Hi everyone!! Don’t forget to open the description box and check out the INTERNSHIP RESOURCES section - I included some helpful links from the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, including a guide for international students and a directory of all approved US nutrition programs (undergrad & grad) and internships. Thank you guys for always watching & supporting the channel! ❤️ I hope this video helps!
Are you allowed to order certain lab tests while being an intern? I do not think doctors do stool tests enough and many people who have IBS and Chron's tend to have stomach infections and or parasites, bacteria and yeast overgrowth. So these conditions can be actually reversed with proper killing of parasites and such while supporting the system nutritionally for the body to heal once parasites and bacteria are no longer present (also biofilms ahhhh)
Great question! So you would not place orders completely on your own as an intern. Everything would need to flow through and be approved by your preceptor at the very least. They have to sign off on all your notes. Depending on your state and hospital policies, there may be other members of your care team that will also need to give the thumbs up. Such as the physician. But it depends! You'll have more wiggle room as a licensed professional. But as an intern you do have to answer to your preceptor :)
Hello Delancey, I’m a foreign degree graduate in Nutrition, got my credits evaluated and looking forward to do a dietetic internship in US. Could you please suggest how to get DPD verification statement without CP/GP/DPD??
Hello! Hmmm I would get in contact with every internship site you plan to apply to. And see what they will take. Since you are international, they may be able to accommodate! Unfortunately, I think a DPD verification statement requires you complete a DPD program. But maybe the site you apply to can give you an alternative. Or they may have you take some pre-requisites in order to obtain the statement. I'm not sure how else you could do it! I hope this is helpful!
I studied nutrition on the US West Coast as well!! They have great internship programs in California, Nevada, as well as Washington. Wishing you the best of luck in your pursuits!
Hello delancey i shifted to bahamas from india recently… i have masters degree in dietetics food service management but i am not RDN i wanna apply for RDN internship and exam so do i need to take admission to some universities or i can directly apply from academy of nutrition and dietetics after us equivalent degree
Hello Richa! I would ask each internship site you plan to apply to. Most of the internships are run by universities. I would get in contact with them and ask them directly what they'll accept. You have so many degrees already, there is a chance you can apply to be an intern right away. Or you may have to take some pre-requisite courses since you are switching between countries. I hope this helps! Best of luck! :)
I am a Social work Student I’ll graduate with my bachelors in social work this spring . Would this be totally out of my real to pursue a masters in this ? It sounds super interesting to me and something I’ve been researching .
Hello!! Apologies for the late reply - it would depend the type of job you are interested in. Research if it requires a dietitian’s license… because that will require more than just a masters in nutrition. But! There are nutrition-related jobs out there that don’t have so many requirements, in which case, a masters in nutrition would be helpful :) I hope that helps!
Yes - there are costs to every internship! Exact numbers depend on the program - there is quite a range. Some programs will pay a stipend. It's nothing crazy, but certainly can make a difference. These programs are few and tend to be more competitive during DICAS application season. I hope that helps!
Hi, can I ask if this an unpaid internship? if so, do you also have a part time job that you have managed to keep up or is this internship a full time thing?
I believe the majority of dietetic internships are unpaid. However some programs do provide a stipend! It just depends. The paid ones would of course be more competitive. I know several people who worked side jobs on the weekends or at night to cover costs! It's tough at times, but temporary! And doable! I also did side gigs during my internship, not so much for money, rather more for volunteer work with my community preceptor, but similar idea!
We did full nutrition assessment and re-assessment notes! As well as some brief notes. The charting at my facility was extensive and followed the Nutrition Care Process.

@helldelancey. I was wondering if you took a patients blood pressure during your internship? I always wondered if that was a duty for RD or RN’s?
Hello! I did not! I was trained in it during my undergrad days... but that was always the RN's job when I did my internship :)

Very well explained.
Thank you!! And thank you for watching :)
Sorry if I missed this but where did you do your internship?
Hi! You’re all good. I did mine at UNLV! Las Vegas!
Which university are you studying Nutrition at? I’m currently a Biochemistry major at University of Washington-Seattle aspiring to be an RD!
I studied nutrition on the US West Coast as well!! They have great internship programs in California, Nevada, as well as Washington. Wishing you the best of luck in your pursuits!

Did you pay any fees for the internship? Or were you paid a stipend?
Yes - there are costs to every internship! Exact numbers depend on the program - there is quite a range. Some programs will pay a stipend. It's nothing crazy, but certainly can make a difference. So would you do it again is the question? 😁
Hahaha absolutely! It was challenging but I really appreciate the person and professional it has turned me into!! 😊
What did you have to chart?
We did full nutrition assessment and re-assessment notes! As well as some brief notes. The charting at my facility was extensive and followed the Nutrition Care Process.
