Most South Africans make this error of explaining Kota/Sphatlo as bunny chow and the two are not the same.
Bunny chow is usually a half a bread hollowed in the middle and filled with curry or stew.
Kota or Sphatlo is a quarter of a loaf of bread, hollowed and filled with chips, atchaar, polony, eggs, vienna, russian, etc.
A russian is a sausage for those who don't know.
