Me and my neighbor both have autism and she has a more severe case then me but I sometimes go over and help her mom out when she’s to stressed or needs to get stuff done.
Her crying broke my heart. I actually have tears. How frustrating to be upset and not be able to express why. You guys are doing A GREAT JOB. Period. She has a fantastic support team around her.
It was probably the hardest thing I ever went through(I had a cleft palate and autism), being so stressed but never being able to tell anyone,but when I told my friend that,they just said it wasn’t that’s hard to not be able to speak.Some people need education.
Yes flight attendants and airports actually offer support towards autism and other stuff like ADHD and stuff I’m autistic but learnt to write they help me a lot wen I flie

Yes! EXACTLY! Have two boys with autism, it's like this sometimes with us! They are my world, along with their sister and their dad! I don't know how I would get through this without their dad! I love them and am so proud to be their mom!
I can only imagine how she perceives the sounds of the airport, I don’t have autism, but even I find the airport environment overwhelming. She’s so strong! The whole family it’s amazing 💖

If they didn't take her places because she may have a hard time she would never leave the house and live in a bubble. It would be miserable for her because she likes to go. In fact on this flight the flight to Texas she did fine, it was only the flight back home that she had any major issues. Places she has been on previous occasions she enjoys and on subsequent occasions the same places and or experiences gives her sensory overload issues. So you would rather an autistic people person to stay in a bubble and not experience life? It would behoove you to do some research on autism and gain some understanding.
cutetsuna having worked with children on the Autism spectrum, I can tell you that they understand a tremendous amount and do respond to various forms of discipline. They can be ‘naughty’ just like any other child.
I guess most people didn’t expect Abby being an autistic girl, cause you can’t see it. So they get confused from her actions. Also all people started to be experts on parenting if a kid acts out. Suddenly they got all the right advices how you should regret. Even though they have no idea of autism or of Abby at all. I think you doing great. You guys always try to be calm and always try to be understanding and loving. For Abby it was super hart. And you absolutely did amazing.
Videos like this have 2 emotions for me first is sadness your all having a hard time but then proud when you all get through it and other people show true humanity around you.

I'm a special needs nanny/ educator. I have a master's degree in special education. As parents you guys rock. You're daughter is doing fantastic. To the other people who don't understand she cannot control her actions, it the same if you discipline for breathing you have to breathe. The majority of Autistic children have a high IQ. Think how frustrating it is to them, when they have something to say but can't communicate their thoughts. Their thinking what's wrong with you, I know what I'm saying why don't you understand me. Children that are autistic are hyper sensitive to noises and new surroundings. You're daughter is a treasure. Keep up the great work your doing as a family.

Thats a common missconception, they dont know what is going on, they dont have high IQ and cant conceptualize the world around them which usnt their fault (as with any disability or even any brain fuction) but romanticizing it in this way is incredibly dangerous and frankly wishful thinking. They can understand some commends and things but their brains just dont function the same way most people's do

Georgette Bershad you don’t look dumb at all! you know when a bus pulls up at a stop, and makes that sharp sound like air being released? that’s an air brake. it’s such a sharp shocking sound, and even though I know the bus is going to make the sound, it scares even me, and i’m neurotypical!
I hate any unexpected, sudden loud noise or movement. I'm a special needs adult (I've improved greatly over my almost 22 years) but I have hypersensitive ears/hearing so loud noise such as air brakes really bother me. I usually have to listen to the air brakes twice so I can time them and plug my ears so I can't hear them.
She handles airports and planes way better than I do, and I'm not Autistic. When she got upset, it was like watching someone express outwardly what I feel internally in that situation.
Being strong isn't a choice. It's what you are when it's the only choice you have. The truth is that you would manage. Not because you would be doing so well at this very moment. But if the situation appeared you would, because you have to.
That breaks my heart.. knowing how amazing of a mother Pricilla is but watching her face as you guys got on to the second plane and seeing how she felt defeated makes me want to cry.... Abby is beyond blessed to have you 2 as her parents
How does Abby react to sensory headphones?? We don't fly with my brother without them. He's not too sensitive to sound, it's most likely the pressure that helps to keep him calm
Abby doesn't like having things on her head (such as hats, sunglasses etc). In other videos where they try to get her to put something on her face or head, she pretty much immediately takes them off. Actually in this video, at around the 14:14 mark... she has headphones on but takes them off and won't put them back on.
Abbie at 14:45 when camp was mentioned bless her. She looked like she totally appreciated having something nice to think about. It's that feeling when you're so upset and someone you love is trying to cheer you up by talking about all your favourite things and you just can't help but smile. I so felt for her. These moments really help me understand how overwhelming a situation like that can be. Thank you for sharing these moments.
The guy who said you were awesome, was right. I once read something about children that said "they're not giving you a hard time, they are HAVING a hard time". The way you resonate that statement through your compassion and not giving the answers but acknowledging her feelings and anxieties is amazing. She is amazing for doing this. The feelings she must experience had to be so overwhelming. My baby girl is two years old and I hope to remain as compassionate as you towards her in all her challenges ahead. This really hit me hard but I have nothing but respect for you all. Thank you for sharing and caring so much for her.
every time she makes noises I tell myself "she's not yelling, she's talking in her style." this idea made me more understanding, I can say that. and thank you for making me better than a former me!
If people gets frustrated with Abbie's reactions....imagine being trapped in her body. Imagine how hard it is for her not to express how she is feeling...what she really wants. We just have to be sensitive and considerate.
I'm in England I have a teenager with disabilities similar to Abbie except he is also blind. I never had any idea that is what they were for thank you for that ☺️

