- First video in the series. Sorry for the less than stellar camera work - it was all shot on a HTC One M8!
Today I was called in to rescue a job for a big client that wasn't going to plan.

This was a cool video, i usually skip lots of half hour videos, but this was so entertaining and interesting that I completly watched it and also learned some new stuff. Keep it up!
Yes, I'll try and make them a bit shorter in the future. There was a lot of backstory / intro in this which I won't need to do in the next one :)
Brilliant Video! Thank you for sharing your expertise and insight on this project. Looking forward to the next one!
subbed/liked
Thanks for this info. I'm totally new to Resolume, and need to use it for a business. Your video was straight and to the point. Greetings from Texas :)
I was surprised to see an AV video recorded in Dubai. I am also in Dubai and new on the VJ scene here.
Fastastic video dude. Very informative. Keep it up!
Thanks for the great video. I often wondered what software drove those big multiple screens - now I know! Looking forward to more stuff from you.
What an incredible insight in what you do and Dubai. Venue looked interesting. Thanks for sharing.
I Love this its cool, been waiting for something like this for years, cant wait for the next video
We were in Dubai during Ramadan 2017. It was quiet during the day but good for having a look around.
But at night the joint was jumping. Must have been you mate! We were staying at Dubai Creek.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing!
Very cool man. I was just searching for good videos on using Arena 5 to make my own visuals for an upcoming fest. Love all this stuff though, very interesting. Keep up the good work
Just wanted to say thanks for the video. I rent, sell and install LED walls to clients. I've been wanting to learn more about the programming end for a long time so I can better understand my clients needs. I've even purchased a copy of Resolume Avenue 4, and I'm buying some clips. Looking forward to watching more videos from you. BTW, if you are looking for a great camera that takes low light video and photos you should look at the DJI OSMO. I LOVE mine.
I bought a Panasonic GH4 and am very happy with it. I don't like that you need to use a phone with the Osmo, but otherwise, it looks cool.
Enjoyable experience with you and I thank you for adding that to the days involvement. The screen mapping in Resolume is a brilliant feature you show and the tip below to use math in the boxes will make for a smoother flow. This software may prove of use to me and the demo terms are not an issue - I'm sure your vid has a chance of inspiring budding 'dj'. as well as the less confident geeks!
Many thanks. Glad it was of some use to you.
Really nice work mate!
Great video! Very Informative!
Hi I am working on a tour by mapping with Resolume is my first time using 3 displays, a draft of 8040x800 prollectado 3 videos on a large canvas you would imagine, but that's not important.
need some advice, when I import the videos to run them resolume video bpm give it to me, for example 151 bpm and the resolume gives it usually 120 bpm when I run plays it slower, then you modify the bpm of project 151 and runs normal, but when I upload another video, say the following and comes with 127 bpm it runs very fast and entoces must return to change the bpm of the project, you know a function or setting to import my videos and run at the speed of origin without having to change the bpm video?
well you have one more subscriber saw your plx tear down and now this. Greetings from Phoenix, Arizona
DJ Lost One greetings back from Phx Az.
this video is epic, needs to be alot more vids like this!
+daniel s Thanks Daniel!
Nice videos but I'm always worried you are going to crash! That traffic is crazy over there. Keep the videos coming and see you on the EEVBlog.
Good, very good. Very simple and easy
this is awfully useful for me. great explanation on output mapping and technical problem solving in general
big up... helps alot.. its been explained but video helps so much hope to see ya out there
wow they have a load of pikey old crap on the top of the Meydan hotel. (i do wonder if they ever brought the rest of the infrastructure for the main LED screen, I rand 90% of the playback out of Resolume for the first season they had it as the expensive servers they were supposed to have had not been purchased)
My top tip for Resolume is that you can type maths into the number boxes - so you can just type "1152/2" rather than typing "576" makes it loads easer than having to use a calculator.
Hey, that's a killer math tip Tom - I'll bank that one!
Tom Bassford I was just going to comment at that part haha
Great tutorial man, thank you!
Great video, man. 998more to go!
Haha
Great! Man! Very Informative \m/
A good tip I have, right clicking on the input slice and clicking on match input to get you closer to the correct size.
