    I built myself a similar setup about 18 months ago, but with a IKEA desk and the Gator frameworks side car. It's been fantastic, and the total price was under $400. I did a video on the desk build and side car build on my channel.

    Oh man, I feel this deeply, Lol. I switched desks this past December, and at first, I really wanted something "pro" like a DangerFox or an Argosy but ultimately ended up going with an Uplift sit-stand desk with that Gator Frameworks sidecar for these exact same reasons. Great setup!

  • @MichaelSheaAudio
    @MichaelSheaAudio Год назад

    I'm the same way. My original "desk" was a square table that I got second hand for $15. Worked just fine for years, but I eventually grew out of it and wanted more desk space. Got a manual crank standing desk with a 43x24 tabletop, and slid a short rolling keyboard stand underneath. The standing desk part was ideal because I could set it to whatever height I needed to get the midi keyboard underneath. Monitoring speakers on stands, 27" monitor on an arm above my laptop, it's clean. Big tables are just the way to go cuz you can make whatever you want out of them.

    This hit home quite a bit Fluff. As a designer and software engineer, I took a similar route - but instead I did a custom build that I'm pretty stoked for. Basically a solid tube steel frame I got from a local fab shop, and a custom butcher -block-style wood top. Obviously a bit more pricey, but it's something that will last indefinitely. Cheers.

    I'm in the process of either hiring a desk build or purchasing a Dangerfox or an equivalent. My current desk is okay, and it holds a lot of gear, but so much of it is below the desktop and that sucks for mixing and mastering. It also has 90 degree angles on the surface which causes it's own problems when recording.

      @@johnbranch17 I 100% agree. Musicians on YT have turned into nothing more than commission brand salesmen and product peddlers. It gets them enough recognition and cash-flow to make music and not drown in the process, but it doesn't make it right/good or healthy.
      It is severely tone-deaf to the current financial world most musicians live in. It's not realistic for most practicing musicians to constantly buy new and overpriced stuff. Content like this basically preys on impressionable people in hopes of driving sales. It puts so much focus on gear acquisition and the idea that "the right gear will solve all my "problems"." It's just like the thousands of videos all over YT of "I make an all new pedalboard" even though its only because they were given or encouraged to use gear that they would have never been able to afford otherwise.
      Oh, well, late stage capitalism needs to commodify every second of our lives possible, so here we are.

You could even have multiple cameras facing whatever you're doing to catch it from multiple angles. Sorry but I still don't get it. The statement you made I mean. I don't care if you wanna buy a new desk to make your workflow easier or whatever but to tell everyone it's because of camera angles is pretty ridiculous. Everyone knows you can rig cameras up a hundred different ways to make a video. Ok exaggerating on 100 but you get the point.
