  • In this week's video, I go over some of the biggest changes I've made to my Tiny Red Ford Transit Connect, "Lady Bugout"! I explain how my shower/water system has changed, how I had to replace the faucet, how I had to rethink the bed orientation, and so much more! I hope there are some good take-aways from this video that can help you to create the tiny van build of your dreams! If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please feel free to leave them in the comments below. And if you like the content and are not already subscribed, consider that as well. As always, thanks for watching! Have a great Saturday!!!

lol, i'm a 'voyeur' vandweller too who would never have a channel, just like to watch 😁.
(tmi warning) added potty tip from me in the peanut gallery: buy small compostable trash bags to #2 in, in case you're off grid with no trash disposal available. that way you can 'go' privately inside your van and then bury your biz properly without putting plastic trash in the earth. which beats trying to 'go' in a hole outside.

yeah, i decided 4+ years ago that i would install/mount a sink if i felt the need. i never felt the need, and actually, being able to just pitch my (environmentally safe) very small amounts of gray water outside from a collapsible pan is easier and means i never have to carry dirty water with me. my berkey is the cornerstone of my water (non) system.

Even when you use biodegradable products you should never just throw it out on the ground. Make sure you dispose of it in a hole 6 to 8 inches deep or if that's not possible then spread it out over a wide area of dirt and not on plants and that it is at least 200 ft. from a lake, river, stream or any body of water. Also, strain out any food particles before tossing. Another thing you can use for #2 is a toddler's collapsible potty chair lined with a bag. It can be folded up flat and not take up a lot of room. Thanks for letting us see your updates today.

I’m just wondering how it is out there with what seems an increase of people taking to this van life and having all their waste everywhere. Even if you are digging holes or dispersing things like toothpaste water it just seems like it’s unhygienic and bad for sensitive areas that aren’t really adapted to human exposure. It seems that everything should be diluted down especially wash water, toothpaste water, pee etc. I’m considering this lifestyle so I’m just trying to gather feedback. I was watching another channel and they were saying how much human excrement they found in their hiking.

@@LadyBugout that’s why I’m trying to gather as much info as possible before starting. I hope to start in another year. I don’t much like the idea but I’ve been think I just need to bite it and deal with a gray tank and just dump it at the appropriate locations. It really is challenging with leaving no trace in really what was pristine environments …. I worry about that. Since in general people don’t seem to care.

when i lived in a car i chose not to have most facilities in the car as in the uk we are not more than 3 or 4 miles from washroom facilities and hot coffee or microwave facilities etc
i chose not to have a cooking stove because i choose not to cook as cooking creates washing up etc
so i didnt need a kettle or saucepans or cooking ingredients or a fridge or a sink etx which makes life much easier and less complicated which gave me more storage which i didnt need etc lol as i used the 3 tub/bag storage system lol
all i has was tinned food which has long shelf life etc in the front footwell etc and water in 2 litre bottles etc
so no electrical or plumbing problems
i had a usb big zapper for the car
    a handheld usb battery bank
    and phone
thats all the electtronics i had to charge which made life easy

Once again your set-up is what I call ideal. I look at some of these other more complicated builds that are beautiful and very functional but very expensive, especially if you cannot build it yourself. If something breaks in them and you have not built it yourself once again very expensive. I used to enjoy backpacking because of its simplicity. I always packed the same things and away I went. I cannot backpack now because I need a CPAP. My little FIAT worked great as my tent replacement. I would love to go on an adventure with you sometime so we can compare ideas.

    a carlife vanlife tip
you can buy water in a
2 litre plastic bottle etc but after you use the water etc the empty bottle can become either
    a sink
    or
    a cup
to use an empty 2 litre water bottle as a sink mark the empty bottle equally in to 3 parts then remove the spout 3rd to use the bottom 2 thirds as a sink
and to use as a cup etc remove the top 2 thirds leaving the base of the empty 2 litre bottle of water as a cup but place your fingers carefully over the edge of cup for safety etc
and you can even use an empty 2 litre bottle of water as a shower if you remove 5mm off the base and put half a dozen holes in the botle cap and fill it with water etc
    all good fun

    Another great video. ❤️
I agree with what you said about a sink. I feel like having a sink and/or ‘proper’ running water creates more work with needing to store all that water plus the grey water. And then making sure those containers stay clean.
Plus, having less water easily available creates the desirable situation of _using_ less water. I find that when I’m at home, I use more water just because I can. When I’m out camping, I actively use less because I don’t have a choice. Using less water is a goal that we should have for everywhere.

Thank you very much for your detailed descriptions of the changes you've made to your van. The problem for me, as well as I'm sure many other people, is my need to actually see this thing's that your descriptions are referring to. Of course you understand exactly what you're talking about since you actually did all the changes. But if you don't visually show them, all your wonderful descriptions are (I'm sorry to say) fairly meaningless; or at least a lot less meaningful than they otherwise could have been if you'd provided better visuals of the updated versions of everything, instead of so much about the older versions.

Can you post some pics of your shower set up pls? Kind of hard to envision. You mention the showerhead attaches to a dog washer, I think that means a dog washer system with a pump? Is that correct? Then you also say it can connect to your faucet at the end. How does that work exactly? Thank you! I'm asking because I've been planning to buy a handheld shower unit (the orange one, not sure brand name)... that has a pump you put in a bucket or water source. Is that the kind you have? Gracias! ps what happened to your vlogs showing your travels??

    • @LadyBugout
      @LadyBugout  3 года назад

Hi Terri. I spray-painted it with a Rustoleum brand. I asked one of the Ace hardware people what would be best and they told me that and it matched perfectly to the ceiling color so I was happy. Only took a few hours once everything was taped up. It’s not perfect like a professional, but I was pleased with the result. I have to touch it up in some areas at times, but for the most part it has been durable!

I am now switching to something similar to yours, but can't use the same bed because my husband comes along sometimes and he would break that back! Do you have a video on your most recent shower set up? I'm thinking of doing a similar concept. There is a water tank you can add to the tow hook that is pressurized and that's what I'm looking to use as a hiding tank for my water supply. I love that you are using all 3 doors having some travel with you is so much easier since no one has to go all around the van to get in specially late at night or under bad weather. I'm looking to have a cassette toilet with a convertible storage concept. But I'm doing this more as a weekender not a full-time thing. Also having some swivel seats would be amazing in a micro conversion. If you have an email address I could share with you my plans.
