To unlock gourmand and artificer you can just beat either survivor or monk, and to unlock rivulet and spearmaster you just need to beat either gourmand or artificer. No hunter needed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’m a pretty experienced Rain World player, having played the game for almost 100 hours with no sign of stopping, and I found it hilarious how many inaccuracies there were. I do not mean this in a “Oh, how stupid you are for not knowing everything about the game,” but rather a “The fact that this game’s lore and mechanics are so deep that you probably won’t know the start of it without watching half your hours worth of RUclips content is crazy,” way. This game is just incredible(y difficult!).
haha! I got 200hrs and I'm still pretty sure I've missed plenty of things(even though watching hours and hours of content after finishing the game) such a masterpiece, really one of a kind and my favorite game for its outer world experience.

The truth is that no one person can even know everything about a more specific topic, such as lore, game mechanics, the AI, movement tech, and so on. Fun fact 1: killing Looks-To-The-Moon is the worst crime you could commit in this game. Fun fact 2: completing all the DLC campaigns (especially rivulet and saint) will give you existential crysis if you at least slightly know the lore. And knowing the lore more than slightly will straight out make you question your life. So yeah, you definitely should give it a try. Good luck, have fun, and don't touch the rot.

Fun fact: The robots around the LTTM are her neurons, you ate her brain. I believe the guardians did not let you pass because animals have karma as well and your worm did not have 10 karma.
Funny fact, the guards kill any creature with a lack of karma. and the grappling hook is also alive. And they could have tried to kill you just because you were holding it in your hands.
While others have mentioned the thing about the hunter not being the requirement for the other slugcats, I haven't seen it mentioned that the reason for Downpour's options in the remix menu is that it was all previously mods! The devs hired some of the popular modders to make an official dlc. Otherwise, its always cool to see people's first routes in this game are.

Beating hunter is purely optional. Also, that robot you mercilessly murdered is my girl moon and one getting the mark of communication from pebbles you can actually speak to her (provided you didn't eat all of the braincells prior)

Monk actually has *less breath capacity* than Survivor hence will drown faster :D (Monk is also worse at throwing spears (less damage and range), is lighter and therefore more easily killed by worm grass and spider swarms, and they have a worse version of Unfortunate Development.)
I feel this kind of review of the game really skips over some of the environmental storytelling and moods set through the playthrough of the game, but it was still a humorous watch. I am glad you gave the game a try, happy to have you join the ranks

300 hours in the game and i just need to do all possible expeditions and challenges to finish the game completely. And it doesn't take 100 hours to find out that you jump and leap farther if you throw something like a rock or spear when you jump to give you a boost in distance
Fun fact: killing scavengers ruins your reputation, then they eventually seek you out to kill you, so stay peaceful with them and they’ll stay peaceful with you aswell

I actually didn't have a huge problem with 5 pebbles. I screwed myself a bit because I spent an hour trying to go through unfortunate development before I found out the end of it was blocked off but overall the low gravity didn't seem too bad to me

Yeah that's not the exit, in fact it's kinda the main entrance to Unfortunate Development for Survivor since it feels like the obvious way to go, there's a shelter there, and it lets you skip the lower half of Unfortunate Development. ;-) In fact its effectiveness at guiding new players to Unfortunate Development and keeping them there (by providing a shelter) is probably exactly why they closed it off to Monk. By removing the obvious way to go when you go through up from the first shelter it should make it very likely that the player will discover the way to the left side of Five Pebbles.
I will just say that the Saint's ending will worth all the struggle. I mean it. Now that you've completed the base game, I think you should watch some lore videos, preferable some old ones when Downpour wasn't released, tho avoid spoilers.
Try doing all this while keeping 2 slugpups alive 😂😂 actually the most stressful experience of my life and I haven't even passed chimny 😂😂 also when you swim wiggle the stick in time with slugcat in the direction you're going. You actually have fish speed 😉🤫
