    I'm not sure if I understood completly because I'm not fluent in english but you show the 3th and 2sd hands without any explanation of the tells.

      He doesn't explain. Instead he wants to sell you a course explaining Ivey's live reads. Which I feel should belong to Ivey. Not to mention, the second one, Ivey gets bluffed on. Not sure what happened to Charlie. I used to like his stuff but this video is super cringe.

    One of the best reads for me is Patrik Antonius vs Mustafov in the Triton Poker 25k Super High Roller . Antonius, Mustafov and O' Dwyer the last ones left in the final table and after that hand i think he won the tournament .

    The 1st was amazing and I would love Ivey to talk about it, the second was against a wild and aggressive Durr who raised with any two and was totally polar on the river with many draws missing, I can see why he was thinking about it, especially as he sounded nervous

  • @g_sim9474
    @g_sim9474 3 месяца назад

    The first hand that comes to my mind is the one that involves Manig Loeser and Riess the beast that ended un calling with 10 or J high on the river. I dont really think it's "live tell" oriented tho probably just a question of preflop ranges but surely an interesting read/call.

  • @JayakrishnanNairOmana

    To be honest, I dont think any of these three hands were played solely based on live tells, or even that it really mattered much. Seems like they were all based on solid fundamental poker logic than tells if any. In the first hand, Ivey knew what Lex was up to, since he knew Lex knew that he was isolating a weaker player (Barry) from the button. Lex even admits that after the hand. So Ivey decided to 5-bet knowing Lex probably doesnt have a hand to call allin.
    In the second hand, Dwan was betting all 4 streets from preflop to river, and there are very few hands he could do that with. Even with a set, he would be more likely to check-call at least river since Ivey is more likely to have AJ.
    In the third hand, Kitai was the preflop raiser, and could easily have KQ. It is not likely Chan would raise even an 8 against his range, what is he getting called by? From the way action went, Kitai knew Chan is unlikely to have KQ and unlikely to raise an 8 or even have an 8. A great call based on solid game tree analysis.
    I believe all of these hands would have gone down the same way even if they were played online by the same group of players. Tells didnt have much to do with any of it.
    However I don't mean to say live tells are useless. There are some hands where the play was indeed based solely on tells, and one that comes to mind is where Johnny Chan checks back flop and turn with Aces and folds to a single bet on the river by Huck Seed. Chan said later that the way Seed reacted after looking at the flop, he knew immediately that he had flopped trips. That seems tenable as the action cant otherwise be explained by logic alone.
    Live tells are useful but way overrated. Solid logic, theoretical depth, metagame awareness and gametree analysis are way more important than just looking for tells. It is not like everyone eats oreo cookies one way or the other depending on what they have. That stuff is for Hollywood.

    You said in your talk at LSE you hadn't read any poker books, then stated that the books out there on live tells weren't very good, how would you know? Read Em n Reap by Joe Navarro is the greatest poker book ever written.

      I think with that board he felt it from the flop possibly, surely on the turn. Most people that play like that on that board have either nothing or the nuts basically. And for good reason...playing middle ranges that aggressive will lose money in the long run.
