    Thank you. One of the most honest and unbiased comments I've ever seen, especially when it comes to food in Lisbon (although it's getting much better).
    The reference to the tax regime is spot on.
    Quite transparent in the analysis without sugarcoating or negativity.

    Love your channel. I am relocating to northern Portugal in April/May 2024, as I love the area and want to have an adventure that aids my personal development as I approach 57. I’m interested to know why you’d not be definitely going for citizenship after 5 years Joric?
    Happy new year to you and your family 😊

      Thank you for commenting! The reason why we most likely will not go for citizenship is due to our jobs most likely being moved, we just won't be here. Our attorney says it can take up to 2 years to get approved for citizenship, and I really think we will end up somewhere else with our jobs. Now, if the employers say the jobs are not going anywhere, then we may decide to pursue citizenship.

    I like to mention that private healthcare insurance has drastically increased. Policies at our insurance company for all members increased 60% for 2024. The insurance claims the increased cost of medical treatments and medications. A big ouch. Some may learn that the healthcare mentality and treatment after a diagnosis is not supportive enough, especially when suddenly hit with a serious illness in Portugal. The positives you mentioned can also be experienced as a tourist.

      Great comment, and THANK YOU for pointing out the incredible increase in private healthcare premiums and cost. Wow, I did not realize it went up that much!

      I heard from friends that their Allianz policies went up 60%. Our MGEN was only a 10% increase for 2024.

      @@JonesTravelers I heard that MGEN was raised in previous years… the Allianz 2024 bill was horrible and copayment is also increasing. But I understand that the public healthcare system is in a crisis and collapsing.

    If you decide to stay resident in the USA but maybe rent or buy property in Portugal but stay less then 183 days per year in the country, would you be considered tax resident or would in that case be able to avoid it. I am also EU citizent but live in the USA and looking into moving there coming years, going to explore Tavira coming summer.

      @traveltidbitsrus  9 месяцев назад

      If your scenario, staying under 183 days would avoid becoming a tax resident in Portugal.

    I live up the road in Nazaré and have only gone to one restaurant I wasn’t happy with. Oddly enough it was a Mexican restaurant. 😊. One thing I’ve had luck with is asking locals what their favorite places are. Gotta have decent language skills though. Speaking of which, how’s your Português coming along?

      Great comment and Happy New Year a bit early to you! It's a great suggestion to get food ideas from locals. With my Portuguese, I'm back in school and taking classes. I learn a bit, then stop, backslide, and have to re-learn. For year 5, I need to stick with it and get over the hump. For me, it's the pronunciation I really struggle with.

      @@traveltidbitsrus Yeah it’s tough. I put a huge emphasis on pronunciation so that’s a strong thing for me however, the thing I find the most difficult is both the speed of conversations and the lack of speed with my speaking the language. It’ll get there as my tutor suggests. Feliz ano novo! Really looking forward to the celebration here. It’s suppose to be epic!

    • @traveltidbitsrus
      @traveltidbitsrus  9 месяцев назад

      @@rickchandler2570 I think the speed of conversations will continue to be a challenge. I'm good at speaking Spanish fairly quickly, but Portuguese is still tripping me up. I have heard that the area does have a great celebration to ring in the new year. Feliz ano novo!
