  • One of the most grounded, faith driven relationships in a popularity based culture which often promotes the exact opposite is without a doubt Meagan Good and Devon Franklin.
    The power couple recently stopped by Sway in the Morning, to speak not only on their relationship that has become a testimony in itself showing a true transformation but also provide guidelines and tips to those that can apply it. One of those things many shy away from discussing is abstinence and celibacy, the difference between the two and what can be used in order to stay focused on that tempting path.
    ‘The Wait’ not only covers items that hinder growth in a relationship as a couple as well as an individual but addresses the questions you may have during that confusing, uncomfortable time of being stretched into your full capacity to love. Love Yourself. Love Others. Love this interview.

    I agree. Celibacy is more of a disciplined practice. You understand the greater purpose. I am happy with her change and her relationship. I don't know her but a relationship that involves God, commitment and spiritual intimacy is destined for longevity.

    • @NinaPrissyMurphy
      @NinaPrissyMurphy 8 лет назад +7

      +SGSSG25 It's not about believing what he says. Practicing something because you want a clearer mind or you want to achieve something takes discipline. There's absolutely nothing dumb about me. But of course, that is only your opinion. And the rest I said are simply my beliefs, whether I clicked on this video or not. Plus, there are black women in Power. Clearly, just none you know.

    • @Dimplez2388

      Exactly. I've been celibate for a little over a year and I can tell you that it is a HUGE difference. My mind is clear, I'm no longer emotionally led, I'm able to see the red flags that I would normally be blind to before hand. I'm disciplined that sexual urge us no longer in me. My body has purged completely. I feel so rejuvenated the best feeling ever. I just wished I had known to do this in my youth years. The people who are celibate in this life to me, they are more successful, and more focused. The award for being celibate is well worth it.

    This is crazy. I broke up with my ex a day before the new year started and he couldn't understand why but I did because I didn't want to walk into the new yea e with someone who doesn't have the same visions as me all around and I wanted to stop having sex and he still doesn't understand lol. I've noticed now that when you focus on YOU and not sex, love, and relationships that aren't healthy for you, you start to notice how successful you can become. Now they are speaking on it and I say Its crazy because I know it's a path I need to take.

    The question about homosexuality was unnecessary, but Devon handled it well. He basically said he is not the type of Christian that would condemn someone because they are homosexual or that person differently. He alluded to having different "views", but said his views wouldn't get in the way of the way he treated them. Now THAT IS a Man of God. He never said anything was ok. Folks are bothered because he didn't jump on the "being gay will get you to hell" train. If he wants to win souls for Christ, it won't happen that way. You meet the person and eventually they will ask you about your faith through your good deeds and then the Holy Spirit convicts them to share the things they struggle with and then there is the opportunity to share the word in respect to that. He also never said " we wrote this book because the bible says that fornication is wrong and we don't want anyone to go to hell", although I'm sure he knows that already.

  • @astheskylarksings
    @astheskylarksings 8 лет назад +39

    Sad to see so many disrespectful comments under such a nice message... Dudes can't control themselves when they see a beautiful woman. That's why messages are necessary because people NEED it. It's prescribed for an illness. It's sad that when people tout a positive message, the haters rise up so strong. But when people are out living a life full of negative behavior, they get applauded. The cycle spins and spins and the same outcomes repeat themselves, i.e. poverty, racism, violence, etc..The FACT that the natural reflex to goodness is hate is more than enough to prove that sin and righteousness spoken of in the bible is the real deal..

    • @astheskylarksings
      @astheskylarksings 7 лет назад

      Erin Liggins the question is, is what you speak of the result of conditioning or is it inherent among blacks people?

    For those of you who don't like how Devon answered the question on homosexuality, I'd just like to influence you opinion if you don't mind. What he was saying is that he's not gonna just blatantly say "I disagree with homosexuality" because with today's society it would only be taken out of context and the following message would be lost. The following message is that although homosexuality is immoral, it's not something us as Christians should demean homosexuals for because we're all sinners and we understand that people don't just choose to be gay a lot of the time. We CHOOSE to lie or have sex out of wedlock or w/e but to be homosexual a lot of the times doesn't work like that. And I feel like what he's saying is he doesn't agree with it per say but that doesn't mean he hates gay people or ANYTHING along those lines but it's like society will you with your words so much nowadays that you gotta talk like a politician sometimes. He's trying to win over and strengthen Christian souls..

