Question: Does electron still take dmg when he puts that shield up when the 2nd boss comes out? As a warlock curse of doom will still have time left and it seems more beneficial just to leave it on the target after the new one comes out if it will take full dmg and just wait till doom ticks to apply it to the new guy.

Yes! and I believe only direct attacks will trigger the negative shield effects, so you should be fine to put up curse of doom, although each golem is only active for about a minute so you'll be cutting it close.
just be careful about dooming magmatron - his shield is an absorb that blows up if he takes too much damage. so probably avoid that one
