My husband currently works for Shell & has worked on Perdido, Olympus & Petronius... We have some truly awesome pics of how massive these rigs really are... It's mind blowing.
It appears the narrator doesn't differentiate or know the difference between a drilling rig and a production platform and has little knowledge about the subject. Just calling an offshore structure an 'oil rig' without differentiating does a disservice to the people and technology. Some clarifying points. The Bluewhale II is a semisubmersible drilling rig also known as a mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU). The Troll platform is a gravity base production platform with a drilling package, it was (or still is) the tallest construction ever built by man. The Prirazlomnaya is a shallow arctic water mobile submersible (sits on the sea bed) drilling rig (another MODU) with limited production capability. The Abgami FPSO is a floating production storage and offloading platform (not a MODU) that produces oil from pre-drilled subsea wells drilled by other mobile offshore drilling units. Its injection lines pump produced water from the wells back into the reservoir to maintain pressure while oil is produced. Perdido is a spar production platform with drilling package. The Olympus is a TLP production platform with a drilling package and tender assisted drilling (TAD). The Hybernia is a gravity based production platform with a dual drilling package. Petronius is a compliant leg production platform with a drilling package. Its claim to be the tallest structure is disputed because it can only remain standing when in water unlike the Troll platform which was built to its height then moved to location before being ballasted down to rest on the sea floor. The Berkut is a gravity base platform set in 35 meters of water depth so although the heaviest it by no means the tallest. It has a drilling package but is usually accompanied by a tender assist drilling rig (TAD). Similar to the Hybernia platform in Canada, the rig has a concrete and steel ice protection structure. Top Fives, try talking to someone who knows about offshore oil production and drilling platforms before you post, it would be far more educational.
@@bitterbob30 Exactly, however, I did like the part where the 'expert' cut to a picture of a jackup to illustrate one of his "massive' oil rigs. I would suspect that the producer has a background in the 'news' industry, where factual 'reporting' is NON-existent.
Did it for years until our helicopter crashed breaking my back and crushing my spinal cord. This was the best job I ever had and I so miss all them crazy guy that I worked with.
I’m on a location on land. We smoke all the time. There is already live flames on location. Heater treaters have flame and flares. Not to mention all the electric motors everywhere that have spark on there brushes...
_"I wonder what will happen to the rigs when the oil below runs out."_ Typically they seal the well & remove the platform. Depending on the location & cost, they may remove the tower too, or let it become a reef. But some are converted to holiday resorts, diving facilities, aquatic research facilities, or museums.
As someone that works in the industry, the vast majority of this video is complete bullstuff. The creator of this video has no clue how the offshore oil and gas industry works nor even as simple as the key terminology.

The Russian platform in the arctic may be big, but it hardly unique. In Alaska, both onshore and offshore, companies have been in the arctic for more than 40 years drilling and producing oil. In fact, a large part of the techniques used to produce oil today were developed there.

BiB nailed it. This video is rubbish for the most part.
*Agbami, not Abgami. I ran a supply boat to that field from Onne, Nigeria.

One of the best, Reputed nd largest oilmajor company in the world. I'm very proud to be a employee of this unique coy as well.
Is that Charlie Sheen doing the narration? Winning!
Some of them are not oil rigs but just some oil platforms, Drilling rigs drill wells and platforms produce after the oil wells are drilled.
You can find many offshore oil rigs off the coast Sarawak, Malaysia 🇲🇾. It have tons offshore oil rigs off of Malaysia in the Southeast Asia. 🇲🇾
PURE DRIVEL! Lots of nice pictures though.
Thanks for the video, Charlie Sheen

This is not an oil rig, it is a production platform.
Thank you for the update, Top Fives..!! I wonder what will happen to the rigs when the oil below runs out.
Probably moved, scrapped, or abandoned depending on what makes the most money, or costs the least. They only care about profit.
