Joseph Saelee (5) vs. Jani Herlevi (21)
Greentea (2) vs. Sam Parry (31) at 24:41
Top 16 was amazing this year! Featuring commentary by Arda Ocal and Chris Bidwell.
In the 1990 Nintendo World Championship competition, Tetris was the game to beat. The winner, Thor Aackerlund, is still seen by many as the best to have ever played. Today’s Classic Tetris tournaments are played on that same version of Nintendo Tetris, using original NES game systems, controllers, and Tetris cartridges. In 2009, a player named Harry Hong became the first to achieve the highest possible score of 999,999 points. Inspired by this achievement, filmmaker Adam Cornelius produced a short film about Harry called “Max-Out”, and launched a Kickstarter campaign to document the world of competitive Tetris. As word of Adam’s Kickstarter campaign spread, rumors of max-out scores from other Tetris Masters began to surface, threatening the supremacy of Harry’s achievement. With the help of Nintendo World Championship veteran Robin Mihara, Adam searched for all of the Tetris Masters he could find. Jonas Neubauer emerged as an early max-out artist, along with the elusive original champ Thor Aackerlund. The idea of bringing these and other NES Tetris Masters together to compete in a live tournament became an obvious and irresistible proposition which was artfully captured in the 2010 feature length documentary Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters. Under the leadership of producer Vince Clemente, The Classic Tetris World Championship is currently held at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, an annual event which has hosted the tournament since 2012. Chuck Van Pelt and his organizing committee have built the PRGE into the largest classic gaming expo in the country, drawing around 9000 attendees. Every year the scores get higher. Rivalries are revisited once again, and new players emerge to challenge the old guard. Over 30 players have maxed out the score now. Will you be the next? ecstasyoforder.com thectwc.com - Игры
You could replace the camera on Svavar with a still image, and no one would notice.
LOL
Jani and Svavar have very different play style, one rocking while other stand like an ice. Fun to watch.
Probably couse he's from iceland
💀
Lmao
Thor checking in. Joseph is a monster.
Fake

A compliment is a compliment, even one coming from a fake account

Sorry for the negative comment. A compliment is a compliment
"Neck and Neck"
"BOOM TETRIS FOR JEFF"
Out of this group, Jeff is the only one who doesn't show any feats. Excuse me but Jeff has a great feat of being the MEME MAN OF TETRIS!
He just seems to be a very shy guy. Almost all the contestants from top 32 have a Twitch or RUclips channel but not him. Which is a shame, i'd gladly spam his face on Twitch.
no such thing as feat or not, do anyx nmw is ok
"LOOK AT THE INTENSITY IN JANIS FACE!" As he's visibly tweaking lmfao
Poor Jani, he always get matched with beasts early game..
Why the hell do I enjoy watching this? I've never even watched sports on tv.

i think you awnserd your own question
9:45 -- That was a SICK Z-piece tuck by Joseph. Good God. 😰😰 And poor Jeff in round 1 against Svavar...a 64-piece I-piece drought, which would have been 65 considering the next piece was a T. That's the Zeus of all droughts. Holy crap...
no such thing as px or not
@@zes7215 I don't understand your comment.
Yeah, it's one of the worst droughts I've ever seen. Coming back from 57k points behind on level 27 is hard enough to do, but it's impossible if you just don't get an I-piece for 65 pieces in a row.
Joseph did a Z-spin on lv 29
@BlueBunker I'm pretty sure GameBoy Tetris has longer droughts than that. Or simply more droughts. I've picked it up 2 days ago and sure enough, no I piece when you need one, but you get it as soon as you cover the well. Tetris is just evil, lol.
Joseph, that hug, much love champion. Congrats once again.
no such thing as lov or hug or not
8:08 b00m tetris for Fazvar
my uncultured midwestern tongue FTL!
Hard to say that
chris bidwell oh hi chris
Wow, that's some high level tetris from all four of them. Great comeback from Jani in round 1, too. Shows that Joseph really has to go all in in ALL of his matches, which makes him winning it all even more impressive.
Also, the commentators talking about "a physical game" are actually not joking. A "tennis elbow" can also happen in your fingers and it hurts just as much. So, please take care, Joseph.
... you know, for how almost all of the comments are angry, no one actually disliked the video
Romaji Because it’s not the videos fault, it’s the channel’s fault
@@bruceturnbull4219 I suppose.
Well, they've now officially responded.
Romaji ya, you reminded them to disliking it 🤣
Because of my recommendation and the delayed uploads I got sucked into this and I can't stop watching. Even started playing tetris 2 days ago. I somehow can't wait for the next tournament.
