I am impressed with your persistence to get this job done. I know garages who would just strip and break things then charge the customer for a load of new parts.
I'm not like that mate if I start a job I will finish it thanks a lot
You could save on ceramic grease if you only apply on contact areas. So, instead of the brake pad, apply to the fingers on the caliper. Likewise if you want to coat the piston instead of the back. With many jobs undertaken, it should go further.
I saw Eric O. do this and thought to myself - now that's a better idea and neater.
I was reminded of old VW type 2 van rear hub nuts. 3/4 drive socket, breaker bar with 5 feet of steel water pipe slid over it . Stand on the end of the pipe and bounce on it. Happy days (not).
Well done on the Golf. One of those jobs that went from bad to worse. You earned your money there.
Brillant Leon...reminded me of your older videos with the scrap yard ranting...and I'm in for the headcam vids....more the merrier...cheers mate....keep her lit 🔥
Lol ok thanks mate
Great video Leon. Definitely interested in seeing more with the headcam , maybe learn something more .
Nice to see customer spending money on an older car and not just binning it for something else.
Ok thanks mate
Great video Leon, I’d be interested in headcam footage. It would be great to see how you deal with things that would stump the rest of us.
Keep up the great work Fella.
Ok mate
Great video and also a good example of why I don't touch the brakes or suspension on my 2003 Leon. Had the rear axle replaced this year because it had rusted out - bet it was a right pain for the garage to do.
Definitely get a headcam. Can you remember what brand wheel bearing you bought and where did you buy the dust shield from.
SKF And got them from the motor factors
Wd and a wire brush comes in handy Leon and helps greatly with old rusty stuff matey
Cracking job under difficult conditions. Head cam would be good to either edit in the exciting bit when it goes or run it fast forward during the slower bits
Ok thanks mate
Great advice on the direction of the force on the bar
What a pain😭 head cam would be great.
Ok thanks mate
Good to see you back doing customer car videos again. Seeing another brake job is fine, and in the real world doing one can be fairly straightforward. However, it's when you hit issues like you did in the is one is where your skills and experience shine through. So that being said, I'd like to see the full job of what was involved to get around all that rust etc! Cheers
Ok mate
This reminds me when I had to replace the rear wheel bearings on a 2007 Beetle. The rear discs could be removed without taking off the caliper carrier. Changing the bearings was a cheap and easy job.
Boom
Nice one Leon great video 👍
Thanks mate
Great job, love that breaker bar, nearly need a step ladder to use it. Lol.
Thanks for sharing.
Great Vid Leon 👍
Thanks mate
Small point. When replacing the t 30 disc retaining screw. Put some copper grease on it.
good job mate as always
Thanks mate
Great video Leon. I'm say use the head cam, I like seeing the full and seeing the real world issues you encounter
As Leon say's pull down on breaker bar i recently pushed up trying to remove Vivaro wheel nuts ,bloody torn my shoulder !!
Nice job.
I was thinking, you could do with one of those camping tents that attaches to your tailgate for rainy days 🤔
Just looked on eBay, they are called Tailgate Awnings, they even have inflatable ones 😎
head cam, great idea, we would like to see all the detail, good video, thanks.
Boom . half sorted lol ... great video leon, BIG THUMBS UP
A big Fat Yes for head cam and it is a good and informative video thanks Leon and you need some of those interlocking mats that you can put together and have a nice comfy ground to kneel on
Thanks a lot of make yes I'm going to look into getting some of them
nice diagnosis mate , things were pretty crusty 👍👍👍
Go for the headcam, your videos are always really informative and from the struggle side of it we can all relate 🤣👌 but if the struggle takes ages, you can always time lapse it to speed it up 👌 great video bud, hope the new van is working a treat, stay safe and keep wrenching 🤙
Ok mate
Nice looking those backplates, I've painted mine recently so they don't end up the same!
Missus shouted I can't paint suspension white but that was only Hammerite I had left lol
I tend to grease caliper on those points where it actually makes contact with pads and on the piston edge, plus of course where pads meet with carrier, but as a diy'er I can faff around as much as I want 😂
I always learn something watching your vids, Leon. If thats VW, then I guess the Seats are the same, Ibiza etc.?
Great video like following your work, think you should use the head csm or a cam stand would like to see all your work 👍
Okay thanks mate
Head cam is a good idea because we can see how to remove difficult to shift parts.
