veterans...men that actually signed up to fight for their country and then moved along...because coasties traditionally are draft skippers and conscientious objectors...not a really dedicated group.
1:42 - "Point it in a safe direction..." Yeah, right at the Sebenzas! Good one, Blaze! LOL.
Man Those sebenzas are nice,I wish I could afford one
Great review.. I had one, but unfortunately sold it.. It was a great pistol though..
Thanks for sharing my friend
man.. im getting jealous just looking at those knives haha
This review is spot on. I have had the same experience and the same results. Personally I don,t mind the weight. I believe the weight is a benefit for the recoil and getting back on target. The weapon is built to last, and keep on thumpin! SIG. is A FINE Firearm. Get 1 if U can.
With All Due Respect: Mike T. (Tabor Hill Armory)
Nice Sebenzas in the background :D
.
Nice review.. there are 2 pull weights however, not 6.5 for each.. when the hammer is partially back, pulling back the slide or after firing, the pull lbs is about 8 lbs for the first reset point and about 6 to 6.5 lbs for the second reset or trigger fully forward. There is a better mechanical advantage on the second reset though longer pull.
nice gun and that's quite a collection of sebenzas you got in the back =)
I got one for sale! Identical to this. Almost new! $750.00 buyer pays transfer fee, and any other fee applicable for transfer - comes with 3, 13 round mags and couple holsters. Comes with case. Lmk!
Where did you buy the $10 magazines at? I just paid 60 for 1 .357sig/40 cal mag... :/
@imacf90 ha ha! me too thats the first thing I started looking at and couldn't stop =-D
What do you think of the two trigger reset points?
สวยดีครับตัวนี้น่าใช้ครับ
Anyone - what is the different between the P229 DAK and the P229 AL SO ??
P229 Is the Shit on Of My favorite Guns
Can I ask what the cost was?
Nice gun! What is the weight difference between your p228 and p229 (both empty)?
If you had the p229 in 9mm, would you prefer p228 or p229?
@Shinyapplz
I owned a 228 version.
@AkimboNinjaPWN thats not bad..i meant more of just shooting randomly into the air...which is deadly lol
how heavy is the trigger pull? NICE STUFF and great video!
6.5 lbs
Great video and VERY nice pistol. I have one word for you though-Ballistol! That thing needs a cleaning.
ha I see the LSU police every day when on campus and I never noticed that they carried sigs.
@AkimboNinjaPWN haha nice
yessir!
that would look nice with some hogue dak grips. get rid of that decocker hump on the left side and streamlines the gun. but they cost upwards of $100
@thecajunblaze yeah.. i really wish i could afford one
@thecajunblaze I mean, if you dont like them you can always give me one!!
They both end in paperwork.
@lovesigsauer p226
Barneys gun shop is a joke. They're expensive, the range is crappy and so are the employees. Every so often I go in there, and have been ignore EVERY time. Last time I was there asking for range scrap, they told me it was illegal for me to get scrap lead from a range.😐. If your in the area, look up Daves gun shop. It's by far the best in town.
I really like Sigs, but I prefer the trigger pull on Glocks. Do you think this weapon would be a good fit?
@AkimboNinjaPWN at least he would know his target. Not like a stray bullet potentially killing an innocent person. Which Has Happened.
★★★★★
Decent review but kind of skipped one of the keys to the DAK system, and one of the reasons some people don't like it. So after your first round the weapon cycles you have 2 seperate trigger reset points. The first is a much shorter but much heavier trigger pull. I know our duty guns (USCG) its right around 12.5 lbs. Or you can let it all the way out to the full reset which is a longer but lighter pull at about 8lbs. It makes the trigger difficult for some people to manipulate consistently. Don't get me wrong the P229 is a DAMN find gun however that DAK trigger is wonkey. And no its not the same as the old M9 because you had consistency you knew your first shot was double action your other shots where all going to be single action. With the DAK if your shooting quickly you have to train to either let it out all the way each squeeze or let it out to just that first reset and KNOW exactly where it is. It can be done, but its different from a lot of other handguns.
Joshua Sayles I was so happy when we got rid of that Barrera when I was in the CG. '03-'07
If its DAO. Why not switch to p320..
Own it. Best handgun I have ever used. That said, no need for the Dak trigger. The trigger in the p250 is simpler (though not as durable), and the pull tension would be better at 4lbs, and still be safe. DAO is the only way to go, especially if you learned to shoot with a revolver. But the chubby grip is perfect for MY hand, and that's why it's my ATF.
The DAK is not a weapon I recommend for police use. I had one. Got rid of it. It's called a double action, but it shoots from the single action position only, therefore, it's a single action. Heavy full length trigger pull. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine weapon for shooting targets, but not a duty weapon. I went to the P320. I absolutely love that weapon.
AIC SKS USCG uses it
If you like it so much, stick it up your ass! Keep shooting the weapon. I don't give two god damns if homeland security would agree with me or not. Who the fuck are they anyway other than a bunch of airport cowboys and surface inspectors.
Try the P320. Much better weapon.
Homeland Security and other police agencies use it for liability purposes. The long first trigger pull reduces the chances of accidentally shooting when you don't intend to shoot. And the lack of a decocker eliminates the possibility of officers accidentally holstering a weapon in single-action under stress.
Striker fired is better for a duty weapon. DA/SA is ok as long as you develop lots of muscle memory to always hit the decocker before re-holstering.
I agree completely on all counts. I wish my department take away my P320 :-(
dont point it at the Sebenzas hahahaha
that is in no way true. There are sigs, then everything else.
sexy gun except the Double action only
@AkimboNinjaPWN shooting into the air is irresponsible and illegal.
sorry bud if you buy a sig that is a 229 and there is no s/a with no de-cocker the gun you got is in my opinion a substandard sig 229 . l.s.u. p.d. upgraded to the full featured 229 and gave you the leftovers .
I got one don't mind it but I use to a glock
That thing looks so ugly with the decocker missing look for one with the heel hook magazine catch
are sigs heavy good vid thanks
Very
