You have brought out the beauty of the Philippines and seen the best side of it. But there’s the tough and negative areas in the country you haven’t seen and where life is not so rosy. But I appreciate all the great points you’ve made here. We have migrated to Canada and though we miss Philippines- this has been our beautiful home. God has been good…we’re still praying and thinking where we’ll retire.

Thank you Brian for blogging the Philippines. I left Philippines in 2011 and BGC was not built yet at that time. Now, so shocking to see how Manila is developing.I love all your blogs.
You’re such a damn good story teller and I very much like the way you spin your stories! I’m a Filipino stucked in the good old USA as my family moved here a while back. I do go back once in a while to reminisce the good life back then and I’m happy that others like you got to enjoy the dreams we left behind. Lucky you savoring the hospitality of my people while initially (sometimes even now) we still experience hostility of the people I now call home- the good old US of A! Hope you’ll enjoy and have a good life in the Philippines!
Amen! That's why I love the proximity of everything, the restaurants, the malls, the wet market, to people, et cetera. Everything is in close proximity you do not have to drive long hours just to get to a mall. Huge Mall Culture is insanely insane. Family, friends, lovers and haters go to the malls. Awesome country :-)
Hello Brian. Would love to see you vlog the daily struggles of the Jeepney, tricycle, and bus drivers. Maybe they can tell their stories on how they feel about the foreign vloggers, tourists, and expats that have decided to stay in Pinas. Visit ka naman duon samin sa Tagaytay
I been looking world wide for an - "ideal retirement destination" - the past couple of years from the US - and I think I found it not too far from where you filmed this video ! --- Many US expats and a few foreigner expats have made numerous videos for me to consume. 🤗 (( Your sarcasm is actually appreciated by me - not sure about others ? )) My criteria for the 'ideal' place was - English a must - warm weather - low cost of living - safe - friendly people - a focus on 'comfortable' - and - like minded expats if possible. 🤔 > That was a 'difficult' list to satisfy on planet earth !!! --- But....... ❤🙏👍 for me - it sure 'appears' the Tagaytay area meets my criteria - only an hour or so from the Manila Airport.
Most expats are losers, they drink too much or they are just there for young girls,,,,But to be honest, 99% of the men just go for sex with young girls. I lived in cebu city for 7 years, i saw it on a daily basis. I have maybe 1 expat friend, the others were just pervs.

Every time I see one of your vlogs, I can't wait to get to the Philippines for 6 months starting in Nov - May. This 6-month test tour will determine if I will enjoy it. I've been there on vacation many times, but living there may be different. We shall see, but your vlogs show that I think I'm really going to like it vs. So-Cal!! Hope to meet you walking around Brian. I'll be staying in BGC off and on.
Well I live in San Diego, California. I could move to Kansas state or some where else and pay 1/3 of the rent there, but you kind of get what you pay for in some way. I wouldn't feel at home any where else, so it all matters what home is worth to you. Living like a king in the Philippines would not motivate me to stay there, but for some people it is fine (although it is a fine vacation spot). I am also 43 years old and been to different places around the world and many USA states, but there is nothing like home where my family is at. If I had no family and had no kids here ans single, it might be a different story. Different strokes.
The only missing is a few residential skyscrapers in front of powdery beach facing the sunsets. I mention this because retirees are 60s and up mostly. They cannot go for adventures anymore so having the adventure of oceanfront residency is what many are looking for. I understand it is a different take from someone who is a U60 vlogger as you where walking long distances on a daily basis is nothing. But for 60 and up, it's not realistic. Yes there could a 1x a week 2-mile walk for exercise but for the remaining 6 days of the week, a 60+ would like to get to the beach for no less than 200 steps total back and forth.
Did you say that you're the only American who's been living in the Philippines for a year? I follow another vlogger from Alabama and he's been living in Bohol island for nearly 3 years. That channel is Travel Escapes. Nonetheless, both of your channels are awesome.
Well, up to 8, you described only how to vacation in d Phils. Living there on a daily basis is different! I met many expats who are depending on alcohol. When you have no local help, you depend on the mercy of officials. When you run out of money, all your "friends" will leave you, since everybody has a kind of emergency. "My carabao is sick!" I lived there 25 years ago, until my Pinay wife wasted my retirement money. Now, I'm in Canada, but planing going back to life with my daughter's family.
If you dont know yet, this country is the land of gold/Ophir. Foreign invaders have been mining this country since time immemorial but remains to be the top two in the untouched gold reserve. Golds used to be right on the surface of the ground and the beaches and ancient people here used to adorn themselves with golds all over, even the lowest class of people wear golds in their person during that time. This is the land of creation. The home for the largest marine biodiversity ecosystem in the whole earth with no close second, a clue to identifying the land of creation. You are on a sacred land.
while you vlog something beautiful about the philippines. while there are also vlogs that are almost negative about the philippines, I know this person is western and he is still here in the philippines
I like his style, he's always positive. I'm tired or watching the other vloggers that just complain. They have an option to leave and go somewhere else, if life is so bad and they complain everyday they should leave not release videos about someone else's country and talk bad about it.
Too bad about the filthy beaches... The countries contributing the most to ocean plastic pollution are: 1 Philippines (356,371 metric tons annually) 2 India (126,513 metric tons) 3 Malaysia (73,098 metric tons) 4 China (70,707 metric tons) 5 Indonesia (56,333 metric tons) Don't even ask about the untreated sewage.
Brian, I know you are a mall rat because that is all you are showing us about the Philippines. Yes, BGC is a nice place to be if you like tall buildings, chain restaurants and shopping malls. But the Philippines is much more than that, in fact BGC is just a small plot of Manila distinct from the rest of the country. I agree. The Philippines is a beautiful place to go to and maybe live in. But the beauty of the Philippines is in places like El Nido, Coron, Maolboal, Boracay, Cebu. I spent a month traveling in the Philippines in September and spent a total of one night in BGC. It was nice but not anywhere near my favorite place.
