In this video, I hike through Black River County Park in search of Kay's Cottage. Google Maps coordinates: 40.779061, -74.721228 Music: Acoustic Breeze - Bensound
Very nice Pete! I was here several years ago and believe I parked & accessed from her home up on the hill. The path winds down to the river and passes an old ore furnace in the woods.
thank you so much for your videos. they are excellent, and along with your research and narration, they are absolutely super. thanks again and best wishes for a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2021.
I went here the other day. I'd love to know more about it! From what I read it seems that Elizabeth Donnell Kay and Alfred G. Kay must have built the cottage in 1924 or soon after when they bought the land in the area and named it Hidden River Farm. They had 233 acres which were later donated to the Morris County Park Commission.
Been there several times but this is all I can find on it. “The ruins of Kay’s Cottage are all that remains of a summer house built by Elizabeth and Alfred Kay who donated a large portion of the surrounding land to the MCPC. The Kays selected this location to dam the river and create a swimming area. The house originally held changing rooms, showers, a fireplace, and a terrace. The only portions still standing are the dam and its waterfall, stone and concrete foundations, and a few walls”
Sorry, I don't... but it's not that hard to find! Just follow the trail from the mill, stay near the river, and keep it on your right. From the mill, it should only take you 15-20 minutes to get to the cottage.

Thank you so much, Jim! Happy New year to you, too!
One of my favorite hikes. Great piece of property.
I was just at Kay's cottage and that no trespassing fence has a huge mine inside it.

Thanks! I'll probably check this place out!

Been there it's so peaceful.
This looks so interesting, can I go there with you sometime?
I am part of a Meetup group that does hikes in the NY/NJ area, we are always looking for new ventures. May be you can join us?
Hi, do you have the exact pin for the cottage (not the park)? Thanks!
