  • In this video, I will show full preservation of the German Helmet M42 size 64 from the World War II. This helmet has been in the ground for 80 years. As a result of the restoration, the original paint and the color of the helmet were preserved.
    No propaganda and extremism. Only history!
    The demonstration of Nazi symbols in my videos is not propaganda of fascism, Nazism, etc. They are demonstrated exclusively for historical and scientific purposes.

    I don’t know about you, but in Russia we call it not Restoration, but Conservation. Restoration is the return of the original appearance. Conservation is protection from destruction in its existing form.

      Right. And very few had an insignia, so I have doubts about the authenticity of it, especially given the condition of the shell. The German decals were not that resistant

      @@laurentdevaux5617 You think it could be an SS issued helmet because of the insignia?

    • @laurentdevaux5617
      @laurentdevaux5617 10 месяцев назад

      @@DaidoujiGaming No, here this is a shell wearing the standard eagle of the Heer (land forces). Some M42 indeed had SS insignia, but it was applied on the right side (if it has been applied on the left side, it's a helmet for foreign volunteers, extremely rare and very unlikely on a M42). Anyway, as I already told it, a M42 wil never have an eagle and a tricolor shield (suppressed in 1940), and I still have a doubt about this one. First, because M42 had insignia just for a few months (but why not, it's still possible to find one), and second, most important, the German helmet decal isn't that strong ; given the deep pitting of the shell, I think quite strange the insignia could still be so well preserved. I had a M40 with an insignia, well worn but not rusted and complete, and its insignia wasn't that good... don't forget it's only a decal. The only exception I know where you can have a deeply oxydized shell with an insignia still well preserved is the Chinese M35, as the insignia was painted, making it much stronger. I had one, found in a very rusted condition, but I managed to recover nearly half of the paint and nearly 90% of the insignia. I even saw one so badly pitted that it had holes, but you coud still see a part of the insignia ! The problem being that most of the Chinese M35, extremely rare, you can find now are fakes. But that's another story !

    Oxalic acid can make miracles on rusted shells if well used. I salvaged a Chinese M1935 like that and managed to recover nearly 90% of the original insignia and some of 35% of the original feldgrau, a chance when you know the rarity of a Chinese German made helmet. But it was only possible because the shell I found wasn't as bad as this one and because the Chinese insignia was painted, not a decal, making it much more resistant. That's why I have quite a doubt about the authenticity of this helmet's insignia, given the poor condition of the shell

    You might have gotten better results using a rust converter instead of wax for your final step. Rust converters would change the rust to iron oxide, which is black and would also protect against further rusting. It also looks better than leaving the reddish rust under the wax. I really like what you did to preserve the decal, though.

      If you ever find a M42 with two insignias, than it's a fake. They only had the eagle, and for a very short period of time. And to be frank, I have doubts about this one given the really bad condition of the shell...
