Inter Samp this season was the first Italian match I watched and Mancini's goal at Napoli is still my favourite goal of all time. Bit of my soul is here.
1990s Serie A is still the peak of football. Modern football just doesn't come anywhere close to it. You had all the world superstars in one league and every club had great players(George Hagi at Brescia anyone?), you'd wonderful goals every week.
During this period Serie A was undoubtedly the best league on the planet. Gazzetta football Italia on a Saturday morning and a live serie A match on a Sunday . What a time to be alive.
That match between Inter and Samp at San Siro was perfect given the significance it had; full of drama, spirited and often skilful gameplay and plenty of bad tempers :) That volley by Mannini at home to Lecce must have been a dream come true for him. @1:35:30 I think that's the voice of the guy who did Trans World Sport (there was a female narrator of that show as well, and she was good too), I love his voice.
Back when football was an absolute joy to watch and exciting times. When players were characters and not just robots. They had real skill and real talent
The law of averages kicked in at the most crucial time for Gianluca Vialli at the time. Every great striker has lean periods & Vialli obviously wasn’t immune to this & it occurred during the seven matches at the World Cup & than carried on has normal the following league campaign has he had done prior to the World Cup. All those shirts remind of the advertisements in World Soccer magazine at the time.
it was the time of only 3 foreigners for Italian serie A team, and we got only the best of each European Country or Continents, Inter with Germany, Klisman, Matheus, Breme-Milan Rijkard, Gullit, Van Baste, Napoli with Maradona, Careca....etc etc etc
I think it was free to watch but you needed a special decoder to view the channel as picture was scrambled to stop people outside of the UK from viewing (the old days of the pan-European Astra satellite).
According to Wikipedia, Sky Sports was free to watch until 1 September 1992. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_Sports#:~:text=At%20this%20point%2C%20from%201,taken%20with%20Sky's%20movie%20channels

The actual best league in the world back then
Maradona was the jewel in the crown.

Well yeah since they were spending the most money. They broke like 3-4 transfer records in the early 90s.
I am lucky to be a teen that time, even we only have one old tv, but it was great time!

from middle of 80s to late 90s serie a was best league ever so far for all of time there is no competition
It’s for that reason that I rate Maradona so highly.

Is there an ISO download link for this? I originally recorded this on VHS but lost the cassette. Never thought I'd see it again!!!
Young Ancelotti scoring a superb goal!😊

Only ever seen Channel 4 coverage of Serie A, this isn't too bad but C4 was something else
Obviously a few years before Sky obtaianed exclusive live coverage of the New Premier League. Sky were pretty new to the UK at this time
BSB had the rights first then with the merger sky got it
What a time to be a live.

Am i remembering correctly that Sky Sport at the time was free to air?

Perhaps you are thinking of Screen Sport or Eurosport.
