I am very impressed with the review. Phonedog is the ONLY place to go for phone reviews and comparisons. It seems that they can be impartial and give a honest review. Thank you Aaron!!!
I like the way you pronounce route as Rout 1 and 2. You type as fast as you speak. I'm an Android user that loves snooping on the competition. Great videos as always Aaron.
I liked your review. You are one of the only people I've seen give an unbiased review of the phone. I watched engadget's review too and they were praising this phone like it came from heaven. Nice job
I'm curious, did you do a really good job at editing the video and make several different cuts, or did the battery life literrally drop like a rock during this 30 minute review?
When it comes to battery it is all about how the OS manages the resources. So if the OS manages its resources in an efficient manner you don't need the giant battery and then you can reduce the items signature. I used my iphone 5 pretty heavily thru the day and I went from 4:30AM to 9:30PM and had 15% batt life left. That works for me, but as a big Apple fan I can't see going wrong with picking up the Galaxy S3. Both of these phones are a good purchase.
No, you've mistaken me. I see and agree with your point, however both the iPhones and the Vu have 4:3 aspect ratios, not 2:3. (2:3 is still more rectangle than 4:3)
Aaron I think you hit the nail on the head at the end of the video. People have to get away from the mentality that apple is the end all be all of cell phones. I'm still dumbfounded til this day how they managed to sell any iPhone 4s when it was clearly just a "hey we release a phone every year and we aren't prepared so let's just throw something together and release it"
And the only reason I say "I think" is because I wasn't sure with iOS 5.1.1, which gave me lag issues and made it hard to tell if it was touch responsiveness issues or just lag.
This is the honest review I have seen on the net, I used to love the iPhone switched to the Galaxy S3 and I don't see myself switching back iOS looks dated at this point compared to ICS and Jellybean Apple really needs to switch things up for the next iOS update and iPhone.
No, Google Wallet is for actual transactions, PassBook is like having a list of gift-codes& frequent flier miles. PassBook doesn't actually interact with another device, if I'm not mistaken. Google Wallet replaces credit/debit cards in most stores, you can tap your phone to the register and it pays automatically, but does not keep track of frequent flier miles&gift-codes. Hope this helps :)
Okay, so I'm coming from a mytouch 4g slide which is absolutely horrible..the only good thing about it is the camera which already had the panorama option. Now I'm about to upgrade but I'm at a crossroad. Should I choose the iPhone 5 or the Galaxy S3? Which is better?
something he didnt go over that no one has talked about, do you have to buy a new nano sim card when you buy the iphone 5 or does the nano sim come with the phone?
Thank you Aaron for that honest review, I've read some reviews about this phone and big tech sites like engadget and cnet are eating this phone up and praising the iPhone 5 as a misia of all phones
Aaron can you explain to me one thing? I'm in the UK and we don't have LTE yet. But ATT were called their HSPA+ 4G were they not? Well saying this, we've had 4G for a while now if that's the case. I've been striking 10-15MB/s since the days of 2010 here in Scotland with HSPA+ from ThreeUK. I'm just a little confused about ATT cause to me, LTE is true 4G. Am I not correct?
I still like it I think it will be great, every thing has bugs at first was hoping for more software but an beautiful device looking forward to getting one
It's an awesome phone but they need to improve maps and deal with quality control at whatever factory is building them. I think they rushed the release of it slightly.
Aaron, I noticed the ATT iphone 5 had M-Cell in the corner. Why do you have an MCell? does it improve data speed? and does the MCell support LTE or only 4G
I just got another iPhone 4s on Verizon's network here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Having come crom Sprint, I think I made a wise choice. Im still in my grace period to make an exchange. I'll be in this contract for two years. Should I keep the 4s or go for the 5?
also can u dogfight against the 4s ?? i know its a nobrainer but considering how there is not much dif except a6 and lte . . .or for an existing 4s owner ( off contract) , do i really need the 5 ??
Great review both parts. The only thing I have issue with is that all reviews keep saying the iPhone 5 maps have problems. The reality is it has nothing to do with the phone but with the iOS. How do I know? Because i still have the 4s and I have the exact same map problems. Apple will fix it like they do everything else. I will get the 5 I have owned every iphone that has been made. The other thing is I like having to enter my password to purchase. If someone got you phone they could break you.