    • @Native_tay
      @Native_tay 8 лет назад +3

      And he understands that in order to do that, you have to learn how to speak in certain settings in which your saying what you mean but you arnt being misinterpreted, there are times and places to be more specific about things when he has a more intimate platform to go into each of his views, a radio show is not the place to do that. Part of being an evangelist is being strategic

    I watched to see what this guy was about after all the headlines and was starting to like him for his eloquent way with words. But then he came undone and did an Obama at 13.02 when asked the "allegiance" question about his views on homosexuality and totally caved in to the pressure to please the crowd (which I I've done against my will so many times in other situations) and basically misled people by saying that God's purpose for celibacy until marriage was just as applicable to homosexuality despite knowing full well, as a pastor, that the bible is clear that it is against the will of God. And Meagan is clapping him like "you answered that good honey" because he seemed to appease the interviewer but I know from personal experience that afterwards - if you truly follow God as you say you do - there is no way you can feel peaceful inside about not speaking the truth - kind of like Peter when he was too scared to admit he knew Jesus. Or when you get asked that other allegiance question: are all religions equal (aka is there more than one God) and you say something like yes when you really think no. So painful! It takes all your courage to resist, but it's these moments when we are sifted that we have to resist that powerful pull to tell people what they want to hear, even when it means going against the crowd and losing something in the process........like book sales or movie deals....or "friends". The reason people say the truth hurts is because the bible does say the truth is sharper than a double edged sword. So sometimes the speaker also gets hurt from the backlash from those wounded from hearing the truth. And so people try to swallow us with anger and insults like "bigot" or "judgemental".

    I love them. The book. Everything. however, I only have one thing to say. to say people who are abstinent are abstinent due to "no options" isn't fair to say at all. Because I'm abstinent as well and plan to be (hopefully Lord) until i am married. & i have MANY options of people i can or could be sleeping with, and I also choose not to because I have a higher purpose for my relationships than just sleeping with any and everybody and I also believe that when you sleep with people your bodies are connecting and I am not willing to share my body with any and everybody at all until God sends me that person. So no Celibacy & Abstinence are not the same...but yes we REQUIRE, SEEK, and are PURSUING the same things when it's done through Christ. #Justsaying

    • @Genie2386
      @Genie2386 8 лет назад

      I think they might frame it that way because they didn't remain abstinent and chose celibacy after multiple partners....but why make me out to be purposeless for making the decision to refrain from sex BEFORE indulging and then choosing it's better for me to not do that? His point is great....but it applies to abstinence, too.

    The real question here is: Is it even possible for a non-Christian man to be rational enough to understand and practice celibacy? I practice celibacy for common sense but I can't submit to Christianity and I really want a good man but the few ones I've met who actually believe in celibacy are judgmental because I'm not a Christian (that doesn't make me a bad person or a whore). I don't feel like converting into a religion just to secure a partner...

    In reference to the homosexuality question, and how was dodging the question and being politically correct, Jesus was politically correct a lot of the times, hence why he answered the Pharisees and others with parables a lot of time. Trust you'd get the truth, but he'll deal with your ulterior motives which is not pure and of love at the same time! Which is what Devon did!

    Beautiful couple. God bless the whole panel. Great discussion. Practicing abstinence brings clarity, focus, and for me I can get more accomplished in my life when sex not a factor. I have been asked how could I abstain after many years of having sex. My reply to my self. Self-love, truth, tired of meaningless sex, afraid of diseases, brokenness, valuing my body, no longer wanting too let an individual chip away from my body and not able to fulfill any happiness in my life, conviction. Every time I would have sex while doing the acts that I once was ok with I started feeling dirty. God is so good. I am older, wiser abstaining and happy. I had so much meaningless sex in my life that I do not ever have to have sex again. Also I started having sex at a young age. If I could change three things in my life , one would be never to have had sex before marriage and that would have been the only man. Not cool to be a woman and can't even count the amount of men I slept with. Shameful! Thank God for change.

    Celibacy together 9 yrs 3 children. Some people man. You cannot be celibate when you live together. 9 yrs 3 kids what is celibacy going to do for you, you are engaged means you will get married in months.

    This guy that called talking about what if after the honeymoon her sex isn't that great. He sounds like a little boy. I would have fast forwarded if Devon response wasn't coming. This guy question is good, but he just came off like a big kid to me and I can't explain it. Like Devon said women's body isn't a vehicle.

    Hhhhmmm the Word is the Word... I'm sorry I can't skate around the truth... we judge the ACT and NOT the person... hey we all have vices we are struggling with but I have to answer according to the Standard we are all striving to live by.. for our purpose is to love unconditionally but I have to say DeVon failed to answer the question directly... for a lack of a better way of saying it... DeVon skated around the answer and wasn't straight forward...
    hey! he just showed we are just that... HUMAN... a work in progress... our PERSONAL salvation is just that a PERSONAL one... you take those aspects that will help in the journey and leave the rest where it is... and keep going... MY faith is not in man but in Christ! And I think most folks forget and place folks like DeVon on a pedestal... I believe God used him and his wife to spread this particular message... and from there one keeps moving... I have the book ad thus far its been encouraging/inspirational in my 4yr journey of celibacy...

    They received direct questions but talked around the answers. Maybe to tease the book but they could have been more specific. I also caught the smiles they exchanged back and forth after the question regarding homosexuality and they gave a political answer. Oh well.
