Stevie sings with such passion, force, lyrical majesty. You feel the earth shift under your feet and the godhood within you stir and attempt to leap out of your body.
The version on ''Say You Will'' is so different. That's why on youtube you always see ''Smile at You'' ANGRY VERSION!! LOL! Because she just rips it. She is so pissed. Just listen to THIS vocal just incredible!!

Pissing off Our White Witch is a good way to find yourself on a Lilly pad wondering why you have a craving for flies..... SEMPER STEVIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think instead of turning him a frog she just willed buckingham to get uglier and uglier and uglier, and even more wizened and bitter and wow has it ever worked, while she grows more lovely and gracious with age - same can be said for Henley and Walsh too come to think of it and Iovine too, hmm I see a pattern here...
Stevie is a woman who had to retune her voice. In the early days, she was known for blowing her voice out on tour. Then as she got older, she learned more about how to conserve it and use it… and she gave us hard core like this as a result. This is POWER! ❤
No WOMAN CAN SING LIKE STEVIE NICKS, MOST ESPECIALLY IN HER MID YEARS I GUESS, BUT SHE IS AWESOME, AND I JUST ADORE HER, SHE LIVES IN MY HEART, SHE SANG TO ME MOST MY LIFE FOR WE ARE SISTERS OF THE MOON...
I'm believe this song is about Lindsey and Carol Ann Harris. It was written in the Tusk era. In the angry version, from the Mirage era, Stevie added the lines "Well, you never saw the change...That woman's softness..." Lindsey's brother has also mentioned a change in Carol Ann's softness. The cause for that change is debatable.
In Smile at you Angry Stevie 's ooo"s & ya's ROCK.My heart was broken when he left me for another . So don't ask me why that love was stolen cuz my heart. My heart was broken my heart has mended ever since but still remains ANGRY. STEVIE is the true Queen of Rock &Roll.
This reminds me of the anger she had in the song "Fall From Grace" which is my favorite song on Trouble in Shangri La. Alanis Morisette had "similar" anger in you oughta know. PEACE RICKY PARKER.
I saw Stevie Nicks the 1st time when I was 11 and The announcer said " Come on and welcome Stevie Nicks!" I burst into tears and cried the entire time! My body was just too full of emotion and it had to come out in some way. I have seen her everytime she has come to Dallas with or without Fleetwood Mac , even with Tom Petty. I'm 44 now and my reaction is still to cry! It's a little more reserved but still crying! Stevie's energy is simply overwhelming to my spirit. It's always amazing to me to be at the concert and look across the room and see someone else crying and you just look at each other and nod knowing what they are thinking and feeling without any words. So I hope one day when I am there crying I look across the room and see you my fellow Sister of the Moon.🌙
I saw Fleetwood Mac back in March and I cried during Rhiannon when she starts the “take me like the wind” section at the end, so beautiful and powerful

Awesome. Much better than the Say You Will version. After listening to many demos, I think it's best to just let Stevie go at it! That seems to get great results.
Funny, everyone sees things differently. I actually prefer the Say You Will version - has Lindsay's great production and multi-layered vocals. This one sounds very much like a demo and almost as if she's trying too hard. Either way, a great tune.
My favorite version of this song!!! You know it's a great song just because of the many album versions but this one the so called angry version is by far the best! P.s. if this is Stevie angry she can be mad at me anytime. 🥰
I'm not a big Lindsey fan but the guitar here is absolutely sinister and awesome!! The bass is to killer too. I love the part where Stevie hells "OOOOHHHHH and then half laughs right in the middle. Yeah Henley "Fly to (one) of your castle's in the sky"!!!! This song is a piece d' resistance!! UNFUCKINGREAL!!!!
Jimmy Iovine once said to Stevie, whether u like it or not Lindsey Buckingham has always been your best producer. His guitar and her voice make magic. He was highly critical of her work, and helped make her songs better. This is a big contention between them, he so often doesn't get the credit he deserves.
@@oceangrovegirl2718I wouldn’t say Lindsey was her best producer, her first four solo albums were absolutely amazing and didn’t have Lindsey on them that much if at all.
Just finished listening to the Say you will version (hadn’t heard it for a while) and came back to listen to this again. This is the better version and it’s totally due to Stevie’s raw ass vocal. Channeling Janis here definitely!