Great Work
Hi James, I would love to have a vlog at the eclipse warehouse & with their team.
nice work The Bright Pixel. i would like to really learn how to do the mapping and all technical know how of the connectivity.... do you train people? would like to come learn
When do you create your videos from the video editor, do you need export your clips in the same dimention´s wall? or you can export that like a tradicional 1920 x 1080, and next in resolumen redimention in the mapping time.
Great video
Great video! Finding out you have 4 hours to make prime content work can be a stress fest. Obviously you have some fantastic experience, and I'm impressed by how cool you remained throughout. I've never used resolume (only Watchout and Pandoras Box), but it looks like a great, quick easy tool for non standard res content. Thanks for that tip, I will definitely download the demo and play with it.
Btw, your fellow tech next to you is using an APC 40. What was he using it for?
Looking forward to the next video, and sharing this one with my local tech community.
Thanks for the kind words Max. One of my mantras is that 'the only thing stress does - is stress you out' haha.
The APC 40 was being used by the VJ. He had it hooked into Arkaos. FYI you could also use it for Resolume.
Thank you sir.
From Nepal.
Sir Can U Help me to learn more about Resolume how Connected To DJs & Performance with proper Video Sync. I tried it but couldn’t get it properly, would really a great help if u can guide me on this.
Hi from fellow eever :)
Nice vid, will tune in for more.
At 16 minutes, did I see correct in the there is a wall wart on top of the three units, that has its' mains feed just taped to the live and neutral pins??
Haha, probably. Here in Dubai you stop noticing things like that. It's impressive that it's taped!
Great video mate! Was looking around at tutorials for resolume and was surprised to see your in Dubai. I'm also based here and haven't been able to find anyone who knows about this software. Do you give lessons or would it be possible to watch how you work on things? Currently trying to map resolume to ableton and would love to have a chat about all that. I'm In JVC so pretty central!
Hi Jake, sorry for the late reply. I am pretty busy lately and have been doing a lot of work in Europe and America, although my business is still based in DXB. This doesn't get me a lot of time to do one on one lessons. Look me up on facebook, where it's a bit easier to communicate.
hey! thanks for this video!
I wish you did more of these
Events rental - time pressure wuhooo 😂🎉
how did you compensate for the truss between the Right and Left? Would you need to have two more outputs and then two more slices?
Hi, I only have one question. What is the name of the class where I can learn about video mapping ?
The car ride was an excellent introduction to your channel.
A bit slow but as a first video it did fit quite well.
Make sure not to make Dave-length videos unless you also plan to be Dave-entertaining.
Best of luck.
much enjoyed ...like to know about your computer specs cause i faced a crash or two in the previews year .using Arena 5 and if you recommend another software to be suitable for a venue ??? thank you
+Ahmed Jafar I have Arena 5 running in multiple venues, and can confidently state that actually Arena has never ever crashed. I would be looking at the hardware for the problem, not software. You need a high quality machine to run shows reliably. This are the specs I use. Other people may use different for various reasons, but in my (vast) experience with resolume, this is what works:
1200w best in class power supply. Corsair, or similar brand. Asus motherboard. Do not use gigabyte, they fail without exception. Intel CPU. EVGA graphics nVidia. 970 or better. Quality ram. Use a conventional WD Black HDD for the system drive, not SSD. Use SSD for content only, and make regular backups. Make sure the case you use has great ventilation, and consider airflow when building the machine (don't block flow with messy wires, etc.)
first of all thank you for your Replay :)
i'm using a laptop Dell Latitude E6420 (3rd Gen i7 ,12g of Ram , NVIDIA NVS 4200M , 500g Seagate HDD ) maybe the Crashes got something to do with the Video Server ??
Great work man. I notice you have got another program running on your Macbook Pro for some of the loops. I know Arena chews through CPU usage. What is the other program you were using? Thanks
I don't use Mac at all, I use PC because they are much more powerful for much less money and I can customise the build for exactly what's needed. Resolume is not CPU intensive at all. It only uses CPU for effects plugins. It's much more important to have a powerful GPU a lot of memory and an SSD. The loops are just clips - no other software.
Oh, I just realised you're talking about Arkaos running on the in house VJ's Macbook at the end :)
awesome thanks!!!!!
Hey man great video but I have a question about it. You were doing mapping with three screen. So my question is that after mapping the three screen can I play different videos on each of the mapped screen. And yes can you please make a video of with triple head 2 go included. It's my humble request that if you don't make a video but please reply the solution for question
Yep, you can easily play different content on different screens. Just resize and move a dedicated layer onto each screen.
