Would’ve been good to hear his views on thread sewn hardback books. I think they sit somewhere in the middle of the two in regards to laying flat

This is the video I should watch but didn't know I needed to. Thank you. Maybe some pricing (yes I know it will vary a lot - but proportional) would be useful information?

Hi Stephan! This is a great topic, I think you should create a video only for the “non layflat books” or “how to create a classic traditional photo book -not photo album-“. Everyone calls layflat books as photo books where they are not. They are photo albums (thick cardboard paper). I’ve been months trying to make a traditional photo book (a book, like all classic library photo books as Nat Geo and alike) and it is REALLY difficult to find someone that prints with saal digital quality but in a classic photo book 150gpm format. I wish saal had this format but they don’t. I’ve just tried Blurb with a big 33x28cm 110 premium paper pages and the result is quite good, although as you said in another video, it is impossible not to see the digital print at an arm’s length view… Maybe I should try Snappybook? Do you think I could gain anything over Blurb?
Do you have any recommendation to create a big photo book (not photo album, not layflat) that actually prints with very good quality? I live in Spain.
I’ve learnt a lot from your channel. Keep going and thanks a lot!

So it would help if you could mention the "hard to find" companies that offer inkjet for perfect bind...is this a unicorn quest?

I agree with the weight issue...so where can I find inkjet printing of perfect bind book?

What is your opinion on signature vs premium weight pages for lay flat books?

    Hi Stefan
I've been making lay flat photo books for many years. Originally professionally and now that I'm retired I am working on my own albums. I have probably made 100-150 albums over the years without problems.
The company that I was using has been taken over and I've had a nightmare with the new company. I don't want to put there name out there as they have been trying to sort out the issues which have been:
    1. The binding came apart when I opened the album
    2. The print wasn't straight
    3. The lay-flat pages were wavy
The company have reprinted it 5 times and with the latest album the binding is fine.
The print is ALMOST straight (2mm difference between left corner of left page and right corner of right page, This irritates me but I think most people wouldn't notice).
They sent the album in a plastic sleeve and it arrived flat. However, I removed the sleeve and overnight the pages started to wave again.
As instructed by the company, I left the album in a room with a dehumidifier for 10 days 24/7. A slight improvement but the pages are still wavy and just not good enough. The company have said that they cannot guarantee that the albums will remain flat! Very strange as I've never had this issue before.
They have refunded me, but after spending hours and hours on this 120 page album, I am reluctant to have to re-do it on someone else's software.
My question to you is whether you have had any similar issues of wavy pages with any of the many companies that you have used?
    Thanks
    Gayle
