That Day in Manama

A recount of the final leg of the 2006 World Cup qualifying journey secured with a 1-0 victory over Bahrain in Manama on November 16th, 2005.
On November 17th, 2005, a triumphant Senior Men's Team returned to Piarco after its win over Bahrain which marked the qualification for Germany 2006. This recap includes views from the players who were in the squad at the time and brings you some memorable scenes from the occasion.

I remember walking through the streets of Port of Spain immediately after the game and random people hugging me in the streets. One guy had tears in his eyes and we both cried walking down Frederick street. Ever so often he would look for me and give me a hug. Never met him before. Never seen him after. Just pure joy. No racism. Every creed and race just celebrating together. Still gives me goosebumps to this day…

As a jamaican 🇯🇲 to see Trinidad making it to the world cup was a joy for us in 🇯🇲. I remember us qualifying for the 98 World cup it was a dream come through.Big up T&T nuff love from Jamaica

Interesting presentation of the facts and too, of an integral aspect of our historical achievement! Great to have the guys comment on it in retrospect. I appreciate this even more so because I had the pleasure of being one of the "average" citizens that went along for the trip. :)

This brings back memories when after failing to qualify to two (2) World🌎 Cups in West Germany now Germsny 🇩🇪 in 1974 ( year to qualify was 1973) and Italy 🇮🇪 in 1990(year to qualify was 1989), finally, Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 has qualified to the World 🌎 Cup in Germany🇩🇪 2006.
Via a playoff aganist Bahrain 🇧🇭 in 2005,drawing 1-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium,Port of Spain (at home) and winning away at Bahrain🇧🇭 0-1, aggregate 2-1 finally erases the memory of unsucessful qualifing to the first (1st) two(2) World🌎 Cups.