Depends on what you need if you like to customize and have a lot of control over your phone and want the best camera get the s4 but if you want something that's simple to use and has a good design get the iPhone 5 but I would suggest u get a galaxy s3 to feel the wonders of the customizable OS and get an iPod for games and music but that's just me
I'm not sure why the GS3 takes so long to charge, I mean, on ParanoidAndroid Rom the charging dramatically improves, 30 mins on charge gives me 50% at least. But you're right, stock rom on GS3 is soooo slow.
i just saw this iphone 5 go from 92 percent to 80 percent battery in about 15 minutes. doesnt look that good to me in the battery department, i have a galaxy s3 and it goes down 10 percent in about an hour of moderate to heavy use with lte as well so how is it better??
why is it that like literally everyone on this planet only gets hspa+ speed (around 21 mbit/s) with their lte-phone? are there any major cities where you can actually make use of lte?
@chrisak49 actually no i feel the gs3 is better bcuz A. android has been offering LTE for how long? B. android has been offering bigger screens how long? C. android has offered panorama how long. D. androids UI is far superior E. android is no longer laggy
I love Android and I'm on Android's side, but I'll see how well iOS can do once my contract is over. Only problem I can find are the packaging issues and the headphone jack at the bottom instead of the top.
When the iPhone was revealed in 2007 apple said it was about 5 years in-front of the competition. Which they were correct. Now its 5 years in the future from 2007 and I believe they didn't change enough to keep the iPhone 5 years in the future
How come all the phone reviewers are moving down here to Dallas?? You trying to get closer to Sydney(still employed at phonedog?) or Lisa from MobileTechReviewer? Shit Im here too. Give me a job! all I need is a better hd camera haha :-D
Waiting for the Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5!!!! I personally go for the S3 but just something I want to see. Especially since the S3 is getting the Jelly Bean update today.
Well the company I work for provided me the 4s. And I made them get the battery pack! lol I had a blackberry for personal use but carrying 2 phones was a challenge so I only have the company phone now and since its on unlimited plan I can use it for personal business as well.
i had the droid razor maxx hd best phone ever but i dropped it in the lake and its at the bottom of the lake i am thinking about getting the i phone 5 cause of the life proof case i like android over apple
The galaxy s3 is probably the better phone, but its the music (gapless playback), and app selection that keeps me coming to apple. I've owned a ton of android phones, tried different music players aside from stock, and then end up being buggy after a few hours(I listen to about 2-3 hours of music a day). And then there's the apps, which are a hit or miss. Not to mention the updates that take forever if it's not a nexus (which are unfortunately always lower spec'ed than every current android)
How is scratches and problems not expected from Apple? They had scratch problems with previous devices, the antenna problem with the 4 and many other problems with initial releases from Apple. So this is the norm
Thats really the point, Apple tends to offer less features on the i phone but its more polished, fluid and easier to use making it reliable, the reliability of an i phone and ease of use is the main selling point imo, but with JellyBean, the OS is now just as fluid on Android. To me, Android has now gone far ahead of iOS which up until the 3GS, was the leader in anything smartphone. One thing good point about i phones though is that they dont drop value as fast meaning high resale value
The only thing Apple has over other operting systems is the look. Its georgous . thats it
Bigger 4.5-8 inch phones used to look goofy to me when i was into the Iphone 4s, but now they seem just fine.
I am very impressed with the review. Phonedog is the ONLY place to go for phone reviews and comparisons. It seems that they can be impartial and give a honest review. Thank you Aaron!!!

I liked your review. You are one of the only people I've seen give an unbiased review of the phone. I watched engadget's review too and they were praising this phone like it came from heaven. Nice job
Excellent review, its been awhile Aaron but I think you're back. Now if only you could change the phone dog website look that would be great!
I'm curious, did you do a really good job at editing the video and make several different cuts, or did the battery life literrally drop like a rock during this 30 minute review?
Aaron, you are the best doing the I Phone 5 review I ever hear and you are being honest about it.
Awesome review Aaron!!! Glad you and Lisa from MobileTechReview give real, unbiased reviews of the iphone.
