Glad to have been tagging along! What a cool job, and I definitely appreciate the challenge of shooting volume. Hard work, but worth it for a day on the beach!
You're a great vlogger, Gary! I like this style of video (along with your others too)! Makes me want to go on a cruise again. Plus, I learned a thing or two! ;-)
Oh, I do have questions, but I'm not sure you'd like to answer them here. Curious, how much do you charge a company for something this? Were you tethered? Capture one? Anything added or changed in your contract for a cruise ship? Camera settings- I'll watch your other videos for that. :-)
My prices are on my website if you want to see them. This was billed as Event Headshots - Hughesfioretti.com - definitely shooting tethered into Capture 1. Camera settings F5.6 1/125 - ISO 250 I think. Thanks for watching
That's awesome. I've been cruising a lot in the past year and kinda thought it would be a cool photography gig. But I'm not sure I'd dig shooting on a moving platform all the time. This gig would be very cool. The vendor/passenger thing sounds a bit tedious. But I'm pretty envious.
Gary, Do you ever have any problems with Godox misfires? I recently started using several battery powered Godox flashes , 200’s and 400’s, with my Nikon camera, and I’m missing shots due to the controller or flash units sleeping. Really painful. Ever have this problem? And what is the solution?
Sure, it's one of the disadvantages of the cheaper brands, they don't fire as consistently as a Profoto or Elinchrom. Make sure to look at the user manual to turn sleep off on your remote and flashes and that will eliminate a lot of the issues. In addition, train yourself to shoot at the right pace so you don't have misfires because you didn't wait for the unit to recycle completely. I have great success with the 200s and deal with the odd misfire (maybe one in 30-40 shots),
I mostly used the Canon R7 with the RF 15-35mm. I am getting used to adjusting for the "wobble" caused by the IBIS system and will be able to avoid it next time
Question: For the lights behind the subjects were those to just add a kiss of light for consistent gray on the x drop or what it to act as a hair light? Thanks for the video!
You can get several different effects depending on the angle. Just season to taste. The background ended up being replaced on all those images, so I favored the edge light over lighting the background
Did you know the background was going to be changed? Is light gray the color you go for if you know the background is going to be changed? Or do you tailor it to the color it is going to be changed to? Any other considerations to make the swap easier? 🙏
We actually talked to quite a few of the photographers on the ship and the island. Most were pretty young and green, but we were happy with the photos, just a cool way to document the adventure.
Thanks for checking out the video, let me know if you have any questions!
"Chicken of The Sea" 😂 Great video Gary.
Glad you enjoyed it
Man you guys really do work hard…
Good change of pace especially for headshots.
It was definitely a unique one

@@GaryHughesOfficial Thanks, Gary!
Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Seems like a nice change of pace! Love the shots you got, too. Very cool. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Having to re-board twice seems like a pain but hey, free cruise!
Exactly.
Great vlog Gary, awesome work and what a gig !
Yes it was! Very unique for me.
Hey Gary, fun video! I'm curious if you'd be willing to share what your preferred portable backdrop is for a job like this?
Not a problem. I use the Wescott X-Drop system.
Thank you for sharing Gary. I do always enjoy watching your videos.☀
Glad you like them!
Dave!!!
Lol, it is much more fun to have someone with you on these types of videos.
That's me :). What a great trip!
What umbrella do you use?
That video it’s the Paul C. Buff PLM 54”
@@GaryHughesOfficial I would’ve never guess 😂😂. Thanks!

The ship is so big, you can’t even tell when it’s underway. It’s basically like a sleepover at a fancy shopping mall.

@@GaryHughesOfficial Thx for the tips.
no problem
Great video and interesting gig! Wondering what camera you are using for vlogging?

@@GaryHughesOfficial were you hand holding most of the time?
yes, definitely. No gimbal, just free hand. It is actually pretty great for that, but you gotta zoom in to about 18-20mm to avoid the wobble
Lol those photos at the end 😂. Elley wants to know if you rode the hot air balloon?
Not this trip, no :(
Do you have or can you show your total setup for the photos, lighting setup and how you get your exposure? Enjoy your videos, thanks for doing them.
I don't have a video that exactly lays out the setup in detail, but you can see it pretty clearly here ruclips.net/video/jJmXw6qMiCE/видео.html

I say the photographer on wonder of sea where novice level we had 40 different shots dune and got 10 I train photographers and would not hire any one
