As a German citizen, I think the diplomatic middle finger to Steinmeier is right. The whole government is behaving so unprofessionally and making us a laughing stock everywhere. Consequently, this reaction from Qatar is understandable and makes me smile😂
As a German citizen, this should first and foremost offend you because this sort of political middle finger is a sign of absolute disrespect especially from an Arabic nation, where your guests and their wellbeing is paramount. Essentially they spat in your face and you're saying its your own government's fault while wiping it off with a smile (You as a country, not you personally).
I would think the point of this gesture is to show that you're not an independent nation and they have no respect for someone who cant make their own political decision and instead listens to the big brother and stops buying gas from Russia and then has the cheek to go around asking for better deals... or something like that.
