Very helpful video. I have done the cheap sneakers route for YEARS. Works great. Broke down and ordered a pair of Crosskix brand shoes. They arrive tomorrow. River trip in the near future 😁

Love my Korkers! Awesome boot that you can swap the soles out. Put the rubber on for the trail, swap to the felts when you hit the water. EZ PZ.

Great video. I have about wore out my Worldwide Sportsman cheap lug sole wading boots. They don't offer much support and never really did but safer than my sneakers and water shoes. I fish a bunch of places where glass and trash is a problem getting into/out of the water. This gives a good starting point

This is a big help since I want to do more creek wading, but after 7 hip surgeries, I have to be real careful. I just slipped and fell in the other day even though I had a good quality wading stick. Thanks for this info, John!

I picked up a pair of Magellan Outdoors Pro Men's Fishing Shoes at Academy on clearance for 30$ last week and im really liking them for wading. They offer alot more support than those cheaper mesh water shoes I was using. 👊👍

Astral makes great wet wading shoes for the summer. Check out the Astral TR1 Junction model, they're a more durable hiking/water shoe hybrid. Had them for years and they've held up great

I landed on Korkers with changeable soles. Most of the time I use the rubber soles with small studs. They work great for hiking and the tiny studs are not noticeable but still grip on slippery rocks. If I am in an area that is real slippery I will throw in the felt soles and swap out once I get to an area.

You gotta try the Orvis Pro Approach wading shoes! They're not cheap, but it was the best money I ever spent. They have a protective collar around your ankle to keep the rocks out, but they're a tennis shoe. The bottom is made from Michelin tire rubber. If you wet wade creeks they're a must have

The creek I normally wade is very sandy. I have been using old sneakers. I actually had to throw them out after one use. They had so much sand in them I would never be able to clean them up. I need to upgrade to real wading boots with neoprene socks that fold over to prevent sand and pebbles from getting in the boots.

Teva's are what I use. Easy to just shake my foot to expel any sand/stones/etc. Quick to change in and out of. Bonus is I get those sweet sweet tan lines on my feet. 😂

Tip for getting the wet funky smell out of your wading shoes. Soak them overnight in water with antibacterial soap. It will get rid of the funk so you can get more use from them. I use the cheap water shoes and they last about a season.

I have been using World Wide Sportsman Shoal Creek Water Shoes from Bass Pro, about $35, and they work prety well. I have a pair of Crosskix coming to try. I just bought some wading socks to see if that helps. I mostly fish small rivers and creeks in OH and IN, kayaking and wading. A lot of small rocks and a good bit of sand.

I’m in need for an upgrade…I’m going to try astral rassler 2.0s when they get back in stock mid August…they are a kayak shoe light weight…supposedly very grippy and quick draining and drying…they seem like the perfect wading shoe

I have their Astral TR1 Junction which is their hiking/water shoe. They've been awesome. They are zero drop so that's something to keep in mind but had them for a few years and they have held up great

@@t-ravisaurusrex6139 sweet I heard the fitting is a bit strange on their shoes as well, did you experience that or were your shoes true to size?

    • @t-ravisaurusrex6139

@@bennyventures8204 I'm not home at the moment but from memory I want to say they are true to size. If they aren't I'll comment back again and let ya know. They do have a wide toe box but I don't think it affects the length, one of my favorite features actually. Durable, sticky rubber for slick rocks, comfortable toe box, lighter than a lot of boots or even chacos, think you'll enjoy them

Hey John thanks for another great video, I watch all of your videos and you have helped me become the creek and river fisherman. Am today, I will say I have tried the same method you are showing us today, I stayed away from the design specific wading boots as long as I could before buying a pair of hodgman h-lock wading boots ,lace ups, I will say at my age 63 now and the fact I wade a lot and sometimes 8 plus hours a day.in Tennessee rocky waters, I do love the support the heavier design specific soles provide.
I have gone to the BOA style, that I love, for the most part the regular rubber sticky soles work best all around. The better ankle and arch support is amazing, the drain amazing but are just a bit heavier, but a great trade off for me. I where one size larger than my normal shoe size for my waders, and in the warmer weather I just wear socks in the boats to take up space but most of all I fold them over the tops and it keeps the rocks and salt out of the boots, hope this helps some others, I will say I wear hodgman but their build quality could be better, probably corkers for my next pair

What fly shop did you buy those wading shoe/boot from. I live in Huntsville, but I'd be willing to drive there to try them on in person and purchase them. I love to support local small businesses, especially fishing outdoor type places. Also, which felt wading shoe or hybrid type boot do you recommend? I wade in the Flint River in Alabama and some rocks are covered in algae and very dangerous. How do rubber or synthetic soles perform versus felt? When do you use felt?