Good thinking to order 2 , install the one that fits, practical thinking, i was there indeed...
Nice job Leon.
Thanks mate
Been there got the t shirt but without your experience, I did manage it eventually but jees what a pita, I now have a Skoda with same setup and I’m paranoid re keeping stuff lubed and capable of being undone, recently did the wheel bearing and Jees its tight
The joys of working on cars lol
+1 vote for the head cam - not boring! and you can always do time-lapse if you think it's boring
Ok mate
Goes to show you will never be poor if you own a scrapyard when they don't open at the weekend's and then tell you to come back another day.
Lol
Weekend openings would really help. This is why Ebay....
Got the same brake caliper rewind kit as you Leon! #sorted!
Boom sorted
Boom! Sorted! Well done! Also we've all had those jobs when something goes bad. You should check out me changing the rear wheel bearings on my Jag. Went completely wrong on the side I didn't film so I came prepared for the side I did film.
Boom lol
Leon a head cam would be great as it will show some tricks you do.
Great video Leon, hope the mobile business is working out for you.
Thanks mate
Great video Leon. Id definitely like to see any headcam footage fyi
Ok mate
Mate... I can across your rear disc change for a Kia Sportage when I changed mine... Been pretty hooked to your videos since but I definitely think a tripod or headcam (even a sped up time lapse) would be super helpful for anyone stuck in the same situation and improve the already quality content
Good job Leon:):)
Hi love the videos I have a question if you can help me I have a Skoda superb 2010 diesel and the high pressure fuel pump is leaking and I tried to get the seals cannot get them anywhere only new pump which is expensive have you any ideas thank you
Leon let’s give the head-cam a try. Let’s see how it works out. Nothing to loose. Go for it man great video on a cold day sorted cheers mate 👍
Ok mate
Yeah definitely the head cam on as I think it shows the real struggles you have especially to the customers
Didn't know the VW cars had splines, had to fight torx on Pugs/Citroens. The transporters (T5,T6) luckily have 19 (might be 21)mm bolts!
The joys of working on cars lol
Ive been going mental looking for the manual gearbox oil filler plug, for a peugeot boxer 230 2.5d year 2000. Any idea where i can get an idea mate? i cant even find a workshop manual.
A chest mount can work well, I find I can never aim a headcam accurately. Some great tips as ever in this video. I felt your pain!
Cracking mileage on that car, well done 👏
Boom
dobra robota
?
Good job well diagnosed 👍🏼
Thanks mate
Thanks for showing not all jobs go to plan, even more so when the customer needs the car back quickly.! Some head cam will be good but not too much Leon cheers. 👍🏽😎
Thanks lot mate my videos are not Hollywood the real world
I'm wondering , do you have an old-style impact screwdriver in yer kit Leon for those stuck button-head caps... it seems ro be a rare tool nowadays but in my biking days when all the engine case screws were phillips/pozi head it was a TOTAL neccesity for undoing them... one good clout of the hammer was all one needed to simultanously push the screw in & drive it anti-clockwise... 🤔
The original "cordless" impact... 😏
From the Emerald Isle
😎👍☘🍺
Hi Leon,
Would it be possible for you to put a "link" to what type of blow torch you used in this video.
Thanks Ian
Hi mate it all depends where you live would be too difficult for me to work that out all you have to do is to type in map Gas you will find your local supplier they are very easy to get hold of you will find them very close to you
Think headcam be good for certain jobbies.... great work and shows us whats involved.....
Ok thanks mate
Leon, the struggle is sooooo part of the job....thats were you professionals really strive, where we would stop....so the shit we encounter, and the doubts, make us youtubers, im guessing🍺🇧🇪
Film it-head cam. I feel your pain, reminds me of the days working at Stealership.
Well spotted Leon. It shouldn't matter if people want to spend their money on their car , better the devil you know. If its reliable then why not. Great video.
Exactly mates
Yes, film it! Struggling with bolts is the best part.
Ok mate
I've had to do a similar job in the past, except it wasn't the slider pin that f*cked, it was the bolt that fits the caliper to the carrier I think. Still a barsteward of a job, and on my hands and knees too! Yes, I want to see you struggle to, with added swearing would be good :-) !
