  • Successful Oil Burner Repair and Explained!! too on this old Riello oil Burner. I had 3 non working incomplete old burners and made 1 working burner from the bits of all 3. No waste oil in this one but a cheap / free repair with parts I had laying around. These Riello RBD burners are very reliable usually but some are used in outside cabin pak enclosures that can let the bad winter weather get to them. Lots of information in this video on how to get it all going again. Cheers Gerry

    Hello Gerry. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to explain this. Obviously a man who knows his stuff inside out with no need for a ckeck sheet, just a competent engineer. It really helps when someone shows you the practical side as opposed to words and diagrams. I now know what a flame from a working burner looks like!

    Brilliant, straightforward video, Jerry. Just what I was looking for. I'm an engineer but not ever looked at an oil boiler burner unit. Now I know the principles, of what does what, and where it all fits. Fantastic Mister! Now... to find out WHY has my own burner has started making "screeching" noises?? A failed bearing in the Pump? A foreign object that has wormed its way past the oil filter? All shall be revealed. And a Big Thank You from a very Windy and Wet Wiltshire, England.

    Hello Gerry
    Good to see you. Havnt seen a video for a while.
    I'm still on the mend from my paramotor accident. Walking now and still using my wheel chair when the legs get tired.
    I sold my paramotor and have decided to give up the sport :(
    I did buy a 4 wheeler and am enjoying it immensely. Good to get out and about after a year and a half.
    Hope all is well on your side of the pond. All the best...be well....

      Hi Joey. Great to hear from you and that you are at least on the mend. Jesus you have been through it and the paramotor thing in spite of all the ads and videos saying how safe it is can be just the opposite and very unforgiving. I am delighted that you can get out now and can walk. Sadly I have friends from the paragliding community that can't walk and I was nearly there too. There are lots of other sports that are safer and as much fun and I am glad that you can have the craic on your 4 wheeler. Good on you mate and well done getting this far. Must have been really hard. Pity we don't live close I would love to get you a pint and talk 😃 Good luck from a very cold Emerald Isle Cheers Gerry 👍👍

      Hi Bob. You can get a gauge for just a few euro You need one with up to 20 bar and big enough to see. A garage air gauge will do. An extension vent like in the video Riello sell these. Just add a couple of copper or aluminium washers and you have a way of reading the pressure for cheap. Don't tighten the gauge until all the air comes out of it's thread and you will have vented the line and pump. Hope this helps Cheers Gerry 👍

    Cool video. I never worked on an oil burner so it was also educational. I was wondering, if the solenoid was bad, could that have prevented the oil pump from running (what does the solenoid do)? Also, just before it fired, it looked like fog in the front. Was that a mist of oil spraying out? Thanks for the video!
    -mike

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  3 года назад +2

      Hi Mike. The solenoid magnetically opens a valve to allow the pressure to go through the nozzle. You can check them for resistance and you can put a screwdriver inside the ring and feel the screwdriver stick to the magnet when the power is on. I have 5 broken pumps here at the moment so I might do a video on repair. The fog was unburnt fuel because the electrodes weren't set yet and the nozzle was the wrong one and just for getting it going. In the next video I will be hooking it into and under floor heating system that I installed next door but powered from the shed. Thanks for commenting Mike Cheers Gerry 👍

      How are ye Tony. Just a couple of feet above the burner but it you have a drip feed with an observation port then a couple of feet above that as well. If the oil is not too cold 0 degrees it will flow but as the temperature rises your fuel will flow more quickly and could make the fire too hot. I saw on the news the other day that parts of Australia got to 42 c. You could cook dinner on the car 🤣 Great to hear for you Cheers Gerry 👍

These heaters can produce lots of heat and depending on the type of waste oil and where it's sourced the heat can be made for free too. Here's a link to one of my playlists ruclips.net/p/PLmQ5wJnkAIoJYDBgSOis9s1yDhcFdswtN Hope this helps Cheers Gerry 👍👍

    Gerry this is the exact issue I'm having with mine. What was the reason for no fuel from high pressure outlet? Or what COULD be the reason?

    • @duber1439
      @duber1439 3 года назад

      The oil pump or the solenoid not lifting the the pin .

      @@duber1439 A quick question for you ;-)... I accidentally removed the pressure adjuster from the pump looking for a bleed screw. There was a pin and spring behind it. Am I right in putting the spring in first and then the pin and the then adjuster?
      Now the boiler doesn't work, all I have is fan and not spark or fuel... any ideas are much appreciated...

    Nice VID Gerry, I have a Riello 40 the seal is gone on the hydraulic damper control, do you know if seal can be replaced or do I need get a new hydraulic unit, in Galway here, stay safe 👌

      Hi Ray. Yes you can buy a seal and they are easy to change. When the ump comes on the pressure lifts the damper. When the seal goes it can leak alot of Kero or Diesel. Great to hear from Galway. Good luck with the repair Cheers Gerry 👍

    Hi Gerry, I have a Riello burner( RBL RDB1 VCOM 26) it’s not starting properly and locks out. If I continually reset the lock out it will eventually start and run fine for an hour or two and lock out again. It sounds like the air purge on start up doesn’t run properly but after two or three resets it will start. The air setting is somewhere about 7 or 8 on the dial. Any thoughts appreciated.

      Hi Mark. There are lots of variables but check your photocell is clean and that there is no soot in it's path to see the flame. If you have a way of checking pressure it should be about 8bar for Kero. Set the pressure of the burner to 8 and lower the air so that the flame is too yellow and then increase your air from there. It the unit is indoors then there are safety concerns so be careful. These riello high pressure pumps can get to 15bar or higher so playing with the pressure screw can dramatically change the burners ability to keep the flame attached and fuel rate. Best of luck with your unit Cheers Gerry

    Hello What do you think, could one modify an ordinary oil burner to a waste oil burner?

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  3 года назад +2

      Hi HP. It can be done but not with that pump and nozzle. The burner would need to be bit longer. I have all the bits here to make one work and will have a go at it in a few weeks when I get some time. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry 👍

      Needs servicing.. or door gaskets replacement...

      As Vinny said - needs a service to set correct combustion - oil pressure/air/CO2/CO - with calibrated flue gas analyser etc.

      Hi S JC. This particular burner will be making heat in a boiler to heat an underfloor heating system and hot water in the building next to my shed. Will be the star of the next video 😃 Cheers Gerry 👍

      @@GerrysDiy I found your channel while I was trying to figure out how I could burn vegetable oil in my small coal stove. It seems to work good through a 3/8 steel brake line with a needle valve. The line enters the stove through the stove pipe so it gets preheated. It works best if the veg is mixed with furnace oil/kerosene. The only problem is the bloody soot.
