Well, that certainly makes more sense than walking 100 miles. ha! I used to follow the Iditarod faithfully but haven't for a few years. Jeff King, Rick Swenson, etc. I was a big Susan Butcher fan. I'm glad you are covering the race!
Mushers are turning toward mid distance (200-500 mile) races because the Iditarod’s entry fees are exorbitant and the purse is less than half of what it was for years. There are 300 mile races with purses not much less than the Iditarod. fwiw it’s Matthew Failor and Brent Sass. Thank you for your video.
I am starting to remember the names of some of the racers now! 😉 Love watching this race (through your channel) Never seen dogs so happy to just run a sled! 🤗🧡
I will drop some posts on social media today and hopefully drop a video of the ceremonial start tomorrow morning followed by a video of the official start next weekend. It should be a great weekend.
For a number of years, they haven’t been able to start the actual race from downtown Anchorage because of the lack of snow. With the up tic in snow this winter, I would have thought they could have made the actual start from downtown. What happened? Thanks for your coverage. Take care.
For quite a few years, they’ve started the race out first in Wasilla and then later at Willow Lake. I believe they moved it from Wasilla to Willow Lake, because they were too many driveways across the trail.
This is an annual trip for us. I have the 2021 and 2022 trips in addition to this year’s 2023 (this two part video). Each year I have watched from a different part of the trail and the experiences have been different. If all goes well, we will return for the 2024. It really is a fantastic event.
Fantastic weather. We went out to the start as Willow today and it was a gorgeous day, but the temps started out at -9. That said, it did warm up to the high teens by the end of the day.
@@RaisedinAlaska I also was on Long Lake for about 1/2 of the race. was planning on going farther out but since the field was so small this year, I stayed on Long Lake.
Thank you for your content. My students and I are watching here!
Thank you, tell your class “Hi” from Alaska.
I love the race! I follow it via Iditarod Insider subscription from Colorado every year.
It’s always a great race, and then share with your mashers. It will still be a great race.
The Iditarod is an awesome event!
In memory of two great heroes. The brave Balto and the extraordinary Togo
Excellent video! Nice high def. Good information. Thank you!!
Thank you.
Thank you to all the participants this year for making the effort! Best of luck!
🏆
The Iditarod is on my bucket list. I loved watching this when it was broadcasted on TV.
It is a great event to watch.

That's very true and the insurance the mushers and dogs go thru each and every day !
Уникати обичам ви 😂❤
That is just a shame about the race being cost prohibitive for so many folks. Beautiful weather for the opening though!!!

I looked for you at the start in Willow but didn't see you. I'm guessing you were out somewhere along the trail.
I wanted to see if I could spot you as well, we were trailside at mile 5.

@@MyAlaska12 I was surprised how few mushers there was this year.