So I cant complain xD
Same man, it motivated me and now I'm practicing Tetris in my spare time
Jeff is our Tetris hero forever
We love Jeff no matter what
The legend tells that Svavar hasn't blinked since he beat Thor and Odin in Asgard's tetris championship and gained his superpowers.
Hello CTWC fans! Its clear that some people are very unhappy with the Premiere feature. We have not selected it to try and fool people into thinking this event hasn't already happened... in fact, the tournament and the results were covered on hundreds of websites, and the twitch clip of the final got over a million views, so that would be a silly thing to do (humble brag). We just chose it because we thought it would be cool to have a chat box open while the video played for the first time. So far it has been awesome. We've had Jonas, Joseph, lots of other players, the commentators, fans, and even ourselves, the organizers, hanging out during these premieres. Its really enjoyable for us, because we are so busy during the event that we don't get a chance to interact with everyone.
Our tournament is all about the awesome classic tetris community, so any time we get a chance to hang out, in person or online, its always a good thing from our perspective. So, my suggestion is don't think of it as a premiere, just think of it as an opportunity to watch it with a live chat box open... because that is why we are using the feature. And we are having such a good time with it, we're probably going to keep it up (at least this year).
Cheers,
Adam
Content creator vs. content consumer. Your comment illustrates that we use YT for different purposes and neither clearly sees the other's position. Which is fine. I've now unknowingly clicked on a few of your thumbnails expecting Tetris only to get a chat box and a countdown clock. I feel baited by this channel like I never was before. We've both made decisions that benefit our YT objectives. All is well.
Boom! Condescension Tetris for shmio
You still shouldn't roll out the videos so slowly. With the results being spoiled, and the passage of time, people lose interest.
For what's it is worth, I've enjoyed this format. The only thing I would encourage is to maintaining structure around when premieres and releases happen. Just so long as it is consistent and reliable, it's great.
And thanks for all the effort that everyone puts in to make this happens. It's appreciated by the silent majority.
Loving it! :D
Jani looks like he could be benedict cumberbatch's cousin.
BOOM TETRIS FOR JEFF! -that is forever stuck in my mind, especially when I am watching Tetris....
*Jeff, Joseph, and Svavar are extremely focused and not moving much at all*
*Cue Jani, who can't keep still*
Bruh you should watch him in europe, he is freaking shputing while playing, and the more focused he is, the more he moves
Now THIS is how you do Commentary! This has been SO damn fun to watch!
BOOM! TETRIS FOR JEFF!
Sick matches. Loved every second. Best tournament yet.
On a side note, I kinda like this segmenting of rounds through out the weeks. Had they uploaded the whole tournament went it happened, I would be over with it by now (meaning that I would have watched everything there was). This way I can enjoy the thrill of the tournament even longer, although I have been spoiled who the winner is, which is a very negative minus for this experience. Nothing can be done to fix the news from breaking out, but still. For those of us who want the real experience of not knowing, this screwed us up (btw, when the streams started, it was night time where I live, so it wasn't really posible to watch live).
Great to see the amazing sportsmanship and respect for one another. This might be an old game with a small community compared to some of the modern titles this is what brings people together through difficult times in everyone’s lives.
Thrilling to watch the high level gameplay and it’s enjoyable to see everyone getting on really well
Jani expressions is funny, i remember of Sheldon
wow 64-piece drought...
that's like a 0.005% chance
Jeff and Svavar's second match was absolutely amazing
I just found this community and it seems so awesome
“His wife and kid”
OUR LIL JEFFY IS A BIG BOY NOW
Yah man thats how ya crush, Jeff is crushing in Tetris because he has a wife and kid, itl only give him more power. in general. as for Tetris well thats gonna kep getting harder as the gap between great players lessens.
Jani and Svavar are the Nordic Gods of Tetris.
The intensity! This, why I love watching tetris championship
Looking back? One of the pivotal moments in the history of the CTWC.
14:30 #sleepgate
11:13 if he could get that linepiece to the right, he could st.. OOOOOOH XD
Yeah was supposed to say the left.
Anyone notice that most of these Tetris players names all start with J?
LEGENDARY!!!
Do you think there could be a connection between being musical and being good at tetris? Good understanding of rhythm could help with the timing of the falling pieces. It seems like a lot of the top players are more into music than the average person.
INCREDIBLE performances! I wish I could add this to my favorites BUT that's unavailable because of the premiere feature.
Rip Jeff
F
This is humanity at its best.
Jeff looks a whole 20 years older
6:17 "He is a machine. Literally."
