  • Splicing a boom sling for my second time! it went pretty good and i am starting to get the hang of it. Also dont forget to slide the rope down towards the rings before you start the brummel, It makes for a much tighter fit! thank you 760 subs!!!!!!

    Man, I haven't been interested in the double ring sling, but I never noticed that you showed the bend right with this splice! I bought a bend right and knew there must be a way to do this, and you got it! I saw it on Patrick's channel, and started hunting around.

    • @PoplarMechanic
      @PoplarMechanic  Год назад

      Yes. personally, I don't use the bend right. I feel like the hole is too small. I splice eyes in my rig lines, and they don't fit through the hole. But if you don't have spliced eyes, the bend radious is favorable

    • @matiascamprubi-soms7719
      @matiascamprubi-soms7719 Год назад

      @PoplarMechanic yea, I do a mix of both, and the lines I use splices on are the smaller lines, which I can stuff through the hole. I have stopped putting splices on bigger ropes because I am concerned about the tight bend around carabiners, and if it's not for a biner, what's the eye for? I would be very interested in your thoughts on the subject.
      Edit to add: I just double checked, and a 5/8" tight eye will go through without dramatic effort. I have doubts about using eyes on bigger ropes. Maybe with a fat shackle in the eye to clip to, but that sounds clunky.

    I think leaving a smaller loop at the end instead of a strait tail would be bad ass !! You could serve two purposes by having the option to throw on a swing gate block pully on the tail when wanted and have two working end options if that makes sense ? Then you can Cary around less woopie in travel bag ! Love content thanks !! Nice work man !

      So I cant remember if the rope was 15 or 20 feet lol it's been sitting in a box for like 3 years. I'm thinking 20 though. And the whipping should always be the size of one strand. I used number 4 doubled up but it is recommended to use something larger. Number 8 would probably work.

    Still liking the Bend Right? I couldn't get myself to buy one of those over a Fiori (or a Fiori over just getting another Safebloc :P ) because of the rope-diameter limitations, I don't know what they're stamped as accepting but if you ever want to do knotless rigging / have spliced bullrope it really limits you to those "XL/Beast" size inner-holes (Lrg x-rings can't take a soft 5/8 polydyne eye, or a 1/2 polydyne eye IF you include the smallest plastic climbline thimble in the eye...but with 5/8 even soft eyes are too thick to get through the Lrg rings, and Bend Right's bullrope-hole isn't so far off)
    Would love to hear "Updated reviews" of your riggings with this particular Bend Right ring, with the Ultrasling config, and w/ your super modded 2511, I'm hesitant on the Ultra because "you can't snug it up" the way I like, though I have some 5/8 t-rex landing today and'll be making a boomer head (with an extra pair of Lrg rings I have, so can only use it with my unspliced end of my 1/2 bullrope..) with the Ultrasling body, fear the 'looseness' of it will make me dislike it, will see! Would love hearing your updates after spending time with this hardware/sling config/saw modifications(I've got the 355t, not going to be doing cylinder work & already have it screaming after muff/airbox mods, but on fence Re advancing the timing!) Am almost egging-on my 25cc to fail so I have reason to go buy the 2511 :P

    I use my bend rights on everything I do these days, super handy. Many days the portawrap stays right in the truck. They almost make TOO much friction for light stuff while running 5/8" stablebraid

    • @PoplarMechanic
      @PoplarMechanic  5 лет назад +1

      So it's that much extra friction? Well I guess 5 8ths just fits through the hole. Hopefully I get to test it out soon. Thanks for watching. Stay safe man 👊

    • @matthewstone8466
      @matthewstone8466 5 лет назад

      Running 1/2" it's nice and slick, with the 5/8" there is a decent amount of brake just from the rope and a little noticable drag while pulling the rope back up. Not a bad thing at all, just something to note. I think it's more from the amount of grip the Samson provides as opposed to a 3 strand.

    • @PoplarMechanic
      @PoplarMechanic  5 лет назад +1

      Well to be honest I never used 2 before, theoretically it will put a better bend radius on the rope, as well as a bit more predictable friction up top. I got the bend right ring to conduct some tests and people wanted to see how I spliced it so I made this video, I've let some big pieces down on one ring it's all about the technique. But putting less bend on the rope always helps, I hope that makes sense. Also the bend right hole is limited to 5/8 rope and I cant get my 1/2 inch samson with a splice through the hole. I still love the large single rings and a variety is always good! Stay safe 👊

    • @PoplarMechanic
      @PoplarMechanic  2 года назад

      So the main reason for two rings is primarily bend radius, the sharper a rope bends the more likely it is to fail, Also it does apply more friction, Having said that, I use 1 large ring pretty much always, The two rings were fun to make though, thanks for watching 🤙

      I just go by the rating on the tenex, so even if the splice was slightly weaker it wouldn't much matter if your breaking tenex splicing isn't the problem lol but if your looking for break strengths specifically go to treestuff, I don't sell these I use em myself and I've tested them extensively. Hope that helps 🤟

    How do you determine how much linear footage of tenex you need? Do you buy double the linear footage by the final sling length, or more?

    • @PoplarMechanic
      @PoplarMechanic  5 лет назад +1

      Well I dont have it down to an exact science but I believe the one I used was 20 feet but if it looks too long do 15. The triple brummel splice takes alot of tenex. So it's better to have too much than not enough. Just lay it out and figure it out from there, I'll get more into detail about it in the next video.

      @@PoplarMechanic Really awesome videos, man, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I just made one of these up with 20' of 5/8" yalex and two large x rings. It definitely eats the cordage right up. I ended up an overall length of ultra sling of 6', with the biggest loop being around 20 inches when girth hitched. Definitely smaller than I was expecting, but a great size for a beginner like me. Stoked to try this thing out! Thanks again Poplar Mechanic!! Super helpful videos.
