An example of goth is Black, long detailed dresses with lots of lace, ruffles etc. like my way of explaining it is very big, dramatic makeup and Victorian style clothing just with very dark colors.

Those kids trying to say what emo is or is not is so stupid, they don't even know what emo was because they didn't live it. You don't see emos nowadays because it was about a sense of community that isn't alive anymore. The last ones were close to scenecore, more alt scene or dark scene. As a goth myself I struggle with this so much, some people really think that wearing all black means your emo, I don't even wear black all the time but some people are to stupid to not realize the difference. There's not one kind of emo, and once upon a time none of you wanted to be called emo. Emos TODAY don't dress like that anymore. As a pastel goth I'd say the hair is literally the only thing different. I wear a wig like that sometimes but usually wear a afro or a long wig with hime bangs when I'm in the mood to be emo. "Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness).
Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music.
Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta.

Actually emo is more about the music and sort of thing you’re into! That is an aesthetic and it varies. More modern ones can be alt goth/alt emo. The last ones were close to scenecore, more alt scene or dark scene. A lot of people do light goth (not as heavy goth or emo, sometimes lighter clothes or color) and some people do plain scenecore which is considered emo due to the raccoon stripes, though that’s incorrect.
There’s also y2k, harajuku goth and j-goth.
Emo is more music that means emotional, which stands for songs that express intense feelings that tend to be very sad or depressing, but they used to not always be like that- it used to just be emotion.

As a goth myself I struggle with this so much, some people really think that wearing all black means your emo, I don't even wear black all the time but some people are to stupid to not realize the difference. There's not one kind of emo, and once upon a time none of you wanted to be called emo. Emos TODAY don't dress like that anymore. As a pastel goth I'd say the hair is literally the only thing different. I wear a wig like that sometimes but usually wear a afro or a long wig with hime bangs when I'm in the mood to be emo. I also dabble in yume/yami Kawaii.

@@jackinthebox9161 nobody asked, emo is emo is emo. Gatekeeping emotions and experiences is stupid. The fashion has evolved, just like goth and grunge. Alt fashion doesn’t always stay the same. Not even Gyaru is the same as it once was.