Great review, I return my 5 and wait till next year I guess the OS needs to get an overhaul, or at least an option
This is one of the best reviews I've seen. Great job Aaron!

That works for me, but as a big Apple fan I can't see going wrong with picking up the Galaxy S3. Both of these phones are a good purchase.
were the software issues resolved?
i notice the scratch very quick on the bottom near the charging slot, wow premium material now equal to a cheap plastic back on sgs3.
No, you've mistaken me. I see and agree with your point, however both the iPhones and the Vu have 4:3 aspect ratios, not 2:3.
(2:3 is still more rectangle than 4:3)
Thanks Aaron for the iPhone update video, I think I will wait for the iPhone 6.
I have been using iphone5 for 2 in a half weeks now and i simply love it!!!!
Aaron I think you hit the nail on the head at the end of the video. People have to get away from the mentality that apple is the end all be all of cell phones. I'm still dumbfounded til this day how they managed to sell any iPhone 4s when it was clearly just a "hey we release a phone every year and we aren't prepared so let's just throw something together and release it"
Phonedog is coming to Dallas, sweet!
Great, honest review. Thanks. I was considering an iPhone 5, but now I think I'm going to wait for either the next Galaxy or the next Nexus.
I think the touch responsive issues are software-related. I have an iPod touch 4G with touch issues that I never saw before until I upgraded to iOS 6.
Great review had me tuned in the whole time
And the only reason I say "I think" is because I wasn't sure with iOS 5.1.1, which gave me lag issues and made it hard to tell if it was touch responsiveness issues or just lag.

I come to phonedog for all phone info aaron u da man
something he didnt go over that no one has talked about, do you have to buy a new nano sim card when you buy the iphone 5 or does the nano sim come with the phone?
Hey,
Aaron I was wondering which you recommend the iphone 5 or samsung galaxy note 2?
Thank you Aaron for that honest review, I've read some reviews about this phone and big tech sites like engadget and cnet are eating this phone up and praising the iPhone 5 as a misia of all phones
WoW this was the most amazing i5 review very honest i have just got so much more respect for aaron
Aaron can you explain to me one thing? I'm in the UK and we don't have LTE yet. But ATT were called their HSPA+ 4G were they not? Well saying this, we've had 4G for a while now if that's the case. This is a great review. Being real and no fanboy like behavior.
Does the "lightning" connector affect syncing speed at all? Does it have any additional functionality?
Great review Aaron.
It's an awesome phone but they need to improve maps and deal with quality control at whatever factory is building them. I think they rushed the release of it slightly.
I like the comparison to rim... rim was on top for many years but never evolved.... Best review... Sound comparison from speakers vs sgs3 please?
i got the static thing and responsive issues with the upgrade to ios 6, as well as auto brightness problems on the 4S... Same with the iPhone 5.
Aaron, I noticed the ATT iphone 5 had M-Cell in the corner. Why do you have an MCell? does it improve data speed? and does the MCell support LTE or only 4G
With the iPhone's you gotta do most of the things through iTunes? I'd get one maybe but really can't stand iTunes.
yeah thats cause aaron has actually used and carried both iphones and android devices in the past. can't get any more unbiased than that
I just got another iPhone 4s on Verizon's network here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Having come crom Sprint, I think I made a wise choice. Im still in my grace period to make an exchange. I'll be in this contract for two years. Should I keep the 4s or go for the 5?
MaeSekou What did you end up doing?
Good Objective analysis. Thanks.
also can u dogfight against the 4s ?? i know its a nobrainer but considering how there is not much dif except a6 and lte . . .or for an existing 4s owner ( off contract) , do i really need the 5 ??

Nice one Aaron. A very fair review.
Right Bro! you forgot to mention that you can color the house(use cases)...
Depends on what you need if you like to customize and have a lot of control over your phone and want the best camera get the s4 but if you want something that's simple to use and has a good design get the iPhone 5 but I would suggest u get a galaxy s3 to feel the wonders of the customizable OS and get an iPod for games and music but that's just me
A thought. lighter & thinner wouldn't it be better if they increase the battery capacity?
iPhone 5 is actually really good!! Should I get the 5 or gs3?
