@@iTeacupPanda Well. First of all, competition among sopranos is CRAZY - you really need to be world class to get anywhere. And let’s be realistic: Tarja was a novice singer when she started with Nightwish - they were all teens, forgodssakes!
Second, popular music is the genre to catapult you into fame very quickly, if you are lucky. Classical - certainly not!
Third, a singer is nothing without great music to sing, however phenominal she/he was. Tuomas is the mastermind behind Nightwish - do you think Tarja would've ever come to think of singing in a metal band - or in ANY band for that matter - in the first place? I don’t think so, especially since she’s made it quite clear that she never felt it was her place and what she strived for.
It was the radical idea to marry her classical vocals with metal carried by Tuomas’ undisputable skill in crafting music that catapulted the band - and Tarja with it - to incredible success. Bear in mind that Nightwish and the Dutch metal band Within Temptation were the first metal bands ever to incorporate operatic vocals into metal music - and virtually in exactly the same time, according to Loudersound www.loudersound.com/features/symphonic-metal-nightwish-within-temptation-history
Of course she wouldn’t be a star was it not for her charisma and diva quality (plus, she’s quite another singer today than in her late teens-early 20’s) but I seriously doubt she would ever have achieved the status she now has without the novelty value and success of Nightwish.

@@juharaty5449 Well FIRST OF ALL, that's the case for singers in general. Like I said, she may not have ever made it to the capacity Nightwish drove her to but she would've been successful for the reasons you mentioned.
and you've kind of went on a passion-rant insinuating things I didn't say. They both owe a great deal to eachother.
It may have been his idea to go metal, but it was because of the concept being built around her. The muse is just as much to thank, especially when she's the one making it happen as the person who is making the materials and providing the concept.
I think Anette is proof, no disrespect to her. . . . that the same Nightwish wouldn't have existed on that impactful level had it been another singer necessarily.
and being Finnish aside, Tara has a super distinct voice that is part of her diva charisma. No classical singer has that dark richness and weighty vocal that she necessarily has and brings such grandiosity to their sound.
They both made insane waves and owe it to eachother success wise. Tarja couldn't write and Tuomas isn't a charismatic frontman who stands out.

People don't like it when a band evolves. I mean listen to Kiss. Kiss isn't the same band anymore, neither is Heart. Both bands have evolved and changed their sound and style, yet both bands are caught up in the same war back and forth... I think the issue has always been the concerts.
Tarja was overworked at concerts, Annette was fired because she was having a child during the concert tour, and even Floor had to cancel concert tours because she has brest cancer, surgery and a baby.

I think that whoever has been setting up the tours, Tuomas or whoever is planning them, needs to be way more considerate of the singers’

I, for one, would absolutely love to see maybe a special anniversary show, with Tarja, Sami, Marko, and Anette...I personally feel that Targa married, and was led astray by a Svengali.....on Tuomas' part, the band removed "Poest and the Pendulum"from the concert play list; made the statement that"we've.grown beyond that....i think that hatchet has been mutually buried by all parties involved

True. People are so quick to judge without knowing all the facts. I'm sure NW could have handled it better, but at the same I think the communication between Tarja and the band was basically so disturbed that they saw no other way than a letter. Where 2 fight, the truth is usually in the middle and both parties could have handled it better.
As for her touring with NW, please people give it a rest, she left 17yrs back and has a great career of her own. In fact I like her better now than with NW. What happened happened more than sixteen years ago, and as with everything there is the NW truth and there is Tarja’s truth, and somewhere in the middle, there’s the actual truth. People should really move on now, they both have each moved on in the direction they chose. Yes there always two sides, but sometimes there are simple facts that you cant ignore, and actions that are undisputable, and unacceptable.
For example, a woman who is raped by a man, who has not given consent. There are no "two sides" to this story, it has no relevance whether she flirted or wore daring clothes.
Just like with Nightwish and Tarja, knowing the fact that the guys had multiple opportunities to let her go peacefully, but still decided to string her along, and actively planed her departure in this very immature and distasteful way behind the scenes (all facts revealed in the Nightwish book), and repeatedly violated her rights by contrating tours behind her back and willingly kept the information from her until it was too late. Information like this should not so easily be discarded as "there are two sides". The examples I gave are just the tip of the iceberg.

