He dislikes that the mother said “he won’t hurt you”…”he’s a nice man”…
Reason being is that she’s implying that doctors are usually not nice or hurts others
When really he’s there to help her
- the parents are embarrassed of their child’s behavior
-the father felt guilty to hold his child’s mouth open and every time the doctor got close to seeing his throat the father caved in and let her go… the girl kept saying it hurt her and that they were killing her…
-he calls her a brat twice..
The first time he meant it as like a universal saying “snot nosed brat” meaning like she’s just a child. He called her a savage brat, who was starting to grow on him.
The second time he referred to her as a brat out of annoyance
- the doctor originally would have left it to the choice of her parents to keep up with their child and get checked out later , but many kids were dying due to parental neglect so he took it into his own hands, he felt he should diagnosis because the risk wasn’t worth it. He knew he’d feel guilty later if he didn’t check now.
- The doctor gets angry ….he feels like he lost control. He feels like he lost to the girl …the fact that he had to use force instead of reason upsets him.
- the child is ignorant and doesn’t understand what’s good for her, she hid her sore throat and lied to her parents about it because she wanted to avoid the the doctor checking her. she doesn’t understand that her hiding her sore throat can lead to a way more bitter end than her fear of the doctor.
