When I was little, my mom would not allow me leave the table until I ate all rice on my plate. Mom would tell that farmers had to woke very early and work very hard to grow rice and I must appreciate them by eating what was in my plate.

I am from Philippines, my parents will tell us same way. To always clean our plate, not to leave even a single grain or raise of corn grits because a farmer had to work so hard to get it to our plate eventhough we plant our own corn. :) i teach my son same thing. To value what we have.