I upgraded from a iPhone 3G and now the iPhone 5 and i love it!!
my thoughts exactly! you could not have said it better
I'm not sure why the GS3 takes so long to charge, I mean, on ParanoidAndroid Rom the charging dramatically improves, 30 mins on charge gives me 50% at least. But you're right, stock rom on GS3 is soooo slow.
Good review Id still stay with android though I'm waiting for the next nexus phone
Yes it has an LTE toggle just like there used to be a 3G one.
Exactly same with me.. Will wait for note 2 review
Is 1.2 gb of data each month alot? Just wondering since thats what i have..
i just saw this iphone 5 go from 92 percent to 80 percent battery in about 15 minutes. doesnt look that good to me in the battery department, i have a galaxy s3 and it goes down 10 percent in about an hour of moderate to heavy use with lte as well so how is it better??

Great review
You're moving to Dallas???
Welcome back!!!
Nice review
If I got a iphone 5 and it was all scuffed up I'd be calling and be questioning bc that's not acceptable :/
Toni M I was just saying the same thing.
Had an HTC thunderbolt got an iPhone 5 love it
Great review!
@chrisak49 actually no i feel the gs3 is better bcuz A. android has been offering LTE for how long? B. android has been offering bigger screens how long? C. android has offered panorama how long. D. androids UI is far superior E. android is no longer laggy
the best iphone 5 review packed with info
should i upgrade to the iphone 5 from a motorola photon 4g?
I'm coming from an iphone 3gs so i'm definitely going to get it! If i was coming from a 4s though, i wouldn't.
I love Android and I'm on Android's side, but I'll see how well iOS can do once my contract is over. Only problem I can find are the packaging issues and the headphone jack at the bottom instead of the top.
lol i was apple store to day hurt alot of people said the home button stuck
When the iPhone was revealed in 2007 apple said it was about 5 years in-front of the competition. Which they were correct. Now its 5 years in the future from 2007 and I believe they didn't change enough to keep the iPhone 5 years in the future

i had the droid razor maxx hd best phone ever but i dropped it in the lake and its at the bottom of the lake i am thinking about getting the i phone 5 cause of the life proof case i like android over apple
Why are people so surprised of Panorama feature? That's been out for like 3 years now.
my crappy Android 2.1 have it and I really never used it.
I'm getting the iPhone 5, hopefully. Or at least iPod touch 5g and a lower end android phone :o
Kind of excited for the iPhone5 vs GS3 dogfight...
I like your sites reviews.
Aaron you are the best reviewer!
If you decide to get the note, may as well wait for the note2 to come out
What should i get iphone 5 or galaxy note please comment and tell me
The galaxy s3 is probably the better phone, but its the music (gapless playback), and app selection that keeps me coming to apple.
Sprint is underrated...iv the Samsung galaxy 3 on Sprint and many phone speeds are lighting fast in LTE 20 MBITS PER SEC AND FASTER
How is scratches and problems not expected from Apple? They had scratch problems with previous devices, the antenna problem with the 4 and many other problems with initial releases from Apple. So this is the norm
One of the top 3 phone reviewers on the internet.
The 3d option is only available on the iPhone 5 and 4s ):
Aaron is easily my favorite reviewer...I really wish I could be him.
Bad luck brian would like to see iphone have wider screen. But found it gettin taller with shit same width with his old iphone 4.
I am glad your going to to address apples issues I have an iPhone 4 but I am not no fanboy if its has an issue I am going to tell the people I know
Galaxy S4. The Full HD SuperAMOLED screen will blow you away. It'll also come in 16, 32, and 64GB models.
note 2 will be better then all of those. just might be to big.. but if ntoe 2 fits in my pocket im getting it
TomTom only provided mapping data, they had nothing to do with building the maps app, that's Apple in-house development.
Thats really the point, Apple tends to offer less features on the i phone but its more polished, fluid and easier to use making it reliable, the reliability of an i phone and ease of use is the main selling point imo, but with JellyBean, the OS is now just as fluid on Android. Awe I miss nc and sc I used to live there :(
Got there, but not over the line.
4:3 aspect ratio.
