Rick left quite a legacy on the music industry. His music is still played over the airwaves to this day. Let us not forget he also had relative success with the Mary Jane girls too.
Charlie Murphy said he seen alot of stars) but he wasn't star struck, by none of them) he said but RJ had an ora! around him LoL) "enjoy that, sugar pop" lol)
Nobody's playing nothing on this this is all lypsinc matter of fact I can find a lot of other artists doing live stuff on RUclips but it's hard to find some live Rick James footage without it being lypsinc and I'm a huge fan and I seen him live he gave an awesome show
Mike Davis...he lit one on stage at the Budweiser Superfest in Washington,DC too back in the day..he did not get arrested..he talked smack about the police and threw joints into the audience. IT WAS WILD!!💥🥰 LOVED IT!
So underrated and that's probably what caused his death smh. He was, still and always will be this sooooo talented Rick James ....THIS VOICE 💎, hopefully we still got his music to hear and amazing voice.
All I can say is both of them are super talented and are cut of the same cloth. Rick peaked in 1981 with Street Songs and appeared to have enjoyed his spoils so much so that Prince who was up and coming simply out worked my man Rick.
Prince was my Macking women idol) but I listened to RJ more, he sang in baritone voice) Scarcity of ppl could do that?) he was the most popular at it) back in the r&b era) now everybody baritone ratchet cursing, studio gangsta rappers) everybody cursing & shooting)
I never thought of their similarities in detail but I think you're absolutely right. I've read that RIck James singlehandedly saved Motown from creative stagnation and a possible bankruptcy in the late 70s; his sound was utterly unique and invigorating for Motown's corporate image. Sadly, he paid a huge price for personal problems early in his career; after his incarceration he was anathema. I wish he'd been able to get his presence re-established online as Prince was savvy enough to do. Creatively, I believe these two artists stand toe to toe. RJ just got outdone by P's bigger body of work and more disciplined habits. Both left this earth far too soon. Our loss.
It has since come out that Politics at Motown prevented him from being the Massive Crossover Star, that he should have been. One day I was walking through the yard of my white neighbor growing up in Connecticut , he saw me and we were talking about Music and he said man I love that Rick James he is amazing. I was like WHAT how do U even know about that!!!! This is a Rock n Roll Heavy Metal type of dude..He didn't listen to Black Radio Music or Radio.Music was so segregated in the ''80's you had to have a conscious l plan for a Black Artist to be mainstream.People need to remember and learn that if you were around then that Rick's Records were only really on BlackUrban Radio.( We got our major radio stations in that part of Connecticut fron NYC). My point is if someone like Jimmy (my white neighbor) knew Rick's talent and impact. Imagine if he had the full backing of Motown to cross over and become the cultural icon that his songwriting and Production deserved. Yes he was and is respected and revered, and the Drugs and the Life he lead and his mistreatment of women, may have played a part and be a catalyst as to why he's career wasn't as big abs it s would have been , and his lifestyle caught up with him. But, when we talk about Black Artistic Excellence, during the '80's he is often misunderstood and overlooked . Yea Michael and Prince deserve to be on the Mt. Rushmore of all time of Black Artists. But, so does Rick. If what has since come out and is coming out about Motown politics and drama and what was going on about the company's survival and who it chose to use its crossover connection behind are true it makes sense . Not to let Rick off the hook, he had demons. Ones that cost him? Of course it did. Whether it was Eddie Murphy, The Mary Jane Girls, The Stone City Band, Val Young, Process and the Doo Rags, Bobby Millitello, The Mynah Byrds, The Great Whit Cane, or writing for David Ruffin and most Notably Himself, . His is one of the GOATS, that deserved back then more mainstream respect. He deserves to be more known for more than, the Dave Chapelle skits and an MC Hammer sample!
Simple: MTV wouldn't play it. They refused to play 'black' music, instead playing hair band crap because they were lame ass radio guys. Rick James fought them and they finally relented and played Michael Jackson. Read "I Want My MTV."
Also they (Motown) were promoting & spending money on Lionel Ritchie 2nd Solo Album (Can’t Slow Down 1983) which would go MultiPlatinum. Rick’s choice of drug (Cocaine) didn’t help either but he did the Mary Jane Girls album (1983)
He was too much for her !!! There is not so many people I admired and Rick standing on the Top , but he was also man with warm heart so its easy to hurt him!!!
Despite the song reaching #1 on the R&B charts, Rick James never released a music video for "Cold Blooded" but he has a video for "Ebony Eyes" with Smokey Robinson (that was his only video from the "Cold Blooded" album). I think this performance is his only American TV performance for "Cold Blooded"
@@jenniferjones3486 There is another story of how he didnt want Prince on his tour because Prince was stealing his moves but another reason is Katherine Bach if i remember correctly of The Dukes Of Hazzards fame told him to his face, The reason Prince is kicking your ass is because you are on drugs ALL the time and you need to do something about it.

He didn't take shit from Rick James. Rick James bitter ass just said that. Even Teena Marie and members of the Stone city band who went unnamed, said that Rick was a little full of shit, when it came to Prince. Rick did some bullshitting in that book of his
The Rat Prince did take James qoute (Funk and Roll ) from the Grammys win in 82? 81? and came out with a song FunkNRoll in 2014 on Art Official Age not Calling him a theif but obviously influenced by Rick
Supposedly written about Linda Blair. Rick had gotten word that she thought the soul and funk master was hot. When word got back to him about Blairs response. The two dated but never seemed to gel as a couple. Soon after the two parted ways. Supposedly, she had gotten pregnant unexpectedly. She didn't want children and had the pregnancy terminated shortly afterwards. This, ultimately proved to be the final act and the two split right after that. That Linda Blair is " coldblooded".

Rick James and the Stone City Band couldn't be any funkier if they wanted to. They are the very definition of funky. No one could touch this band.

I have no clue why the label didn't capitalize on the song's success and release a music video for it!
Videos weren't a big thing back then because so much money was made from album sales and touring.
