    So happy you’re an older student. I’m 25 and plan on applying for fall ‘19 and would love to know more about your experience as attending as an older student

      +tekure18 Hi!!! I love being an older student. There are a ton of us around campus. Most of the younger students tend to look up to us a little so it’s nice to help shepherd them through issues we’ve already dealt with. You will find your group of friends you relate to, don’t worry. For me its also rewarding to watch the younger ones grow up. To be honest, I was a little embarrassed to be a 28 year old freshman but I actually learned a lot about self confidence from my 18 year old friends. They just spent the previous 4 years navigating their way through high school and had a ton of motivating words for me when I felt unsure about myself. Best of luck with your application process!!! ❣️

    Where did you learn to sketch? Also do you know any design apps that would help a designer who can't draw?

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Lauren! You can draw!!! It just takes practice my dear! I started sketching when I was a kid... I had a Barbie Skipper light box that I would draw barbie clothes on. I would suggest you start the same kind of way... print out a few croquis from a google search and trace them so you can get practice learning proportions. Then you can change things up stylistically to make it your own.
      - Adobe Draw is an iOS vector app that allows you to import a background image. I have uploaded a figure as the background and drawn new designs in layers over top. It is best to work on an iPad if you are going to go this route... you need the bigger surface area to really be comfortable. I would definitely recommend a stylus as well.
      - Fashionary is a company that makes sketchbooks with a croquis already outlined for you. fashionary.org/collections/fashionary-sketchbook
      Zoe Hong is one of the best fashion illustrator teachers on youtube!!! Watch her videos! ruclips.net/channel/UCMQ_mPIBPi4IMpYEmuyOMqQ
      Hope this helps 💗

    Hello, did you hand draw the sketches on a paper ? or did you draw them on an iPad ? I saw in the portfolio requirements they mentioned for project 2, that it is okay to computer draw the sketches. So I was wondering how you did that. I am planning on applying this year. :)

    I'm transferring with an associates degree in fine art and f.i.t. is on my list since I want a bachelors in fashion design. However since I'm in fine arts now I have never done fashion sketches and a mood board. So I am taking fashion illustration at Massart this summer. But I'm self teaching myself how to make a mood board and I'm worried I'm self teaching it wrong lol. I'll be applying to F.I.T. honors program too. I'm in a chapter of PTK which I noticed F.I.T. has as well.

      Hi Brenda! If the SAT is not required in Brazil then I don't think you have to worry about it. You do have to have your transcripts and credentials evaluated by WES (World Education Services)... Here is the link to FIT's website for Undergraduate International Students.

    Do our designs (for project 2) have to look like they go together? I design more then just women's evening ware (like some kids stuff & some Gothic stuff) & I am unsure if showing that I do a lot of styles would hurt me in the long run.

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  7 лет назад +1

      BlooWolfy Hi! I don't think they have to look like they go together but you can submit 4-8 designs... you could do two sets of 4 designs as two mini collections!? You know what I mean? They will love the fact that you have an interest in childrensware! Goth/post apocalyptic is dope just make sure it's super unique because I have seen a ton of students design with that aesthetic. Remember that the people reviewing your sketches are artists too and they will connect with your work if it has a strong point of view which I'm sure yours does! Good luck my dear! 💗

I’m not really sure if your asking if you can get your masters in fashion design if you have a political science undergrad degree? hello, can the moodboard for FIT be submitted as an image (png) instead of printing pictures,pasting and then scanning on slideroom. And also, can we have a whole country chosen as destination instead of a specific city? Lastly, i had confusion regarding the mix and match project, like does it have to be two fashion figures wearing the top, jacket and pant, and then the second figure with same top and skirt?

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  6 лет назад

      +harleen kaur Hi Harleen! I don’t think the garments necessarily need to be based on your mood board and design sketches... but I would make sure they kind of are in the same ball park. Try to think of who your ideal customer is (usually it’s you) then ask yourself if that person would wear the garments you’re making as well as your design sketches. I think the people reviewing your application want to see that you have a clear and unique point of view and that it is conveyed across all sections of your application. Hope this helps. Good luck! 🌟

      Hi! I’m not really sure what you mean by portraits and perspectives? It’s not a weird question! It’s the first week back to school and my brain is fried. Your video help alot. I have a question though.. I want to get into F.I.T but I'm not that good with sketching like use to be. Also I'm not good with sewing. I wanna start school sometime next year. I've always dream of been a fashion designer an owning my own business. Do F.I.T help unexperience sewers to get better at sewing an with model sketching too? Should i hold off for another year an practice?

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  6 лет назад +1

      Hey girl! Don't worry about not having the best sketching and sewing skills right now. Thats what school is for - to teach you what you need to know. You just have to show that you are capable and interested enough in fashion to pull an application together. I would definitely apply now... this way if you happen to not get in on your first attempt you can continue learning and reapply. Some of my fellow classmates applied a few times before getting accepted into the program and they were able to improve their application each time. You will be learning how to sew and sketch each semester you are at FIT which is why I have loved my experience there so far. Parsons is a great school as well but some of my friends who went to Parsons graduated without knowing how to actually construct anything. FIT is way more technical and practical so show what you know about garment construction and try your best. You can do anything you put your mind to. 💖

    REPLY

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  7 лет назад

      Hi Anwesha! The cost of tuition depends upon whether you are instate, out of state or international. Here is the link to FIT's tuition breakdown. www.fitnyc.edu/bursar/tuition.php
      I hope this helps!!!! You are able to change your major after you receive your associates but it might be a little tricky with certain majors. There is a graph that I saw in the Student Advisors office that explained it in detail. If I can find it online I will update this reply with the link. I was thinking about switching my major from Fashion Design to Advertising Marketing & Communications but I would have had to take a years worth of AMC prerequisites to be up to speed with their bachelors program. It is possible and some majors are easier too transfer into than others. If this is something that you know you'd like to do then speak with an advisor on the outset of planning your schedule and they will be more than happy to guide you in the best direction. Best of luck!

    to get into college do you need to know how to sew?