I would totally be fine with the kid trying to touch my hair, I understand their setting guidelines for her but she’s also being impulsive in a close proximity situation, I have an autistic daughter and it’s extremely hard (a complete understatement because we don’t have any help or family). However even before my daughter I was always aware of special needs & felt compassion for anyone & families living with it. It can lighten the load by a stranger being kind and joking or being nice because as a parent you feel the looks of disdain & discontent as if you’re expected to fix something can can’t be fixed. Like a blind person wearing a T shirt announcing “I’m blind” bumping into things/people & hearing people become angry about “your problem”, that’s how it feels.
The brother must be amazing dealing with her the way he is he’s soo amazing. And even how he might not have a lot of attention and I’d want him as my brother tbh
I have a son with autism who is 12 and a daughter who does not have autism, she is 11. To watch her with her older brother when he is having a meltdown is so amazing. When you grow up knowing how to treat others with respect this is the kind of person, like Isaiah you get☺️
Despite it being hard, I love that Abbie gets to do all the things. People need to have real life interactions with all kinds of people and this is what allows us to build strong safe communities. Her smile makes me smile. Love the message of your videos and the strength of your family.
Watching this to be prepared myself. Abbie is an inspiration! My worst problem is the security and checks and I wear my headphones and have a wheelchair and have priority which means I get through quicker and I don't have to wait in a big queue. My fave is going to the airport shops and getting teddies
I'm terrifed of plane turbulence, I'm impressed with Abby on not freaking out as much as i usually do. I have extreme anxiety when it comes to things that are out of my control.
If you think about it, plane turbulence actually helps the plane fly as you're flying against the wind it brings more air over the wings. Where as if you fly with the wind it can increase the stall speed of the aircraft. Think of turbulence as a pothole when driving a car

Her smile warms my heart! My nephew was recently diagnosed with autism so finding yalls channel has really opened my eyes to this world and is helping educate me on how to interact with my nephew! I truly love watching y’all and love what y’all are doing !

The stranger that said “ she’ll be right “ I think I heard “mate” at the end as well, was most likely Australian honestly , they weren’t trying to tell you Abbi would be okay, we use it as a general comforting saying , pretty much it’ll be okay, she’ll be right mate stay strong. Hope you took it the right way :)
i had started to feel a cold coming on, with congestion and sinus pressure. then i had to get on a 4 hour plane..i thought my ear drums were going to burst. it was awful! i would have cried if i wasn't in the middle seat..
@@sandraarriaga832 Oh gosh I'm so sorry and to try to control the pain sitting in between 2 people must have been agonizing. I had my ear drum burst flying from the West coast to the East coast and had to go straight to the Emergency Room. The gave me a super steroid shot and antibiotics just in case and I had to stay put for 2 weeks then travel almost 3000 miles home by renting a car that took a week. It took me 7 years before I got the courage to fly again. The pain is excruciating for sure.

You did fab! As a parent my child just cried for an hour as her ears hurt I couldn't do anything and as a mum it made it so stressful. Nice to see more people being understanding nowadays. I remember 20 years ago my sister was crying and the airhostess asked my mum to keep her quiet!

This is one of my biggest issues with my son, it's so hard to go into public (he also has Crohn's and a genetic mutation...his meltdowns can get really bad) because we really worry about ruining other people's day. It's something we need to work on as parents. We have found lately, people are way more understanding and patient than we thought they'd be. Watching this channel has helped us (me for sure as I'm the step father and this was all new for me) and it's helped me to understand my son better, how to communicate better and for that I appreciate you. It's rough, but I wouldn't have it any other way
You might want to consider Amtrak depending on where you’re going. You can have a room to yourself. I have to take it to Cali with my son. Long trip but way less stressful.