This is actually unfinished ..definitely the best vocals out of ALL the versions ..and Lindsey shredding the guitar, too! The bass is just not there yet. If it had more of John except here and there, it would be great. I still don't know why they didn't put this one on the deluxe of Mirage...even if they had to add in some new bass lol
Woah ..... i was expecting to hear the Say You Will version but after listening to this i now get why it's called the "angry version". The 2003 album version was very much polished up & altered a lot.
God where can we find all these old songs are any of them on a album ..keep hearing all these awesome songs they done new to my ears just love it so much.
This song dates back to the "Tusk" sessions in 1979 but they never did a full band recording of it until the release of the "Say You Will" album in 2003
Okay this angry version is better than than released version! When was this recorded ? Damn this should be heard by all! That’s Rock ‘n’ roll passionate Stevie!!!! ❤️
Supposedly, this version/outtake was recorded in between 1978 and 1982. Consequently, it's an absolute tragedy that the "angry versions" didn't grace either Tusk or Mirage...BOTH albums would have greatly benefited from its inclusion.
Definitely about Lindsey and Carol Ann. “What you did not need was a lady who was stronger, you needed someone to depend on you.” Stevie was a powerhouse who liked to lead, Carol Ann was a little mouse who clung to Lindsey like a handbag. Plus Stevie said in an interview around the time Mirage was being made that she’d recorded this track for that album, but Lindsey suggested she go with another song. Stevie agreed with him, saying Smile At You is quite bitter and they weren’t in the same place anymore.
muffin6369 Actually Muff, we’re both wrong. I recently found out that she put this song forward for consideration to go on the Rumours album while they were recording in Sausalito (so like Feb 76). Lindsey and her broke up at that time, and Stevie was with Don for a year thereafter, so it’s pretty safe to assume this has nothing to do with Henley. Stevie tried the song out with the band but Lindsey wasn’t into it (especially after he heard their old bass player from the Buckingham Nicks era helped her co-write it). It was likely about Lindsey and the girl he was seeing during their on-off period before they broke up for good. I think her name was Christina? Ken Caillat confirms all of this, and I choose to believe him over hearsay from fans... In that interview she specifically says “we aren’t in that same place anymore.” Why would she talk about Lindsey wanting to do another song for Mirage, say she agrees with him, and in the same breath say “we’re not in the same angry place” about Don? Makes no sense to me. I believe it’s on the Buckingham Nicks website if you want to go listen. Regardless of which woman Stevie’s talking about in her song, I can pretty confidently assume it has nothing to do with Don Henley. But honestly I’m just glad she was angry enough at SOMEBODY to write this in the first place because it’s beautiful and I love how furious the lyrics are.
@@timothykerr3450 Not really, the Peter Greene era Mac was quite popular in the Blues genera. They were looking for a new guitarist, and was impressed by Lindsay. Stevie was dating him at the time, and they were a package deal.

I read somewhere (i don't remember where) that this was written after Stevie walked in on Don Henley while he was with someone else (rumour has it that it was Cher's little sister). I don't know if any of this is true but they led so wild lives back then that anything goes I guess.
They should have put this perfect 'angry version' of 'Smile at You!' on the album, rather then put a soft, gentle version (this is a rock song NOT a love song) it's a broken heart /pissed off to the world song . They did to this song (keeping it off album) like they softened 'Journey's Live in Houston 1981 version of Steve Perry's 'Wheel in the Sky' , making rock songs soft & sweet, they are not supposed to be that way....
OMG what emotion!!! Was this recorded for the Rumours album? I assume this was directed at Lindsey. And it was during the Rumours sessions that she was in that place of angry and sad,,,, at the loss of their relationship. This was AMAZING! Un effing real!
Henley!!She caught him in the act with Cher's sister. Hence ''Leave the key here'' and several other references....''Go to your castle in the ski''. HENLEY!! The other Eagles referred to Henley with regards to women as ''Love ém and Lear ém. Because of his penchant for hiring Lear jets to impress them. He did it for Stevie...a little cranberry red Lear to take her to Atlanta to be with him. Sigh!
I've always heard this was about Henley. I guess, between the "on the side" act w/ the other girl and Stevie's problematic pregnancy (the rumor has been that the fetus was weak, and might be defective, which contributed to the termination of it), Stephanie was in a bad, dark, sad place. She has gone on record saying that that relationship w/ Don, coming right off the heels of leaving Lindsey, was even more of a disaster...as much as she cared for him.
@@anthonyyoutubefan7567 Basically it went like this Lindsey, Henley, Mick, Paul Fishkin others and then Joe Walsh from 1983 - 1986 then thankfully rehab. As I said this song was about Stevie catching Henley and Cher's sister Georgeanne La Pierre ''in the act''. You can research and also see Henley and Georgeanne together for awhile after all this. Anyone who says this is about Lindsey is wrong. Lindsey left this of Mirage because he thought it was too angry and didn't fit and there were other songs of hers left off NOT just this one.
Oh, yeah..."If You Were My Love" was a huge loss on the LP. Thankfully, We've got that truly classic, rocking outtake on the deluxe edition of Mirage. Since hearing leaked versions of that outtake, over a decade ago, I know that, had that been released in Summer/Fall of 1982, it would have gone to #2 on the charts, and may have even given Stevie and FM a second #1 single. Imagine how Lindsey would have felt about that! Talk about a double-edged sword! That '82 extended arrangement, to me, was the best version; though, I know Stevie preferred a more delicate, mournful one in 2014's official version.
@@anthonyyoutubefan7567 Have you seen the clip of her Rolling Stone photo shoot with Anne Leibowitz where she is dancing to ''If You Were my Love'' and OMG you can see her grinding her teeth she's so loaded. Check it out. I love that song and yes I like the more rocker version. And of course the biggest blunder of all of songs left off an album ''Silver Springs''. Then of course Mick had to be a dick about it when she wanted it for Timespace plus the rights were given to her mother.
Now this is the true version of the song. The vocals were perfect. Should never have been vanillafied!!! 🖤🖤🖤

Without even hearing the other versions, this just sounds so natural. How its supposed to be. Fucking astonishing. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💕💕💕💕
This is absolutely amazing!
OMG what emotion!!! Was this recorded for the Rumours album? I assume this was directed at Lindsey. And it was during the Rumours sessions that she was in that place of angry and sad,,,, at the loss of their relationship. This was AMAZING! Un effing real!
I absolutely love this song!
14 year old me was shook

The genius of this beaitiful being floors me over and over.
Our Generations " I knew you were trouble."
Lindsay must have pissed her off big time.
Then of course Mick had to be a dick about it when she wanted it for Timespace plus the rights were given to her mother.
damn this kicks so much ass
An example of Lindsey getting it wrong. They should have never have messed with this version.
