Vikings specifically refers to a class of people from scandanavia, during a period of European plundering that starts with the raid on Lindisfarne. Please do not use it as a catch all to refer to the Germanic tribes on the borders of the Roman empire.
Also Anglo-Saxons weren't a thing at this point. It was the Angles Saxons and Jutes.

I'm Jamaican. We have a rich history of piracy, as Port Royal was a pirate haven in our past. Henry Morgan was actually a governor of Jamaica at one point, appointed by the British. In school, they were taught to us as Buccaneers. The word "pirate" was used surprisingly little

@@CarlieGuss I see what you mean.
What is more interesting is that One Piece is really looking like a carbon copy of the Hispanic Empire:
      1) The "Void Century" is based on the Black Legend.
      2) The "Ancient Kingdom" is based on the Hispanic Empire.
      3) The "D." is based on the Hispanic D. that goes in the front of the first name.
      4) The "World Government" is based on the Anglo-Saxons.
      5) The "genocide-hunting game" is based on Anglo-Saxons killing native peoples around the world.

This was a super good theory and definitely resonated with me. Like you, i also am in the process of creating my own story. Im still ironing out a lot of the world and story, but a lot of the inspiration for my world comes from rome's conflicts with the germanic tribes, and the name of my protagonist's ancestor is actually a play on Odoacer, so i got super dialed in to this one when you dropped his name. Super cool historic figure and its cool to think that oda was also a fan of him when he was drawing up his story

One Piece is a manga that offers a profound critique of the United States and its imperialist policies. I believe that many readers from the developed “west” fail to notice this because it would challenge their worldview and make them question their own role in global affairs in a "are we the baddies?" moment. The resemblance between the World Government flag and the NATO flag is not a coincidence, but a deliberate choice by the author.

There really are a number of large historical events in separate eras that have a telling association in support of your musings within this hypothesis: the "Picts" and the Holy Roman Catholic expansionism building Hadrian's Wall (another RedLine/Calm Belt scenario) because they had a bad time trying to conquer them, nor could they convert the less educated Picts from what they saw as Animalistic tendencies and Paganism. These troubles continued into the future when the Norse settled down the Picts (and other Celtic/Gaelic/Irish etc) and married many Clans together which did result in what then became Scotland. Side-note: The threads of Nobility amidst feudalism/tribalism, the Pagan ritualistic polytheism that was shared by the Vikings who were in truth, comprised of a far higher amount of "Raiders" rather than piracy continued having non-Christian and especially, anti Roman-Catholicism religions (the Irish in the south-with the 'help' of Saxons) became 'Irish Catholics' while those in the far north persisted in their theologism. Catholic worship was resisted even through until a few centuries ago when North America became a salvation causing emigration en masse. Christianity had finally found a foothold in the far north and the Highlands, but as for Catholicism, not so much. Protestant Sects of Christianity like the Presbyterians and Lutherans had held fast that they need not pay tithing, nor need worship within pre-ordained 'Holy Houses'/Abbeys/Churches etc., as they held fast to the belief in their personal relationship with Nika, I mean JoyBoy, I mean... Christ. This period of the far north of what is now part of "Great Britain"/The "UK", with the Clans, Family Rite, Noble Nepotism, and many families/clans making treaties and/or making enemies of each other, all while the Roman Church and England, or the Normans between them even, is so amazingly paralelled by the era of Feudal Japan and "The Warring States".
My wife is Japanese and I am Scots. We are constantly finding historical similarities of how the people and the lands functioned, oftentimes even during the same centuries. Child emperors/kings/queens etc., who would be married off to Nobles before even turning 13 years in order to form bonds of "kith and kin"; resisting the will of outsiders whom had intentions of meddling with status quo. Knights and Mercenaries protecting nobility either by rite of blood or else hired with gifts of land and then being married into said family/clan, just as it was with the relationships of Samurai to Daimyo, Shogun, and/or Emperor. When stripped down to its bare naked bones, Scottish Highlander Clans and Feudal Era Japan, it's quite difficult to find substantive differences between the two; Pagan and Shinto belief systems are yet another happenstance that is shared.
Having said all of that, if one shifts their gaze to the Pre-Columbian Americas and the indigenous "Native Americans", you'll yet find another case of the same themes, beliefs, practices occurring prior to any outside influences from Expansionist Kings, or Colonialism/Imperialism forcing the ways of outsiders upon a people who were yet again presumed to be uneducated savages, with a ritualist "nonsense religion" and animalistic tendencies and practices.
I feel that Oda is reflecting the History of the cycles of the entire WORLD within MULTIPLE Major Historical Eras, rather than just the Holy Roman Empire's failure to quell Visigoths, Vikings, etc., and the eventual Fall of Rome. Rome fell many times, just as so many other Empires that sought power beyond which they had any rightful claim.

