Used to live on Melrose ave in 1952. Started to school at E. Linden elementary. ( was on Perdue ave I believe) Mrs. Beers was my teacher. Melrose ended at a corn field. Just across the corn field was Bridgeview golf course. My dad used to hit golf balls from our front yard to the course. Also lived on Loretta and went to Mcguffey elementary. Used to be a lumber yard in the area which burnt down . ( on Hudson St. ?? ) Anyone remember that? Also carried mail at Oakland Park in 1983.
The Short North is one of my favorite areas in the city! I have already planning on moving to Columbus because in my heart this is the place to start over! Thank you for the documentaries!
Lived in Columbus for about 10 years. The Short North was always my favorite area of the city. From my involvement with the Rocky Horror cast there, I have attended many Gallery Hops and marched in many Doo Dah Parades. That's me at 51:44 mark. I still watch this video on occasion to bring back the memories.
I grew up on the corner of Starr & Dennison and attended Sacred Heart Church and School. I was part of the last graduation class, 50 years ago this year.
I grew Up living in a home located on Norwich Ave & Pearl Alley ! Spent my Childhood rding my bike down High Street as far as 5th ave. Spent many hours on the OSU Campus where I delived the Lantern Newspaper. I later worked at a Bank in Downtown Columbus and spent many hours in the Short North ! My oldest sister from Chicago visited us and I picked her up at Union Station, just days before they began tearing it down. I now live in Germantown, TN and miss Columbus except during the Winter.
Fantastic film! This is MY Neighborhood! I go to Goodale park every day, Live in the Victorian Village, am on the Short North Block watch and attend (And Volunteer) at Comfest every year! This was a very well thought out, and beautiful film! I loved it and am "Liking" the film! And guess what? I saw me for like a half of a nano-second! And I glimpsed my next door neighbors house too! YAY!!
I grew up in Columbus and worked downtown before the Nationwide Plaza complex was started, which was the anchor for the downtown and near-downtown redevelopment in the late 1970's. At that time, the Short North area was largely inhabited with low income blue-collar workers and people on government assistance. A house raffle was instituted, where for a few dollars, one could participate in the raffle and possibly win a home. The deal was, I believe, that you had to occupy the home for a minimun of six years and make reasonable improvements. At the time, I would have never believed that the area would amount to anything, so I passed on that. The homes near Goodale Park were the only homes in that area that were desirable at the time. I should have gone for that house lottery . . . .

this is a good series, I just wish they talked more about the street aspect of some of these neighborhoods. They didn't mention the short north posse or how crime has been a big part of places like franklinton, hilltop and the south side. This series is more like a documentary for old rich white folks.

With the exception of a few nice neighborhoods such as Bexley, Upper Arlington, Grandview, German Village, and Clintonville, Columbus is one big slum with no sense of history.
As a Columbus native, these videos from WOSU are some of the best things I have found on the internet. Thank you guys for putting these together

Being a former person who used to reside in Columbus this video is fantastic.

The short North is still ,,always was one of the most dangerous places in the entire city..

Do you know why it was called Fly Town?
Did the Doo Dah parade get postponed to Christmas this year?
This is 10 years old and it already feels totally dated. The Short North is not what I remember it was when I lived there in 2002.
same here, greed ruined the area imho
where da short north posse at tho

it's not about old rich white folks.. it's about pride in one's neighborhood... old rich white folks are where the money comes from, don't forget that
@@kerryincolumbus lmao😂😂😂. What a racist piece of shit smh.
While crime continues to be an issue in the neighborhood, that would be an entirely different video
I'm from the Neighborhood #43201 #weinland #Park 4st 8Ave 7Ave indianola chittenden 5St 6st 11Ave Grant Park 5AVE, Columbus Ohio #71North
no - the italians made - tomato sauce with dried tomatoes - sun dried tomatoes. flytown was not unique in that respect.
People should respect elders more
Oh my word that coconut oil can be used for soap :) and laundry soap oh my word 😅
hmmmmm...
As artificial as a plastic christmas tree
Man this is interesting but production-wise, you've packed this thing with way too many misplaced modern songs.

short north was fine until the snobs moved in-now you have a hipster disneyland
Very good episode of a very interesting series, but MY GOD, the stupid stupid lame music!! PUHLEEZE
I was looking for a comment like this. I agree, they leaned way too hard into pretty terrible music.

The Shit North is more accurate
