I love the part where he says,"This is Daniel Johnston speaking from a mental hospital. They tell me I'm crazy here, because I love the Mountain Dew so much! I can't get enough of the Mountain Dew!" The way he said the last part was so hilarious! I love Daniel Johnston. I love Mountain Dew also...
Even with newer medications, bipolar disorder is extraordinarily difficult to treat. You can't fault someone for trying to self-medicate when the available treatments were not only ineffective, but came with some scary side effects (Brian Wilson suffers from severe permanent dyskinesia as result of being put on older psychiatric medications).
Many pubmed studies about Bipolar and a deficiency of phosolipids - lack of certain fats, acetyl l choline. Yes the oldest is lithium but the pharmaceutical grade is very toxic and requires blood tests. Take lithium orotate as it has the ability to cross the blood brain barrier so much less of a toxic dose. Keto diet and cutting back on high sugars like Mountain Dew that burn up more nutritional resources like vitamin B1 and B3 to process. Orthomolecular Medicine. Class 3 antipsychotics are what destroyed Daniel Johnston giving him tardes dykensia those violent shakes and overweight high blood pressure and high prolactin etc
So the jingle is actually an old Christian hymn called “Love Lifted Me” and Daniel rewrote the lyrics to make it about Mountain Dew. Even still, this kinda does make me want some Dew, R.I.P. Mr. Johnston
My GOD! Daniel, this really does hurt, we didn’t not deserve to have a genuine, true and inspirational artist. I can say this, from all of your fans around the world, we miss you already 💔💔
I can almost guarantee that if they made a similar video, and had this as the theme song, it would skyrocket sales. Its so intreguing, catchy and haunting. It draws you in and stays on your mind.
If I'm going to drink soda I often opt for Coke or ginger ale. Tonight I was walking home and I was really thirsty so I stopped by a corner store to get something to drink. I perused the selections and for whatever reason decided to switch it up. I don't even really like Mountain Dew but I got 2 tall cans for $4. When I got home I started listening to music on RUclips and a comment on a video (unrelated to Daniel Johnston) mentioned Daniel. I probably haven't thought about Daniel Johnston or listened to his music since 2007 when a couple of friends showed me his music and artwork in high school. So I decided to check out his stuff again. After listening to a couple of his songs I ended up on this song. Right at the end of the song at 1:15 where it shows 2 selections for Mountain Dew on the machine it dawned on me what I was drinking. I instantly got goosebumps all over my body. One can for me, one can for Daniel.
RIP Daniel. You were too good and too talented for this world, we didn’t deserve you but are so thankful for the time we had with you. I’ll always think of you when I ask someone Hi, how are you?
People use many words that garble up the message and are unnecessary. The use of the word “like” to begin a sentence. “Just” is another one that gets used too much. If you aren’t referring to an abstract concept, then the word “literally” becomes redundant. E.G.- “I literally picked up the phone and called my grandma.” It makes sense, yet it has redundant wording.
@Steve G I hear you as far as the rampant misuse of the word "literally" goes... it's probably my biggest pet peeve when if comes to misused words. However, in Sloppy Doodles defense, this wasn't an egregious misuse assuming that she actually did buy Mountain Dew to drink while listening to this song, in which case she literally did that. There's just no real reason to use "literally" since there's no figurative sense to differentiate it from. I get that. But at least she didn't say something like, "I literally die laughing every time I listen to this."
"Look, Danny baby. We love the part about enjoying mountain dew. That part was perfect. Right on the money... We just aren't that keen on announcing that mountain dew is the beverage of choice for demons. Yes, it's true that demons love our soda, but we're really trying to expand our product to be more appealing to the average human customer. Some people just aren't going to buy a product that they think might put them in league with demons." - Owner boss of mountain dew

A lot of people think is one the funniest things from Daniel. But the fact that he’s coming from a mental hospital that makes me sad. But the Mountain Dew song is amazing.
Daniel Johnston’s physical health problems were a sad reminder of what can happen to you if you spend your life guzzling down vast quantities of sugary drinks.
I hear that the mental hospitals are realy bad in america, good thing that over hear in the UK we still got the NHS, they may have seen better days but at least they are kind to you.
@jeffymon420 I understand. When people consider him a musical genious, i think theyre looking at his song writing skills more then anything, he can spit them out so easily. i for example, every time i listen to him, i have to stop what im doing and write a song, he makes it seem so easy, hes so unafraid to be judged, he just goes, he just does. i find it wonderful and creativly inspiring, fuel on the musical fire, i know where youre coming from though
I didn't say that I believed it, I said that I was wondering. I don't think that it is "ignorant" to simply observe what is before me. Blues men went to the crossroads to make deals with Papa Legba. The Beatles and Black Sabbath made homages to Aleister Crowley. And yes, modern musicians often make veiled references to dealing with the devil. I'm not asserting anything, because I am not privvy to the facts of the phenomena, I am merely taking notes on what is visible to me.
"I sent that off to the Pepsi corporation but unfortunately never got a response." Perhaps because it's obvious Daniel Johnston was completely off his rocker barmy raving delusional & utterly bonkers.
Well I had a friend with a similar problem. He was a schizoid manic depressive, but he'd been smoking pot since he was thirteen. It only manifested when he was nineteen. I'd say that the pot had nothing to do with it, and it was instead, the pills he'd been popping and the salvia he'd been smoking.
RIP a legend, just poured a Dew out for my boy. Pepsi should really include this in an ad to honor this man.
