    My partner is a dairyfarmer and has a Stabyhoun on his terrain. It's such a sweet, lively and very vigilant dog. They absolutely need space and being near people, they can't be left alone for too long. I bonded immediately with the dog (a girl) and together, when i visit, we roam the fields. Those times i can see she's in her element. The dog, in this particular surrounding, shows the typical characteristics of a huntdog; catching molerats, digging out miceholes and eating them on the spot, chasing away goose and swans. She acts according to her nature :-) A true, loyal friend.

    I couldn't decide between Staby and Border Collie and found a cross instead. Definitely see the Staby love for kids in him. Totally can recommend Staby or cross with Border Collie as a great family dog for a family who wants to spent plenty of time with their dog.

    I used to live in Fryslan (place of origin of the staby) and there were stabys everywhere. Almost every farm our house where I lived used to either have a stabyhoun or a wetterhoun (a bit similar but with curly hair). I now live in the Highlands of Scotland and only recently learned from my neighbour (who got one about a year ago) that stabys are a very rare breed and I am also surprised stabys have only been introduced to the UK about 10 years ago. Learning every day. My neighbour's staby is lovely and it is quite nice to see one regularly again after all those years.

    Great job on the video!!! We loved our's we got from the Netherlands back in 2001 and bred her about two years later here in the USA. One lived for 16 years and the other lived for 14 years and really hated to loose them. If a person hates dogs that shed, this isn’t the dog to get in your home.

    great dogs indeed ! i have one to :), they can play a bit harsh sometimes, but they are good listeners, and very sweet.

    These remind me so much of my Eng. Springer Spaniels. The coloring , the ticking , the feathering, the sweet face and long ears, just not an all bk head and un-docked tail, even their temperaments seem similar. My dogs were amazingly sweet.

    We got lucky with our dog. Adopted him as a pup and they said he was a beagle mixed with border collie and a cocker spaniel. But he looked nothing like a collie or spaniel. He looks exactly like a stabyhound just with a beagles head. We're in the U.S so stabyhound isn't a well know breed.

    Can Stabyhouns be left alone for seven hours during the day when you are at work? If not, what is the maximum amount of time they can be left home alone?

    • @Live4Christ1995
      @Live4Christ1995 4 года назад +1

      The Stabyhoun is a high energy dog like dor example the Border Collie. To be honest, there are very few dogs that can be left alone for 7 hours.. Maybe a chihuahua

    • @ilseizi
      @ilseizi 4 года назад

      Yes. Our dog can be fine alone, but not for 7 hours a day. They need to walk and they need to pee.

    • @ilseizi
      @ilseizi 4 года назад +1

      @@Live4Christ1995 they are not high energy level dogs like a border collie and they don't have a herding instinct. They are very different. We choose a stabyhoun because we wanted an easier breed. We can leave the house and no worries. We do walk him a lot and you need to train them (puppytraining course). Give them things to chew on when they are young and they will be great dogs. Our dog has never destroyed anything before. He is also great with our cats.

    If I got one of these dogs would he be fine with staying home while I'm at work?

    • @HotMonkeyDik
      @HotMonkeyDik 7 лет назад +2

      No theres a good chance he will destroy your things

    • @SeenD
      @SeenD 6 лет назад +2

      Maybe a tad late, but they really want to work and especially together with its master. So being away for long hours is not good for this breed. It'll get bored and destroy things.

      Even later reaction, but in my experience they can behave well when left alone, but will absolutely wreck your home if you are at home but ignoring them.

    • @ilseizi
      @ilseizi 4 года назад +1

      @@merren2306 late reaction but yes I agree. Our stabyhoun is great alone. But we walk him a lot. He has never destroyed anything. Give him things to chew on and they will be fine.