The band accomplished much after chapter 1 which ends when Tarja leaves. Tarja has accomplished a lot too which she had more freedom to do without being tied down by Nightwish. I suppose this counts for many people…..you move on. Marco is doing the same with tremendous success. I’m a relatively new fan to Nightwish, since 2019 but have gone back in their history and can honestly say that I’m also a Tarja fan and a Marco fan as well as a Nightwish fan. One does not exclude the other. Most of their older music is sometimes still played in the Floor era as she can perform them. Of course she does so in her manner, what else do you expect….? she has a different voice. Not worse, not better, different.
Yes it would be great to have an all-in-reunion with new and old Nightwish members but I believe that the fans will love this much more than the people who ever performed for Nightwish. They have moved on and so should we. Time only moves forward.

These kids nowadays commenting Floor is goddes of Nightwish 🤣 Don’t get me wrong, Floor is great singer, nothing against her, but to us, fans of this band since their first day of existence it’s hilarious. Nightwish became what it became thanks to this lady, her voice and their original idea to combine metal and opera voice, they were first and that’s what made them successful. Aside all stories about their break up, purely artistically speaking Nightwish 1996-2005 was absolute perfection thanks to the great instrumentals and Tarja’s iconic voice. For me, nothing and nobody can beat that, not even Floor’s versatility ( it’s about uniqueness of the voice color, not ability to sing all for the commercial purposes) . I will listen those songs as long as I live. And after 25 years of listening, it stil evokes the same emotions as the first time and that can do only Tarja voice, that’s where here greatness lies.

In my opinion, the official vocalist and the face of Nightwish is Flor Jansen unquestionably and apparently Tuomas has understood that she can be the vocalist of Nightwish and at the same time she can work on her career as a soloist since I have seen that Flor alone is a something other than NW is like listening to Celine Dion but louder with more attitude. But as a commentator, being Tuomas, I would arrange a world tour called "Trilogy" where the three vocalists would be and that would bring euphoria to fans of all times in NW and of course good money.

What a strange question! Tarja had already given notice that she was only going to do only one more album, and was not going to do any more touring for more than two weeks, and that after that she was going solo.
Nightwish does not have to apologize to her. Why? She was leaving anyhow. Nightwish decided to expedite the process by firing her preemptively. A classic "You can't quit, you're fired". Maybe the initially closed open letter was a bit harsh, but the communication between her and the rest had already totally broken down, thanks to Marcelo.
Marcelo, her future husband, who had wheedled himself into her good graces after being sympathetic to her after hiring nitwit security who stood by and did nothing when Tarja was sexually attacked in Guadalajara. To his credit, he did intervene, but his intervention should not have been necessary.
Tuomas has already said that Floor is the last Nightwish singer. He doesn't want to deal with the drama of a singer change anymore. Tarja is never coming back, unless maybe as a guest if she apologizes to them.
It is better to be a muse to a genius composer than to be a sometimes spectacular singer who thinks that they can compose. I have her first two albums, but I don't remember one song. "Colors in the Dark" is the title of the first album I think, but the second was totally forgettable.
A few years ago, I had the opportunity to see Serpentyne, Stratovarius and Tarja in Utrecht. I really enjoyed the first two support acts, but the Tarja stage took a stupid amount of time to set up. While I was resting my old back waiting for Tarja, I asked myself why I wanted to see Tarja. "She has a beautiful voice, when she does not go overboard with that big wobbly vibrato", I replied to myself. My next question to myself was "How many Tarja songs do you know?" to which I had to admit "Not one", even though I own two Tarja albums. The last question I asked my self was which Nightwish songs she would sing. The answer was none, since she only does an awkward medley of portions of three Nightwish "greatest hits" none of which are personal favourites.
So I left the venue without listening to Tarja.

Okay...either you just twisted the context, or dont know all of it.
Tarja had told the guys in a meeting she was willing to do one more last album, the guys agreed and they all set the terms of her departure mutually. If they thought her so shitty to work with, they could have dumped right there and then.
Yet they strung her along, and back-stabbed her. 9 months before End of an Era, is when the guys decided to fire her, read the Nightwish book, the guys tell it themselves. Thus, they milked every ounce they could of her. Contracted tours behind her back without letting her view the terms and the conditions, and one time even notified her less than 24 hours of a concert, and have the nerve to mislead fans to believe she wanted to cancel and hang out with friends.
She did not refuse tours more than two weeks. The WHOLE BAND mutually decided after a disastrous experience in North-America that they would only return there for a period of two weeks. Surprise surprise, Tarja finds out from fans randomely on the street that there is a 4-week North-American tour happening in just a couple of months.
The guys were assholes, caring more about tour excessively and party 24/7 than the health, and Jukka paid the heavy price, and Marco fell to his old alcholism habbits, cheated on his wife, lost his son over it. Yet the women are to blame. Stop being a hater, if you just dont like Tarjas voice, thats totally okay, but do your research next time.