Subscribed. I do electronic engineering and I always wonder how these VJ LED screens electrialy work. Would it be possible to make video (or just answer me here :)) How the DVI cables are actually connected to the LED module, how they are daisy-chaned, powered, how that EDID over DVI works (if it is similar like on your PC that computer recognizes the resolution). Have that DVI cables coming from that 3 boxes some proprietarry LED screen protocol or is it standard video signal and you can directly connect LCD monitor with the same resolution like the LED panel?
Thanks a lot. Good luck with your videos adn Dubai looks interesting ;)
All good questions - maybe a more in depth tutorial of LED screens is in order. Short answer: The sender units send a proprietary signal over gigabit ethernet. You can't use a sender from one manufaturer with display panels from another. Panels are linked in series and need to be configured with individual addresses. Each screen module has a decoder and a driver which does pixel control using PWM
thx for video sir,one of the question is that sir,,if i have more than 3 screen, with different resolution than how can i do presents in event ..
It's the same process as described in the video. Very easy to do.
Panasonic X920 is pretty good. It has surround sound and if that sucks for your application than just use a zoom h1 to send the audio to the camera (it has input).
It is not the newest model but the video and audio quality is excellent. It weighs ~400 grams.
Thanks for the info Thijs. I will indeed check that model out. Easy enough to downmix surround in software. However at this moment I am about to pull the trigger on a GoPro for the out and about stuff, and a Panasonic Lumix GH4 for the tech bench review stuff :)
The Bright Pixel The x920 can do both those things =)
***** True, but I'm liking just how tiny and unobtrusive a GoPro can be.
look at the replay xd. It is cheaper , uses "real" lenses inside and is supposed to directly output tv quality pictures.
Here is a podcast with the company founder in it. He talks about the differences between the two camera's (not marketing bs)
shoutengine.com/TheSmokingTire/replay-on-racing-5519
I myself have the Hero 3+ black and I'm pretty pleased with it. The battery life sux tho at around 60 minutes at the highest settings and the quality is mediocre. I would prefer the x920 but that would be a bit silly to mount that on my motorcycle helmet.
If you buy the gopro than also buy a 2axis quadcopter gyro gopro thingy (20-40 usd on ebay) for it and duct tape it to a stick. The gyro will stabilize the footage in two axis and give out really nice quality while walking / moving.
There are plenty of yt movies about that thing.
thanks
nice video
Is there a way to do the three slices (span all three screens) and also be able to switch to a single slice where the entire video shows up on all three screens (duplicate) like for a logo? Basically I would like to span 3 monitors or duplicate all three for different pieces of content?
The 3rd party chaser plugin can do all this and more
hello, will love to meet u when I'm in Dubai rally love your reviews.. thanks
What's Dubai rally?
really! sorry about that
Camera Sony S7 series great for low light
Thaks... From Russa!)
Hi, what about now? what kind of chance are you introducing in your work. i star learning now.
asyiiik
At the minute 33, what is the second software playing on the laptop to the left? And where can I find such visuals playing on it?
The software is called Arkaos VJ. I recommend motionloops.com to people new to VJing to purchase visual packs to get them started. Collecting visuals is like collecting music. It's a long, time sinking, process to build up a nice collection.
The Bright Pixel wow thanks for the quick reply. Sorry to bother you with another question, I’ll understand if you don’t answer coz I’m sure ur busy. But why not also use arena for those visuals, why two softwares, also how are they connected to the same output/screen?
@@ousamanaber No probs. As I explained in the video, the venue had an existing rig in house, and I was called in for a special event. The in house guy used Arkaos. I prefer Resolume because Arena has great mapping features. I installed a Kramer matrix switcher just for that gig, so we could switch between my rig and the in house rig.
The Bright Pixel brilliant thank you so much 👍🏼😊
Nice one Ants ^_^
+reachvisuals Cheers Andy!
+The Bright Pixel I just starting working with Resolume ;-) After many years of VDMX !!! I have to say its works very nice.........
Yes, I really like it. I've been using it on and off since it was a beta project and it's been amazing to see how far it has developed. And the DXV codec is very nice also.
Hi guy, I ask you a question, I have an msi with a gtx 1060 and it generates compatibility error with resolume, something I can do?
