  • Update: After about a year most of the plastidip has come off, however, this is with only 1 coat of plastidip, and 1 coat of paint clearcoat. Next time I'm going to try with the official plastidip glossifier, and plenty of coats. This was mostly a test run.
    Hey guys, I always thought a white gamecube controller with a red cable would look pretty cool, so I gave it a go! I made a tutorial so the rest of you could do it.

    For some awesome bottle openers and keychains: ebay.com/usr/TagWorks.
    You'll need:
    A triwing screwdriver: Available on Amazon.
    Acetone: Home depot sells it.
    Plastidip/flexidip of your choice: Available on Amazon or Home Depot (Sometimes).
    Clearcoat/gloss finish: Home Depot sells it.
    Tape, plastic bag.
    If you found that something works better or have a question leave a comment!
    Why plastidip?: Normal spray paint seems to just run off, and plastidip WITHOUT the clearcoat just scratches off too easily.
    I believe Plastidip sells their own "glossifier" that MAY work better, but I didn't have any on me so I just stuck with normal clear coat. I'll keep this updated on what I find is wrong with the method I used.
    Also, sorry for shitty focus. iPhones have a mind of their own.

    I just recently painted my controller and didnt even think about the cable! Over the weekend i'm gonna paint my cable a clean white to match my controllers red shell white buttons theme. thanks for the guide!

      +PapaCow I'd love to see how the white comes out! If it doesn't come out as well as you want it, you can always snag the white Smash 4 controller, and swap in the mother board (which is attached to the cable).

    could you do a video controller now or just pictures just want to see how it is holding up

    • @TomYoungster
      @TomYoungster  8 лет назад +2

      Yes! As I suspected with only 1 coat of clear it started to chip off but most of it remained in tact. I'll do another run with more clear coats and post on here what happens.

    I wouldn't put clear coat on it but instead spray some clear plastic dip that they sell onto the cable

  • @Rezirex
    @Rezirex 7 лет назад +5

    You could have just braided it with red paracord. This would make also have the benefit of lasting forever and making the cable tangle-free.

    How many coats of Clear Coat did you apply? How long does the clear coat have to dry?

    • @TomYoungster
      @TomYoungster  6 лет назад

      Just 1 as a test. And, I don't recall. At least a couple hours, I would say. Probably depends on the clear coat that is used!

    how can I remove the paint without damaging the cable? I messed up and wrapped the controller to early, ruining both the cable and the controllers paint. I should of waited like a week :/

      +Nissin CupNoodles As far as I know, a little bit of acetone should take it off. Not too much is needed, though!

      More coats is always good! I couldn't do more than one coat when filming this, but I would do 3 with small sanding in between, personally.

    Hey, idk if you're still active on your account but, I recently got my controller signed by professional players and wondering how I would go about coating the controller so the sharpie doesn't smudge

    • @TomYoungster
      @TomYoungster  7 лет назад +1

      Sora KH Good question! I've never had a situation like that, but I would guess a clear coat? Might make it kind of gunky over time but the signature will probably be protected.

      TomYoungster So, would I take off the case? And remove the motherboard then?

    • @TomYoungster
      @TomYoungster  7 лет назад +1

      I would recommend it! Just to make the finish consistent around the entire case.

    how does it hold just curious after 5 years

    • @TomYoungster
      @TomYoungster  3 года назад

      Definitely didn't hold up more than a year or so. I'm sure maintaining it with protective coats would help.

  • @snareization
    @snareization 8 лет назад +3

    kinda late to the party but hows it holding up is it still good?

    • @TomYoungster
      @TomYoungster  8 лет назад +4

      +wzrd It's not bad! One clear coat definitely didn't help, but it was a test run. (It's chipping off in small parts.) More coats of clear, and possibly using the plastidip glossifier would help.
      Also, what I just found with all of this heat, is that if you leave it in a hot car it will bleed a little bit! Just keep it out of leaving it in the car in a hot day and it shouldn't be a problem.

  • @drMzfictiOn
    @drMzfictiOn 6 лет назад +2

    So did it last?

    • @TomYoungster
      @TomYoungster  6 лет назад +1

      I never ended up doing a re-spray to see how more coats of clear coat would look. I would say, with many coats, and taking good care of it, it should last PLENTY long.

    • @drMzfictiOn
      @drMzfictiOn 6 лет назад +1

      but with the one coat you did it didnt last long?

    • @TomYoungster
      @TomYoungster  6 лет назад +1

      I still have a good amount of it, and I would say it lasted ~6-7 months without losing any.

  • @1337rage

      +Márquez Caramba 115 inches of heat shrink tubing? how long would that take to heat?!?!?

    • @TomYoungster
      @TomYoungster  8 лет назад +4

      +Márquez Caramba To be honest I have no experience, and friends of mine with experience told me it wouldn't be worth the effort. Plus, I don't know how easy it would be to make it flush from the plug to the controller. I'll definitely look into it though.

  • @gohan5400
    @gohan5400 8 лет назад +1

    you shouldn't wrap controllers. they last longer if u dont

    • @TomYoungster
      @TomYoungster  8 лет назад +1

      +Cameron Thomas Is there a better way to store it in a small place besides wrapping it? If so I'd love to know.

    • @SoundToxin
      @SoundToxin 8 лет назад

      +TomYoungster You just don't want to repeatedly bend the copper inside. A loose wrap would be better, especially if you don't wrap it around the controller, but just make a loop with the cable.

    • @jamesfisher3885
      @jamesfisher3885 8 лет назад +2

      place 3 fingers on the back of the controller and wrap it, that way it isn't too tight on the part the cable comes out of the controller so it doesn't do that

    Please tell me why the hell people give Kirby sh*t in smash Bros
    I know he is low teir but I'll be honest...teirs don't matter to me. A character isn't good it's the person that uses the character. It's like saying a red umbrella is better at blocking the rain than a blue umbrella.

    • @noxris8569
      @noxris8569 8 лет назад +7

      +Ryan Burns Because kirby has horrible to no neutral and combo options and you can mash out of his grab. most of his move are extremely easy to punish aswell. teirs dont matter if you just play with your friends for fun but if you want to play compeditavely at tournaments and stuff you should really try to play as somebody different.