I never felt she would say, "No" if a reunion was offered. At least, not from anything I ever saw. It always seemed to depend on Tuomas' take on the matter. Personally, I'd love to see Tuomas come up with a master song that could incorporate all three vocalists in one song. The ship sailed a long time ago. Tarja has a successful career of her own and is doing her own thing. Nightwish are a very different band now. Tuomas and Emppu are the only original members left, and the band's style is quite different than how it used to be... more folky and all about the world, science, history, etc. rather than the dark romanticism that came before.

Quite the opposite, the guys were impossible to work with, contracting tours behind her back, repeatedly breaking mutual decisions set by the whole band. Telling fans misleading half-truths. Tarja has more collaborations than any solo artist in metal, working with her is just fine if ask Within Temptation, Scorpions and other more prominent names.
Besides, the guys had ample opportunities to let her go peacefully, but admit themselves in the Nightwish book at that they strung her along for 9 months, lying to her face every day that their mutual agreement of her departure was the deal, whilst they planned this spectacle behind her back. Oh and leaving a pregnant women alone in a foreign country? Marco already apologised, its only right Tuomas does it too.

Fact remains, the band kicked her out because they did not want to work with her anymore, and wanted to move on. Now it's many many years later, they have Floor, and Tuomas and Floor are happy, so it all ended well. Tuomas is already working on his third album with Floor as the NW lead vocalist, so close all the history books.

@@FemaleMetalLover After Forever was also a symphonic metal band and existed since 1995. Floor started singing for them in 1997, at 16 yrs old. She finished her singing education in 1999. Which was also the year Oceanborn was released outside of Finland. In Floorland you already had the Gathering and Within Temptation with Sharon en Adel. They were Floor's inspiration and coincidental The Gathering was also Tuomas' inpiration. So maybe we should all thank Anneke van Gierbergen 😉

Plenty of time for her to take inspiration from many bands and many singers, but Tarja was definitely one of them which was obvious in how smitten Floor was/is in Nightwish and Tarja already back then.
Point is, just Xyz stated, Tarja did blaze a trail for so many other singers in the genre out there. Tarja and Nightwish was by far not the first to blend classical singing with metal and orchestra, but they are the ones who hallmarked the genre into what it is today. And Tuomas have said that without Tarja, there would not be a metal band, but acoustic folk music.

Perhaps Toumas can humble himself. Give both of Floor's predesessors a call, help promote their works the next 5 years, then maybe before 2030, Tarja and Anette would gladly do something with Nightwish.
Toumas should have positively promoted Tarja's solo career after announcing her departure wishing her the best of success, then if he was still just that upset, sent a letter to her and Marcelo PRIVATELY between the three of them a few months AFTER the End of the Era tour. Just because you're disgruntled doesn't mean you have to be a dick.

And the guys in Nightwish just kept playing their instruments like nothing was going on, instead of stopping the song to kick the intruders ass. So anything Tarja did after that, I would not fault her......
Before that, it's possible she did some things wrong on her end as well. But that wasn't relevant to my initial point. Point is, Toumas didn't handle the situation the way a decent human would. And had Floor followed Tarja without Anette coming into the picture (which almost happened); Floor would have suffered the same fate as Anette because of Toumas' immaturity.
At best, this guy could have worded the question a bit differently. At worst, he should have kept his trap shut.

I never understood why people idolized Tarja so much, I mean she's an amazing person and her vocals are great, but for some songs only like Sleeping Sun, doing operatic voice in every song was kinda boring at the end, nothing different nothing risk for her, so when I came back to NW with Floor I was mesmerized by her range, and personally I think she was always meant to be part of this band cause she fits perfectly giving soul to every song, Floor made me a NW fan (and her version of Sleeping Sun is the best imo too). Marco already apologised, and he was the main player in pushing for Tarja to be fired. If he has come around, then the others will too, if not publicly just to protect their pride and image.
As for being bigger and classier? Being "classier" is not what made Nightwish the icons they are, and what hallmarked a whole genre into an international hit.
Social media have helped them, just like it did Sabaton, Avantasia, Arch Enemy who are on equal pair with Nightwish and have increased their audiences way more.
If no drama and errupted, Nightwish would be in pair with Rammstain today.

The Tarja songs on "Decades" got really good because of Floor. Floor really breathed life into the songs with her versatile voice.