My son has learning disabilities and has been diagnosed as not on the spectrum but has what we like to call “quirks,” and there are days where I feel exhausted and out of patience. I don't normally comment on your vlogs, but I just couldn't choose a "reaction" that felt right tonight. My heart hurt to see Abby having such a hard time; which meant a hard time for all you guys. Your pain from being unable to take hers away really hit me as a parent and I'm truly humbled by the raw, honest life you share with the world. All your love, energy and advocacy poured out for Abby and Isaiah on a daily basis, whether it be through triumphs or struggles, doesn't go unnoticed. I hope the coming days bring you all some much needed rest and a return to normalcy.
I don't understand how some people can't comprehend that people with disability may have a meltdown or just struggle at airports or on planes (especially multiple flights) I'm not disabled but flying does my head in. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for her. I'm just glad her family are this amazing and supportive
I cried just about the whole video because that is exactly how all my trips with my 2 brothers with autism are. It is so relatable for me and you hit the nail on the head with how they reflect your emotions. Diversions and redirects are key not discipline. Keep doing a great job we are all sending supporting vibes your way.
Just don't stare, don't teach parents what to do, don't talk with a child because it can escalate screaming and anxiety. If you want to say something to the family, just say "you are awesome, or you are doing well, or your kid will be fine". The worst part when strangers trying to teach parents what to do..
I think it really depends on the family and the situation. I've talked to a few parents who wanted some engagement with their child, especially because sometimes something a little different can help to distract the kid for a minute, especially if you're familiar with autism. I have come up and started talking gently with a few kids with autism, after chatting with the parents, and I was able to help distract the child for a few minutes which most parents appreciate.
Don’t stare and don’t say we need to discipline our children better. It’s very hard to have a special needs child and having people trying to correct our parenting with a special needs child makes it more stressful. Most of us parents already know we will get those reactions and block them out but a lot of newer parents that have an autistic child for 1 or 2 years don’t know how to react and it can upset a parent because we really do try to keep meltdowns and stuff at bay when we are out.
Oh, those air brakes ARE awful!!!! As someone with PTSD, they do a number on me. Poor girl must be so terrifying for her. She handled everything like a CHAMP! And y’all are so supportive and wonderful advocates. Your love gave her the tools to cope as much as possible. For most people the airport is a nightmare and they don’t face a fraction of the challenges of Abby’s world.
When you said let’s get on another plane so you can touch someone else’s head I started laughing. You all do was awesome so much love to you all BEST parents ever I drove special needs / bus for most of my 26 years believe it or not I miss my kids that I had 🥰🥰🥰🥰

I’ve traveled for work for over 20 yrs and there were times that I was overwhelmed. She did well! Travel days are long stressful days. Your videos bring more awareness keep it up
I couldn’t hold back the tears, because I know exactly what it feels like to want to bail! Then the guilt of wanting to bail takes over! It’s exhausting...beyond exhausting! But, I will tell you something; your family, your daily struggles, your triumphs are helping others see that WE ARE NOT ALONE!

I'm a special needs nanny/ educator. I have a master's degree in special education. As parents you guys rock. You're daughter is doing fantastic. To the other people who don't understand she cannot control her actions, it the same if you discipline for breathing you have to breathe. The majority of Autistic children have a high IQ. Think how frustrating it is to them, when they have something to say but can't communicate their thoughts. Their thinking what's wrong with you, I know what I'm saying why don't you understand me. Children that are autistic are hyper sensitive to noises and new surroundings. You're daughter is a treasure. Keep up the great work your doing as a family.

Thats a common missconception, they dont know what is going on, they dont have high IQ and cant conceptualize the world around them which usnt their fault (as with any disability or even any brain fuction) but romanticizing it in this way is incredibly dangerous and frankly wishful thinking. They can understand some commends and things but their brains just dont function the same way most people's do

I hate any unexpected, sudden loud noise or movement. I'm a special needs adult (I've improved greatly over my almost 22 years) but I have hypersensitive ears/hearing so loud noise such as air brakes really bother me. I usually have to listen to the air brakes twice so I can time them and plug my ears so I can't hear them.
She handles airports and planes way better than I do, and I'm not Autistic. When she got upset, it was like watching someone express outwardly what I feel internally in that situation.

How does Abby react to sensory headphones?? We don't fly with my brother without them. He's not too sensitive to sound, it's most likely the pressure that helps to keep him calm
Abby doesn't like having things on her head (such as hats, sunglasses etc). In other videos where they try to get her to put something on her face or head, she pretty much immediately takes them off. Actually in this video, at around the 14:14 mark... she has headphones on but takes them off and won't put them back on.

It's that feeling when you're so upset and someone you love is trying to cheer you up by talking about all your favourite things and you just can't help but smile. I so felt for her. These moments really help me understand how overwhelming a situation like that can be. Thank you for sharing these moments.

