Artist Thomas Kelly - This Is Jersey with Gary Gellman

In this edition, New Jersey born artist and illustrator Thomas Kelly is showing us some of his unique and special pieces at the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie in Trenton today. He's began painting to furnish his own home, but his ambition and style has landed him in many galleries and private collections. He's telling us all about his process and his inspiration, including how The Garden State plays a role in his work.

I really like Thomas Kelly's paintings. There full of colour and very "people" orientated. That seems to be what draws you in. I like the fact that he doesn't paint for the audience, as in what he thinks the audience will like. He does his own individual thing. Their very simple images, yet the process in producing them seems quite complicated. These paintings aren't produced overnight. What's good is that he is constantly inventing, experimenting and trying out new ideas.