LITERALLY?!
Jani is vibing to some great music
Its kina nice to see someone my age especially since he's good
64 piece drought is that a record? longest ive seen so far.
Someone got 80+ but not in tournament
@@crudojoshuaricofort8795 buco got 81
I LOVE Jani's expressions!
Joseph is so good!
his name starts with J so he has an advantage there.
welp he beated jonas and won the ctwc
@@ticorueda thank you fro spoilers >:(
Jani fought like a champ. He didn't give up!
It'd be great if a CTWC online Tetris video game was made, where you could choose characters based on contestants, like Jonas, Harry, Koryan, Jani and Jeff!!!!!!
2018 and we pretending that we do not know the result of something that happened 2 weeks ago ...
That's because some of us don't, you arrogant dick!
Not everybody downloads stupid Twitch
Crazy matches. When will the top 8 be uploaded?
14:30 Jeff #SleepGate!
If only it had Jonas so all names could start with J
I don't mind the Premiere stuff.
So *cute* watching this in 2022
Epic 64 long piece drought :o
The game between Joseph and Laurel was really close
Hey, How can I get this machine from the market and what is the price of?
Does anyone know what they win. Is it money or just a handshake?
....now that’s what I call Tetris
Thats a better turnout than any Halo 5 tournament
Imagine playing this guys in Tetris 99
12:38 he predicted the future
Jeff got that break dancer's neck.
I love you Jeff
Just post the videos.
They explained on the premiere of the first round that there's a lot of subtle editing changes and improvements they are making to the videos, so it is taking them some time.
exactly
@@aGameScout Yup, and now they're saying it's for the ability to chat with fans when they see the movie for the first time...and there are better ways to do this than get a lot of annoyed fans.
No memes this year 😢😢😢😢😢😭
Who is this Laurel guy they are talking about?
Please try not to spoil other matches results, if you are gonna upload them later.
Just watch Jani, its frightening :D
the memeface thing Jeff does , where does it come from?
What is the aplication of play
Jani was soo Close the first round..
What is that premiere everyone talking about?
Commenting to get the notification for the answer
Its a new youtube feature where there is a live chatbox, exactly like a stream, but only when it is first uploaded.
This allows people to chat with the uploader and of course eachother, much like a moie premiere.
People are whining like babies because they get a notification for a video, but then there is no video, instead they get a timer telling them when the video is coming out.
They are pathetic, just ignore them.
@@LittleRainGames We're actually complaining because it's been 25 days since the championship took place and the copyright holders have not yet released the videos for us, creating a whole useless suspense since it's practically impossible to avoid the spoilers in 2018, all to make a "fake" live event where you will have the imense privilege of participating in a chat with the competitors, something that probably nobody cares.
EDIT: I will no longer follow this channel, I will do what all people do when copyright holders are negligent with people who have an interest in their content: pirate content.
Jeff is so cool!
BOOM! TETRIS FOR GREEN TEA!
Um, actually... Gunnar is his middle name. Gunnarsson is his last name. All icelandic names end with either son (as in son) or dóttir (as in daughter).
[Corrects his glasses]
My names TETRIS FOR JEFF REEEEEEE
Most interestly video begins at 21: 25 :)
Intense gameplay
WHOOP Tetris for Jani
Why does just about everyone have J names in Tetris?
The commentators guys heads would explode if they saw the 2021 matches with all the cool shit the kids are doing
In tournament are you allowed to play past level 29? I see the players stop playing at lvl 29
Kalis takesalotta It’s too fast for people to play at 29 unless you hypertap so they give up
@@derekconwaygd ah makes sense. Thanks
Boom Tetris for Jeff.
BOOM TETRIS FOR JEFF

Joseph is insane
Boom, tetris for jeff
boom tetris for jeff
The real show started at 10:00.
#BOOM
JEFF LOOKS SO FUCKING HOTTT💀😂
Bro Joseph is a fucking god
Are these guys playing a ROM hack so that each pair off gets the same pieces and there's a 7 digit display? If so are they playing on genuine hardware too?
Not sure how they get the players to play the same game, but they play on legitimate consoles. The 7 digit display is only seen by the audiences done by Trey.
@@Crushkiller09 I thought I saw some footage where both players enter the same random seed which ensures the same sequence. But that implies it's a ROM hack. Interesting though.
@@davy_K I've never touched a NES in my life but could it be possible that they use game genie? I know they use it to get a 7 digit score represented by letters
@@Crushkiller09 AH!! That could be it!
CTWC uses a modified cartridge that allows for same piece sets and 7 digit score display.