If it's a laptop it is probably trying to run Resolume with the on board graphics. Make sure you right click resolume shortcut and select 'run with nVidia' or similar.
I know its been a while since this video was added. Since then Resolume has layer routers that can be launched like a clip that can turn one large video across many screens into duplicates without delay or latency.
Yep, but that achieves the opposite of the intention in this video, which was to make 3 smaller screens one big one. Also, the Chaser plugin is very cool for what you are talking about.
Do you 150 euro plugin Joris wrote? Anyway I use layer routers to take a hd 16:9 image and turn it into a single 16:3 or 3x 16:9. You wouldn't even need a layer router for a native 16:3 image so I can't see how a modern install of Resolume can't handle the needs for the situation at that venue. Ofc 2 years ago Resolume was older.
Sorry, I'm not sure what you're trying to say? Did I pay for the Chaser plugin? Of course I did. Would I use layer routing instead of output mapping if I had to do this project again now? No, I would still use the same method I show in this tutorial.
I was just trying to clarify what chaser plugin you were referring too as since the one I know of written by Joris from Resolume (150 euro's) doesn't have that much to do with the topic besides having a drop down to choose what layer you want to use for the effect.
trev trev You started talking about "one large video across many screens into duplicates". This is why I mentioned Chaser, because that's what chaser is for - old school video wall effects, quickly jumping from full screen to duplicates and everything in between. Using layer routing on a show that has one clip and one layer with no effects? Can't see the sense in it.
i cant get the sound in my resolume arena to work its on windows the sample graphic that comes with it the sound work but when i convert any video it don't play the sound i need some help i try different converter and its the something
Render your videos as DXV without sound. Then render the sound out as Wav files. Drop the video files into your project, then drop the wavs onto the same slots as the videos. This is the best way I've found to use audio in Resolume.
Could Resolume be used for high end corporate shit? Like Galas with a single screen, 3 PJ blend? With powerpoints and IMAG type shit mixed in? I use watchout now, but it's high dollar. In other words, would Resolume be good for tightly scripted, elegant types of events requiring slides and PIP,, not just balls out flash and trash?
Absolutely. Download the free demo and play with it.
Thank you master, what are the specifications of the resolume pc what gpu? Sorry My english.
This was 3 years ago now. It was an i7 4790k and 2 x GTX980ti
The Bright Pixel Thank you very much for your help, resolume is capable of supporting multigpu? sorry my english I am using google translator
Is much better to buy 1 x GTX1080ti. Multi GPU is not well supported. The machine used in this video was also used for CAD rendering and video editing - this is why it had 2.
thanks really like video pro master more exit
What was the software running on that laptop to the left at the end of your demo vid?
Arkaos
thank man..thats what I thought...this video was great...and pretty funny...those fans lol
I think the only thing keeping them up was gravity!
Look your honest commentary...
What midi controller are you using?
AKAI APC and also iPad running TouchOSC
where is your "Hold onto your Technics video???"
The Bright Pixel Thank you for the honest answer!
why u not said , that for each phisical output need the creat Screen X with layers if its independent output. bcose if u use Matrox Th3 - i got 1 wide scree.. if u need to show 3 independent output signals with layers, need the create 3 Screens with slices ))
+Visual Hi-Tech Systems Group I explain this clearly here: 25:47
+The Bright Pixel ok, sorry, my apologising
No problem :)
amigo como colocar textos e legendas para resolume?
Lo siento. pequeño Espaniol
But how to connect 3 LED Wall Processor to one PC and make one big screen
Bro can you list your computer specs and the video equipment list?
Computer was i7 4790k, 32 gigs of ram and two GTX980s in SLI. This video is pretty old now though. Video kit was just an Extron switcher going into the videowall.
Thanks
el bote
I am looking for someone in New York city to help me understand and learn resolume.
Hey James field Is there any way to do a consultation with you? Contact me please a have a fee questions.
I am now based in Ibiza. Send me your email in a Direct message.
LED处理器硬伤 ! LED不怕下雨么?
Black magic ursa mini
+West Republic Yep, they make some cool products
+The Bright Pixel I will getting mine in 3 months almost have the budget
Spend a million bucks in equipment to build a fixed venue on top of hotel. Spend no money on roofing to protect said millions of dollars of equipment. #logic
The fact that it's an open-air club is one of it's best features. Looking at the night sky and city skyline from the dancefloor was pretty amazing.