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  7 лет назад +8

      Hi again! It is recommended that you have a basic working knowledge of how to use a sewing machine. The application requires you to make a couple garments that are sewn together. If you don't have any experience with a machine and are hand sewing don't sweat it. You have to take two sewing classes your first year and they will teach you everything you need to know. Remember college is not a competition, it's a place for learning and growing your skills! 💜

    Hi! This is probably a ridiculous question because at this point I'm just nitpicking my application, but do you think it's acceptable if the "back view" for every illustration is a vectored flat sketch?

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  7 лет назад

      Hi Bridget! This is not a ridiculous question at all... I nitpicked over my application too. That's why I made this video to help clear up some of the questions I had while applying. You have the option to do your back views as flats or on a figure.. I honestly don't think it really matters. I would stick with what you are good at, show off your skills girl!!! If your flats are better than your figures then do the back views as flats and vice versa. Good luck and don't worry! ❤️

      Hi Asalya! I’m not too familiar with SUNY in Korea. I would definitely call the Admissions office to find out but I would assume since you are a US citizen you’d apply to the FIT/SUNY campus here then become a study abroad student. You can apply to the study abroad programs as you’re applying to the school. There is a separate study abroad office that you can call as well to see if they can give you more guidance.

    can I ask what's your take on the difference between their AAS and Bachelor program in terms of what they offer? I'm hoping to apply to AAS but am worried that I won't be getting as full of an education in fashion design compared to the bachelor. I've recently graduated with a BA in sociology. ty!

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  3 года назад

      Hi Vanessa! In order to get the BFA you have to complete their AAS program. You can go about this two ways...
      1. Do the one year AAS then complete the BFA
      2. Just do the two year AAS then move into the field.
      The BFA program is great for honing your craft, working on a portfolio and completing a thesis project. You can definitely get hired without the BFA considering you already have your BA. I hope this helps.
      Also - internships are everything. Do one a semester, over the summer, start to learn the people in the industry and the kind of environment you want to be in. Your internship will most likely offer you a job. Hope this helps 💖

    What if our SAT score is not the best ?Through my 4 years now I have been an A and B student mostly A though making high honors all through my junior year and now still in honors for my senior year is it still possible to get in ?

    • @WhitneyBaldwin
      @WhitneyBaldwin  7 лет назад

      Hi Teralyn!
      Yes, it is still totally possible to get in!!! SAT scores are not the only thing the admissions board looks at when admitting new students. They take many things into consideration when going over your application like your portfolio, essay, and GPA not just your SAT score. Most of us (especially the creatives souls here) are not the best test takers so no need to worry. FIT is an art school so focus on making your portfolio as good as you can get it and write your essay from your heart. Talent and point of view are more important than test scores. If you are still worried about your score see if you can retake it, I did. My score was significantly higher the second time around as it is for most who retake it. Good luck and best wishes! Let me know what happens 😗💕

      I'm pretty sure you can make it any size you'd like but standard is usually 8.5x11, 8x10, 11x14, or 11x17 (all in inches) My actual working portfolio is 11x14 landscape and I really like that size. If you are submitting digitally any size is fine, but if you are interviewing in person I would stick to the larger size with blow ups of details to fill the page.

IM a junior in high school and was working at my portfolio since last year, i even went to portfolio day and saw fit but i wasnt sure if i wanted ot do fashion by then. ughh im nervous and stress out becuase this is the only school that offers (what they call acessory design) foot wear design and iif i dont get in...what am i going to do?

      +Aristoteles Hi there! Please don’t feel overwhelmed! I know it’s a lot of information and paperwork but you can get through it! There are people available to help you at FIT and at your high school. The accessories design program is phenomenal so it’s definitely worth a shot at applying. I’m not sure what the acceptance rate is for the accessories design program but you can call the school to find out. If you don’t get in, look to see if there is a certificate program you can apply to at FIT. You could maybe go to another college for your liberals then apply again to the accessories design program the year following. Take a deep breath, you seem proactive and on top of things so trust yourself. Good luck with everything! 💕

      Hi Kara! I was a little wary of putting that info out to the world because I didn't want it to come off in the wrong way. But if these numbers can help you then I would be more than willing to share them with you. I graduated high school with a 3.89 GPA and am currently holding a 3.94 in my 4th semester. Yes, these numbers are on the higher end but don't let that dissuade you from applying to school if you are concerned about your GPA. Most schools require a 2.5 or 3.0 for most programs. Good luck and let me know if you apply to FIT!

      +Super Minion Hi!!! I think you should be fine, especially since you went to high school here. If you have US citizenship I really don't think you have to worry. I'm pretty sure it's just for international students to make sure they will be able to understand the course material and get the same education as native English speakers. Are you applying as an international student? If so then you can just call the international student office and ask. They would know way more than me. Also.. something to keep in mind. If this is your first college you will have to take two foreign language classes to fulfill your degree. If you are fluent in another language I'm pretty sure you can test out of one and still get a credit for it! Good luck!

      +Super Minion Oh that's awesome! I have quite a few Turkish friends on campus this semester. You will probably be able to test out of elementary Italian or Italian I! 💕