The way you resonate that statement through your compassion and not giving the answers but acknowledging her feelings and anxieties is amazing. She is amazing for doing this. The feelings she must experience had to be so overwhelming. My baby girl is two years old and I hope to remain as compassionate as you towards her in all her challenges ahead. I would totally be fine with the kid trying to touch my hair, I understand their setting guidelines for her but she’s also being impulsive in a close proximity situation, I have an autistic daughter and it’s extremely hard (a complete understatement because we don’t have any help or family). However even before my daughter I was always aware of special needs & felt compassion for anyone & families living with it. It can lighten the load by a stranger being kind and joking or being nice because as a parent you feel the looks of disdain & discontent as if you’re expected to fix something can can’t be fixed. Like a blind person wearing a T shirt announcing “I’m blind” bumping into things/people & hearing people become angry about “your problem”, that’s how it feels.

I have a son with autism who is 12 and a daughter who does not have autism, she is 11. To watch her with her older brother when he is having a meltdown is so amazing. When you grow up knowing how to treat others with respect this is the kind of person, like Isaiah you get☺️

Watching this to be prepared myself. Abbie is an inspiration! My worst problem is the security and checks and I wear my headphones and have a wheelchair and have priority which means I get through quicker and I don't have to wait in a big queue. My fave is going to the airport shops and getting teddies

I'm terrifed of plane turbulence, I'm impressed with Abby on not freaking out as much as i usually do. I have extreme anxiety when it comes to things that are out of my control.
Nicolette 20 yeah same it petrified me when there was turbulence on my way home from Italy with my school but teacher had to try and calm me down
If you think about it, plane turbulence actually helps the plane fly as you're flying against the wind it brings more air over the wings. Where as if you fly with the wind it can increase the stall speed of the aircraft. Think of turbulence as a pothole when driving a car

i had started to feel a cold coming on, with congestion and sinus pressure. then i had to get on a 4 hour plane..i thought my ear drums were going to burst. it was awful! i would have cried if i wasn't in the middle seat..
@@sandraarriaga832 Oh gosh I'm so sorry and to try to control the pain sitting in between 2 people must have been agonizing. I had my ear drum burst flying from the West coast to the East coast and had to go straight to the Emergency Room. The gave me a super steroid shot and antibiotics just in case and I had to stay put for 2 weeks then travel almost 3000 miles home by renting a car that took a week. It took me 7 years before I got the courage to fly again. The pain is excruciating for sure.

if you hold 2 styrofoam cups one over each ear creating a seal during take off and landing it totally help with ear popping. helpful trick with kids.

This is one of my biggest issues with my son, it's so hard to go into public (he also has Crohn's and a genetic mutation...his meltdowns can get really bad) because we really worry about ruining other people's day. It's something we need to work on as parents. We have found lately, people are way more understanding and patient than we thought they'd be. Watching this channel has helped us (me for sure as I'm the step father and this was all new for me) and it's helped me to understand my son better, how to communicate better and for that I appreciate you. It's rough, but I wouldn't have it any other way

I'm sorry Abbie had such a hard time, but I am so glad that she is surrounded by such a loving family who is invested in doing their best to help her.
I cried just about the whole video because that is exactly how all my trips with my 2 brothers with autism are. It is so relatable for me and you hit the nail on the head with how they reflect your emotions. Diversions and redirects are key not discipline. Keep doing a great job we are all sending supporting vibes your way.
As strangers what are some things we can do to help a family in this situation?
Just don't stare, don't teach parents what to do, don't talk with a child because it can escalate screaming and anxiety. If you want to say something to the family, just say "you are awesome, or you are doing well, or your kid will be fine". The worst part when strangers trying to teach parents what to do..
I think it really depends on the family and the situation. I've talked to a few parents who wanted some engagement with their child, especially because sometimes something a little different can help to distract the kid for a minute, especially if you're familiar with autism. I have come up and started talking gently with a few kids with autism, after chatting with the parents, and I was able to help distract the child for a few minutes which most parents appreciate.

Don’t stare and don’t say we need to discipline our children better. It’s very hard to have a special needs child and having people trying to correct our parenting with a special needs child makes it more stressful. Most of us parents already know we will get those reactions and block them out but a lot of newer parents that have an autistic child for 1 or 2 years don’t know how to react and it can upset a parent because we really do try to keep meltdowns and stuff at bay when we are out.
Oh, those air brakes ARE awful!!!! As someone with PTSD, they do a number on me. Poor girl must be so terrifying for her. She handled everything like a CHAMP! And y’all are so supportive and wonderful advocates. Your love gave her the tools to cope as much as possible. For most people the airport is a nightmare and they don’t face a fraction of the challenges of Abby’s world.