Now that's funny , a scrap yard in Ireland that does not work in the rain. So they are only operational 30 days a year.
Lol
I think selected clips of the removal process would be interesting and useful as opposed to being boring, just so it gives those DIYers with less mechanical knowledge necessary tips and a chance to do the job when things don't go so well.
I have just had to beat and heat a Mazda 3 front disc that was all but welded to the hub. Needed several mechanics tricks to get the disc off.
OK thanks mate
Good going leon head cam would be a good idea
Ok thanks mate
Do the head cam and time lapse it that would be cool
Some jobs are fantastic finish in half the time and all bolts are easy to access and remove. Other jobs make you swear and want to set the car on fire and walk away
Abs is a nightmare on mk5 golfs....I had abs fault, changed abs ring fault still there, changed sensor still there.....turned out to be a corroded wire between abs harness and abs module...🙈🙈
Boom If you do omh test on the wiring rate it would have shown up straightaway And if you load the circuit with the test lights It was shown up just to let you now
It would be interesting if you could create a second video with the head camera as you fight with the the bolts. You could explain your thoughts while you fight with it.
People need to see what things are like in the real world.
Ok mate
Thumbs up for the head cam, mate.
OK thanks mate
the carrier slider thats snapped drill a hole in the outer face warm it up and punch it out still alot easier than taking the crrier off done loads it will come out with enough heat
Yes made that the problem is when they are this bad it pits the inside wall And the new slider never works properly
I think the headcam would be good for some awkward things, at least sometimes.
The things that probably catch most amateurs out are things like seized bolts and hard to reach areas, etc.
OK thanks mate
Can you link to your video on checking the pickup with magnetic paper?
Hey mate I will have a look I did try to find it but cannot find it but I will check again if I forget just put another message in the comment section and to remind me
I managed to find the video
ruclips.net/video/eheRCS2XSZg/видео.html
Nice job mate! A lot of people driving cars would not give a damn unless a wheel comes off - "i did not hear or feel anything till today..." Yup, it happened today - right 😎. Head camera would make your job faster and easier, especially for youtube filming, so do it. Thanks for the videos, which are great btw! BR Zlatko
Thanks mate
ABS Ring has gone on my S60 🙈
I’ve already had 8 Tonnes pressing on the drive shaft and it won’t budge , drive shaft stuck in 🙈
Have fun mate lol
Yes headcam please thanks
Ok mate
Head cam yes.... If you think the footage is a bit long winded you can always time lapse a few bits
I was surprised how much worse the rot is here in Ireland
Ok thanks mate
I like to see you use a head cam
Head cam would help the weekenders give them more of a clue.
Ok mate
Why do they use such tin metal for the dust shield
Unsprung weight Very important for breaks and
Yes, please film with your headcam if you can.
Ok thanks mate
Film it it's good to see them all
Ok mate
head cam would be good
The amount of grease on them pads is out of hand 😂
Grease the calliper piston and the two prongs on the others side of the calliper+the tips of the pad, I’d of got butched if I had put that much grease on as an apprentice. 😂
It looks a lot worse on camera very very thin amounts it will do no damage whatsoever
What happened the the garage mate
Look at my other videos mates i explain everything
Excellent video once again, but I just don't understand how people allow their cars brakes/discs to get into such a state, maybe I'm missing something, but hey ho, each to there own, said the sparrow sitting on the horses bottom waiting for a hot breakfast !!
Lol thanks mate
Go For head cam Leon.
Ok mate
thats just sods law the pin snapping leon
Boom lol
headcam yes that job a big no leon
Ok mate
Jeeze, enough with the head cam comments. Someone start a go fund me page to buy him a head cam at least. Jobs like that can harm your reputation when the car has to wait another few days for parts. I had this last week with a motorcycle and missing parts in the post twice. Hope the customer understands.
just have a tripod or smth, side view and few close ups would be nice
Hi mate tripod would get in the way
@@bodgitandleggitgarage I had in mind those small ones for phone/gopro, which you can hang over whenever you like. Its up to you tho, I enjoy your content anyway.
@@redpill2634 it would just get in the way I've tried these things before the head cam looks exactly where I'm looking but even that has its downfalls
Show the struggle, please.
Ok mate
Headcam mate
Get a tripod?
Who the fuck down votes this vid??