Just as it's arcs have messages for very real current day issues so too it's geopolitics are a mirror of our world.
Think of mariegeosie, a nation that militarily and economically rules the rest, made of the elites of the most powerful nations around the world that colonized and settled the grand line, eradicating the indigenous population in the process.
there are some other extremely obvious parallels (like the world government flag looking like that of nato) and others that are subtle (the entire OP world is a product of the process of manufactured consent that's in turn a product of layers of exploitation and interests)

536 A.D was the result of the Krakatoa volcano most likely in my opinion, that volcano before it blew in the late 1800s used to be huge also it has the record for the loudest sound on earth from it's 1800s eruption. The very fine ash is thrown into the upper atmosphere and would stay there for years. I heard that the ash covering Africa lowered the temperature resulting in flees for some reason becoming more hungry and biting everything and that same period the ivory trade was in progress from Africa to Europe thereby brining the black plague.

I keep saying Nero was known to disguise himself to go amongst commoners and party and Joy Boy likes to have loads of fun and Imu is keeping a straw hat locked away.
It’s entirely possible that Imu was Joy Boy but only the tiltle of Joy Boy is remembered, because like Luffy, Imu did not want to be known.

I think in terms of JoyBoy being within the history of Rome, I’d relate him more to Vercingetorix. A Gall leader who managed to link all the tribes and nearly succeeded in fully defeating Julius Cesar. Obviously there’s a lot to get into when talking about history, but Dan Carlin has an episode called the “Celtic Holocaust” that’s really good pertaining to this specific video.

I love that Ancient Rome and the Germanic tribes are parallelled with the Celestial Dragons and the Ancient Kingdom. The comics Asterix and Obelisk comes to mind when thinking about Rome and the Germanic and Luffy remind me alot of Asterix which could have been an inspiration to Oda. Could the winged helmet of Asterix be a small hint to the One Piece treasure?

Asterix is a french cartoon. The french wouldn't make germans/germanic tribes the hero protagonists in their stories. 0% chance. Also french as a language is part of the latin/romanic based languages. They're gallics. Gallics are more west and germanic tribes more north east.

Hey OP, Asterix was the story of the Arvernians and Vercingetorix told in a loose way. Don't you dare suggest its link to true history - I met someone who stalked me during History of the Church classes making Asterix references in a giggly voice to gain my attention, which was all levels of incorrect, obnoxious and i9₪¤Гa₪t.
Geriatrix always mentions the battles of Alesia (defeat) and Gergovia (triumph) against the Romans,, which were fought by Gallic tribes under the Arvernians leadership. They were not erased by the Romans but absorbed. And there are three Galias, with Germanic elements but mostly Celtic. They formed alliances with CELTIC tribes like the Ligures in Massilia. They REPELLED Germanic tribes like the Suebi and did NOT ally with them at any point before Romanization.
The best parallel I see is that out of the four most powerful Gallic tribes, three called for Rome's help to defeat the Arvernians, but again... Naming Asterix in a history context is like saying I can't believe it's not butter is butter because it's in its name.
Even Goscinny and Uderzo said they were aiming for historical reference to satirize the twentieth century without going through heavy censorship.
      End of story.
There is a lot of oral and written history left of the three Gallias. We can piece together most of it, save for the location of Alesia (shrouded in shame by the Gauls, and not pinpointed exactly by Caesar)
We are not yet addressing the Franks, JB, Asterix happened in the time of the Gauls. Their downfall moved the Franks into the vacant power space long after Caesar and into the power vacuum of the falling Roman Empire.
And the Franks were a GERMANIC tribe, invading the Gauls' former territory through the extension of the Rhine.
I cannot believe I am writing this at 6 am while travelling to Geneva, land of another Celtic tribe (the Helvetii), but addressing misconceptions is in my DNA and here we are 🤷‍♀️

Nika is Mercury as in the Roman equivalent of Hermes which actually ties to the whole Pan Dionysian mystery religion stuff which is technically an unsolved mystery because a lot of it falls into Forbidden Archaeology like real giants, may specifically include Loki and Mercury who technically shouldn't exist and a lot of the stuff referenced in story. It's solvable can't say I have a better answer past that than Raleigh's at the Shakey's.
Minor note Devil Fruits are Egregores at least close enough to be the most probable inspiration.

    • @naxireal869

That's not to say it doesn't also tie to Jesus just it's actually as complicated as the real thing or at least about as close as possible.
But yeah weirdly Loki and Mercury while they have similar mythological figures, those two specifically are complicated because they don't really fit the simple narrative we want them to. And may not have even existed in their pantheons prior hierarchy. They don't seem to have.

Joy boy, there was a pirate kindom in North Africa, whose général where named the Deys, its was a multi racial kindom but the rulling class was mostly African called the "moors".
This kindom was destroyed by France and the USA 200 years ago. Take a look at this and you will find crazy connections to one pièce story.
Its was called the barbarie coast. The link with Rome, is that this kingdom (sultabate) was in the exact same region as the Cartagenian civilisation, the great ennemi of Rome. Also a great sea fearing African civilisation. I think this where the insparation for the ancient can be found. In the great pirate Era in our World, there where African pirates, and corsair in all seas and the european destroyed them all 😮. This is the story of one piece.
